They came out to service the air conditioning, the coil was broken, and it was still under warranty. They kept refilling the freon, which kept leaking. We finally forned them to look harder and they determined the problem. It still cost us almost $1,000 in labor.

They are really good. The solution they gave us was really good. The side of our house having the bedroom and dining room wasn?t getting enough air, so it was always hotter or always colder. All the people who came to look at it recommended a lot of duct work, but he suggested another option which didn?t involve lot of duct work. That was what they did. They also redid the air intakes in our bedroom. They put one in the ceiling instead of on the wall. The guy who did that was an absolute craftsman at what he did. His work was excellent and it was so clean. He really took pride in what he did. They sent another guy to remove some thermostat. They re-patched and did the wall pieces that were damaged. They were perfect. They really take pride in their work. They hire, train and retain people who are the same way.

My air bill had gotten up to $700 a month. They told me I could either redo the whole system for $20,000 or spend $5000 and put new units outside and that ought to do the trick and it did. The highest my bill got to was $400. So then I started using them. They are my HVAC guys for life. The guy spent an extra half hour in the attic poking around trying to figure out where a leak over the garage was coming from. He found something unhinged and fixed that for me. The heat worked very well this winter, I don't know what he did up there. He did something no one had done before.

The technician arrived on time and I knew the price of the visit before hand. He took at look my thermostats and asked about my problems. He worked rather quickly and he came out to tell me what was wrong. He then gave me a ballpark estimate for replacement parts to fix it. It was $1000 for parts. Afterwards he went back in to mess with the equipment (it was dampener problems). He found some lose wires, messed with it and let me know that is fixed it. He labeled everything in the attic, showed me what he did in case I needed to try to tighten the loose cable if it happens again(the controller was rusty and it didn't have good wire contact). By doing this he saved me a $1000, or at least for a while. I asked him some other questions, he was very honest about it. I asked about replacement thermostats, but instead he helped me understand my own better so I didn't need replacements. He could have just sold me on some expensive thermostats, but he didn't. Overall very helpful, on time, not to bad on the time required and very reasonable on the price(especially the yearly service contract, which I recommend). Don't know if you could find cheaper, but it is worth the money to find an honest company that does good work.
Description of Work: They performed a heating inspection and I signed up for their Energy Service agreement.

