Blalock Landscaping & Drainage

Mr. Blalock contacted me very soon after I left him a voice mail.  He came out to the house, took a look and offered suggestions with prices.  We discussed a time frame and a few days later I called him with my final decision on what work I wanted done.  It did take about 2 weeks before his crew could get out to do the work, partly due to rain delays and partly because I missed a message from him. The 3 man crew started on time, hand dug the trench, installed the pipe and tie-ins for the gutters, and replaced the soil with the grass side up. A lot of work for one day.  They were very diligent and careful.  Best part - it works!  About a week later his crew installed the gutters, matching the existing trim color.  The work is excellent, looks professional, clean and functions beautifully.

They actually completed the work earlier than promised.  They restored the grass that had to be removed, and we could barely tell that a drain is underground just a few days after the installation. All debris was cleaned up.  Most importantly, after the last 2 to 3 storms, one of which was at least 3 inches in 2 days, there is NO water standing in our back yard.  I would not hesitate to use their services again. In fact, I already did so, having them install permanent leaf screens on my rain spouts. 

Great quality at a reasonable price on both jobs! 

If you have a drainage problem --- like the old PGA line, "These guys are good!"

The work is done in a day and the quality is good. Now, I don't see water on the left side of my house.

If there was an area to rate the above at A+ I certainly would have used it. This was the best experience I have ever had with any service provided! Johnny Blalock was fantastic to deal with. He was eager to help; interested in understanding what the problem was --- and even suggested that I call a plumber first to check the drains lines before I commit to spending what he would charge to do the work described above. Joe who supervised the job was equally terrific, he was determined that the job be done right ... and it was. The rest of the crew were professional, friendly, and eager to help in any way they could.
From start to finish the work was exemplary, and the area was broom clean and back the way it was when complete. I am retired now, but I was an architect and builder --- would have loved to have a group like this to rely on.

I was referred by John Pfster, who is a well regarded foundation specialist in the Heights. I did not shop with other providers. The service was expensive but I thought worth it.

We had the work done by someone else.  
The estimate we received was more than we wanted to spend.  We will be moving out of Houston in less than two years and we went with another provider who is using some of our existing piping thereby saving us some expense.  We do not have a warranty however on our existing piping.  Mr. Blalock was extremely professional, and knowledgeable.  He was a pleasure to meet and would have done a fine job no doubt.
This contractor spent quite a bit of time with us and explained how everything would work, along with his warranty.

I needed improved drainage at the back of my house, especially on the north side where  the neighbor's home is only three feet away and water would enter my garage from the narrow alley when it rained heavily.  When I purchased the house a year ago the home inspector had recommended that I have the alley regraded since it currently slopes toward my house.
Mr Blalock came to my home as per appointment and was knowledgeable, pleasant, and professional.  He recommended a gutter as the less expensive and more effective solution.  He stated that it would be necessary to have a gutter installed on my neighbor's house as well.  If this were not possible, he recommended resurfacing the alley with decomposed concrete at an additional cost of $1,890. (Happily for me, my neighbor agreed to install a gutter.)
Mr. Blalock had his assistant or subcontractor Jesus ("Jessie"), a specialist in gutter construction, visit me and arrange for a screened gutter installation.  Jesus was also very pleasant and knowledgeable.  The work did not take place as scheduled on Friday, May 30, but this was due to an oversight on my part.  The process requires electric power and I had inadvertently left the power off on the outdoor outlets.  My only disappointment was that I was not notified that there was a problem.  When I called to inquire that evening Mr. Blalock cited time constraints and the fact that Jesus had no means of contacting me.  He then had Jesus call me directly.  Jesus called immediately and rescheduled to install the gutter in the next available time slot, the following Monday morning.  This surprised me because it was during a period of heavy rainfall when Blalock Landscaping services were in high demand.  I arrived home that evening to find the work completed and, as far as I could see, it was very well done.

Really good service.   Did the design and installation.   No more water pooling by the foundation.

The fact that the "swamp" has been drained says it all!    The crew came in and got the yard work - pipes laid and surface collection points - done in about two days.   The gutter crew arrived a couple of days later and completed their work in part of a day.   Mr. Blalock did not require any payment prior to starting the work and sent separate bills to the two of us after the work was completed.   The bill was exactly what the estimate specified.

The first time we met Johnny he came to the house, not too far from the time agreed upon, and did a very thorough evaluation at no cost, explaining in as much detail as possible what he could do and why. He drew a nice plan of the house for his records, listened carefully to our ideas of what we wanted, and gave us approximate price ranges along the way (he was also very polite and friendly which helps!).  He clearly knew what he was talking about - you can sense the engineer, and one who has done this work for many years! Not just a handyman by any means. 
 For the gutters and drainage, his pricing was very competitive and in line with other offerings. As far as some other things we were hoping to do all at once with drainage (such as landscaping including leveling and resodding, building a concrete patio, etc) we decided to go with other companies that were more affordable. Johnny apparently works with other artisans he chooses carefully for their quality work, for what may be outside of his expertise. So we're confident that everything would have been done exceedingly well had we gone with it - but we were trying to stay within a very small budget in this instance so decided against it.

