This was a truly disappointing and frustrating experience. With the reputation Olshan has (Nolan Ryan and all) I expected a totally different experience, particularly since a friend in Katy, TX had a very positive experience (a number of years ago). Instead we got a job filled with incompetence and lack of urgency on the part of the company. This job was supposed to be a two week job (barring any weather issues) to remove old plumbing from under the house and replace with new plumbing in trenches alongside the house. Work began on August 25. The initial tunnel and trench diggers came and worked hard and got the area ready. Looked like the project was slightly ahead of schedule. Then the trouble began. The first plumber to work the area did a bad job and the job didn’t pass city inspection. Four (4) items were red-tagged. That was on September 3rd. The second plumber sent to fix the work quit after a day. When that piece of work was completed (by the original plumber), city inspection failed again. Finally, the third plumber (and only plumber left!!), who was on another job somewhere else and couldn’t come until the following week, showed up and finished the project. He was good – his name is Juan. Finally the inspection passed. It took until September 24th to get the plumbing fixed and to pass inspection. Four weeks!! There was no sense of urgency on the part of Olshan to get this job done. While we did have some rain delays, these occurred AFTER the initial city inspection and do NOT account for the four week delay. Had the job been done correctly from the start, it would never have had the added complication of some rainy days.
To add insult to injury, once the plumbing work was finally completed, the company took another two weeks to “finish the job” - close up the tunnels and trenches, repair the concrete and fix the landscaping. They were obviously short-handed, although never proactively explained that – only kept us waiting for days until people could finally come out and get the job done. And once they came, we had to watch closely to ensure the job was done well – it seemed like they were either trying to cut corners in completing the work or did not have prior experience. (Examples: had to show workers how to properly tie replacement rebar to existing concrete, landscape stone replacement as original.)
The final blow was when the project manager said that the company would not replace the grass which had died during the 6 week project, even though at the start of the project they said they “would put everything back as they had originally found it”. After confronting them, they did agree to pay for the replacement sod and provided labor to install it.
In summary, poor performance, poor customer service, an overall really bad experience. We asked the company for a discounted price given all the issues and poor performance, but they refused. This is just another example of really poor customer service. A small discount would have gone a long way. In the end we, of course, paid in full and gladly post this review on Angie’s list for others to see.