I will state that throughout this ordeal, the staff and techs were always polite and quick to respond. I also have not had to pay for any service fees and was not asked to pay for the difference in cost (if there was any) of the heating unit. In my opinion, Lee Thompson needs to invest in training there staff on the products they sell and repair. They also need to make sure that the installers completely check the unit and go through the proper system checks. The installation manual has a set of checks and based on my knowledge, there was no way the system was put through all the checks when it was installed. If they would have correctly configured the two-stage unit when installed, there is certainly a chance my unit would have been running more efficiently during the summer and saved me additional money on my utility bill! Additionally, a control should have been in place that verified the correct heating unit was installed with the air handler. These are ALL Lennox units and were purchased and installed at the same time.
Description of Work: 5/11/2010 I purchased a new Lennox #XC21 A/C Two Stage, Air Handler and Heat Strip installed. According to the Lennox site, the XC21 "most quiet and EFFICIENT central air conditioner you can by" I selected the Lee Thompson company based on their 2009 Super Service Award from Angie's List and NATE certified technicians. 11/04/2010 Everything was great until November when I tried to turn on the heat and it did not work. I called the company and they promptly sent a tech out to fix my system. Having purchased the system from Lee Thompson I would have assumed the tech new all about my system but he was not even sure if it was two stage. What I thought was going to be a quick fix turned into 3+ hours because it is a new hi tech system. At the end of the day the heat was working and learned from the tech that my system WAS NOT CONFIGURED PROPERLY TO WORK WITH THE 2 STAGE COMPRESSOR. Glad I found this out after the HOT summer - my utility bills might have been lower! So much for trained installers - they must have not run the system through the series of checks to ensure it was setup correctly. 11/05/2010 Called and spoke to Scott Thompson about the installation issue and requested a tech that had experience/knowledge with the Lennox system I purchased be sent out to verify that it was configured correctly. Scott sent out a tech that had a similar unit installed in his house and spent ~2 hours checking and configuring the system. I really appreciated this and the system was again working great. 12/26/2010 Returned home from out of town to discover that my heat was not working again. 12/27/2010 Called Lee Thompson's on Monday 12/27 and requested tech that had configured the system to come out. The company sent him the same day and he worked for several hours trying to determine what the issue was. At the same time I decided to try to research the issue on the internet because I was becoming worried I would not have heat for another night. The tech thought that the heat was not working due to several pieces being bad and was going to pick up the pieces and come back tomorrow. Another night without heat. After he had left, I found a post online that indicated that the heating unit that was installed was not compatible with my unit and needed another model number. I called Lee Thompson's and requested that the tech please call me back. I talked to the tech and he was able to confirm that indeed the wrong unit was installed. I feel Lennox is partially responsible for this because the installation manuals are not clear (yes, I have read them). If I had not invested so many hours in getting this system working properly, I would have probably called and had them take it all out. 12/28/2010 The tech came back to replace the non-compatible heat unit with the new heating unit. Unfortunately, after another few hours, the heat was not coming on. After he exhaustively checked all the parts, the only part that he felt could be the issue was the circuit board. The tech called the parts company to verify they had it but they did not. The nearest one was in Iowa. I give credit to the tech for insisting that it needed to be sent overnight because I had already been without heat for 2 nights since my initial call. 12/29/2010 The tech came out with the new board and within a few minutes had it installed. While it might be hard to pinpoint why the circuit board was bad - this could have been caused by the incompatibility of the initial heating unit. Finally, after so many hours and trips, the unit was working again. I asked the tech to please inform everyone about the incompatibility so that another customer would not experience this. 12/30/2010 Received an envelope from Lee Thompson to sign up for an Energy Saving Agreement and Precision Tune-up and Professional Cleaning. What I really was expecting in the envelope was a letter from the owner of the company (Scott) apologizing for all these issues. Not only did I miss work, but I had taken vacation days on 12/27 and 12/28 which ended up being spent without heat and waiting while the tech did his best to get the issue fixed.

The representative who gave me the estimate, Chuck Ward, was very thorough and I had the impression he was very knowledgeable and interested in doing the job well and delivering on any promises. I left my key for workmen who were performing the job when Ieft for work that morning. When I got home, everything this was done well, as promised- very timely and professional. All seemed fine until I was advised there would be a charge for an estimate when they advertise free estimates.
Description of Work: Misleading. In The Lee Thompson Co.details section in Angie's List, it reads: "Free Estimates 'Yes.'" On calling, I spoke with Stella who informed me there would be an estimate charge of over $100 (I recollect she said $124 but can't be sure exactly). I told her that is not what Angie's List says. She said the free charge was for something else. Misleading. Very disappointed.

He arrived promptly and said the leak wasn't caused by the a/c, but that I did need the drain cleaned out and a shut off valve put in ($140). He checked the outside unit and said the dual capacitor was "about to fail", but I should still replace it (another $130). He also suggested the twice a year check up, which I bought. I didn't add a shut off. Afterwards after researching on the internet, I probably didn't have to change the dual capacitor unless it was bulging. I think he sold me a "bunch of goods". I didn't have a good feeling about it. We'll see what happens when the winter check up comes around - if he's offering another $300+ of services, I'll shut it down with 'em and find someone else from Angie's list.
Description of Work: I had a leak on the ceiling, and I thought it was the a/c overflow pan. He said it wasn't but the drain needed to be cleaned out, I needed some kind of shut off valve to it and also a dual capacitor cell replacement on the outside unit. Plus need to change the breaker outside.

Chuck was responsive and informative. Once we decided to proceed with the project, the crew was timely and efficient. Their work was superb. We love our new system and our house is comfortable throughout.
Description of Work: Chuck Ward, who clearly has years of experience, did a thorough examination of our heating and air conditioning systems to determine why we had major disparities in temperature in the different rooms of our house. He diagnosed the problem and came up with a comprehensive solution, which included placing dampers on the ducts, reconfiguring our A/C units, and installing a new two-stage furnace. Chuck offered several options to give us less expensive possibilities. We opted for the most complete renovation of our system and will receive a $1500 tax credit for reducing our carbon footprint.

We have an old house with an old heater that was non-operational. We had a guy come out that was recommended by a coworker, and he took a cursory look at the unit and told us that it was time for a new heater to the tune of $4500. I was skeptical of his quick diagnosis, so I checked Angie's list and found Thompson Lee. They came out the same day, and our technician, Geoff, had the heater running strong in 20 minutes. He pointed out that the previous guy had not even properly inspected our unit. Going with the best in town saved us a ton of money. Thanks.

We had leaking and uninsulated original (~50 yrs old) metal ducts in our home that needed to be replaced. Of the bids we received on the project, the Lee Thompson Company's quote was the best and Chuck spent a good deal of time walking me through the design and our options on the project. Overall, we thought the techs and Chuck did a great job on the ductwork replacement and went out of their way to do things correctly. Customer service was great as well. We also had them perform some other mechanical repairs outside of the original scope (not reflected in the price above) while they were there. On one repair, the Company worked with the furnace manufacturer to get a free replacement for our malfunctioning circuit board (since it was only a few years old) even though they did not install the equipment. Additionally, the technician doing the repair work did a great job. Overall I highly recommend this Company and will use them in the future.

I sent an email to The Lee Thompson Company via their website on a Sunday evening explaining the problem and asking for feedback. Scott replied to my message before 10am the next day saying that he believed the problem to be a clog in the main line and he asked me to let him know if I would like to schedule a service call. We exchanged 2-3 more emails over the next couple hours because I had a few more questions about cost, times of day that a technician could come out, etc. Scott was very responsive and polite. I scheduled an appointment for the following Wednesday morning. I wanted to schedule the visit for as early as possible, so they put me down for the first call of the day and said a technician would arrive between 8:00 and 8:30. I received a call around 4:00pm the day before the appointment to confirm. The technician didn't arrive until 8:35 or so; a little bit late. I guess this wasn't a major problem, but I was really hoping that he would have arrived closer to 8:00 instead of 8:30. Oh well. Maybe I'm nit-picking here, but as the first call of the day with a 30 minute window you should be on time. I left for work before the technician arrived, so my wife is the one who dealt with him. She said he was very polite, seemingly honest, and didn't try to sell her anything that wasn't necessary. For example, we have an older A/C unit, but it still has some life left in it. When we had the unit serviced right after we moved in a couple years ago, the guy who performed the service tried to sell us a new unit. The technician from Lee Thompson explained how old our unit is, how much longer he thinks it will last, and what he expects will happen when it finally goes. The service took about 30 minutes total. The cost was $124, but there was a $20 coupon on Angie's List. This was a great experience overall and I will use this company again.
Description of Work: After about 2 years in our condo, water began to drip from a small drain pipe above the bathtub in our master bathroom. My initial research suggested that cleaning the coils would fix the problem. However, after doing some more research I began to believe that this small drain pipe was a secondary "drip line" placed in a conspicuous location to alert a homeowner that the primary line is clogged and need to be cleaned. Sure enough, this was the issue. Someone from The Lee Thompson Company came out and cleaned the main line and the drip stopped. After dripping almost all day every day before the services were performed, I am convinced that the problem is solved because there hasn't been a drip for 3 days.

In the three visits, we've met five of their employees, and they've all been great. They've gone a long way to remedy some of the problems that we've been having with our old unit. During the first visit, Crow was very friendly and went about his work and cleaned-up after himself. During the second visit, Chuck was very thorough during the diagnosis and had some ideas about how to implement the heat pump in our garage appt. and how we could affect the air flow and things that they could do. The two guys (Josh and Joseph) who came out the next day were also very professional and worked hard in the oppressive attic heat. They also were very thorough and explained what they were doing. All four made good impressions.
Description of Work: We've had them out three in the last two weeks--the first time to perform a maintenance check and look at some problems that we've been having. The next time was to speak to someone about some work we need done on our garage appt. and to diagnose an airflow problem. The third time was the following day when they corrected some problems with our duct work and to recharged the freon.