Owner Johnny Blalock was very cordial, making several planning visits to our house to help us deal with a serious drainage problem we had. His crew was thorough and did an excellent job of installing drain pipe and drains underneath trees without damaging tree roots. His concrete subcontractor did a somewhat inadequate job with the concrete patio work, and three years later Johnny located a good quality contractor and help offset the cost of replacing the patio with a better quality one. He definitely stands behind his work and is an honorable man. I would recommend him to anyone.

Crew came out to install the screens on my gutters. They missed one section in the back of the house. I thought maybe they ran out of screen & would come back. Johnny Blalock called to find out why I had not sent my check & I told him about the gutters not being finished and he apologized & sent them back out. This cost me $800. I also had a rock drainage bed, that was sloppily installed by my neighbor's yard men, repaired. They did a beautiful job on that. This was maybe 4' x 3' & cost me $400. Johnny is a very nice guy & they do good work, but I think they are expensive...at least for me. I have more drainage issues to be taken care of, but don't know if I want to pay as much as what he wants. If you can afford him, I say use him.

Johnny Blalock arrived on time and after a thorough inspection, gave us his recommendations on solving our drainage issues in our backyard. In 2013, we had a garage built, driveway and sidewalk poured, leaded to areas that were cut off from draining to the front yard.  Johnny spent alot of time with us going over various options, inspecting the area around our home and yard and making the area what we envisioned. We decided to go with Blalock Landscaping because of the thorough plan Johnny came up with for our yard. He also gave us options for future work such as gutters and drainage on the other side of our home.
Within a couple of days of contracting for the work to be done - Johnny had a work crew at our house. They began work on grading the area and loading up all the old grass and plants and some river rock.  His crew worked hard and did an excellent job!  They began the drainage system and dug under the sidewalk and around the back of the garage and out to the street.  Each day when they left - everything was clean.  We were  not left with a construction zone of dirt that was tracked into the house.  When they finished the work - they brought high quality sod in and beautiful flagstone exactly the color we wanted to finish.  They did a great job of relaying the sod they dug out for laying all the pipe. It didn't even look like anyone dug it out in the first place!
We have now had our first significant 4+ inch rainfall since the work was done. There was no standing water, our patio did not have water running onto it and the drains did exactly what they were designed to do! 
We will use Blalock Landscaping and Drainage for any future work of this kind and recommend them highly!

It went very well. Actually turned out better than expected. Johnny added some touches that really enhanced the overall landscaping project. We were extremely happy with it.

I called Mr. Blalock and setup an appointment so he could come out and take a look at my problem. He was very professional and knowledgeable. We started in the backyard , walked around my detached garage, and walked around the entire house. He even looked over the fence into the Neighbors yard behind my house and told me I was getting some of the neighbors runoff rain water draining through my yard. I was looking for a vendor who would give me a complete solution to my problem. I did not want just a solution to standing water. Mr.Blalock was not the first Vendor I had to look at the problem. Others wanted to put in a few catch basins and run PVC pipe to the curb in front of the house. I needed someone to tell me where the water was coming from and  present me with some options . Mr. Blalock told me that putting in a few catch basins and running PVC to the curb would not solve WHERE the water was coming from. He presented me with options for 3 catch basins. Two in the back yard and one along the side of the house . He also presented me with gutter solutions for the 3 sides of my two story home that did not have Gutters. He  told me he would tie those gutters  into the catch basin lines and get that water to the curb in front of the house. I was also given the option to put gutters on the detached garage and the covered breezeway that ran to my back door. All of the water from those gutters were tied into the PVC run to the front. I always had water standing on my back patio after a heavy rain. I was presented with the option of putting a catch basin near the flower bed next to patio. We talked about the pro's and con's of each solution. I decided what I wanted , and we arranged for a date to begin. The crew that installed the catch basins and the drain lines came out first. They were fast, and professional. There were 3 catch basins installed in the back yard tied into PVC run and another on the side of house. The crew drilled a hole in the curb at the front of the house put the PVC line through the curb. Mr. Blalock noticed that my next door neighbor had a catch basin line installed that ran on his property on the side of the house. At the curb where the neighbors line was supposed to come out of the curb there was a "pop up" drain that was not working. Mr. Blalock offered to eliminate the neighbors "pop up" drain and punch his line through the curb next to mine. No charge. The neighbor agreed so now our lines run to the curb side by side. That's going the extra mile to do the right thing

The gutter crew came out a few days latter and installed gutters as we had discussed and tied them into the drain lines going to the curb or flex hoses coming from the downspouts through my front flower beds so the water would run onto my lawn and not on my driveway.

Both crews were friendly and professional and cleaned up after they finished.  

We had a heavy rain last night and the whole system performed just as he said it would. I am completely satisfied with his work

He and his team came back at a later date and installed a small tile walkway free of charge. We plan to use Johnny and his team for additional work in the future.

From start to finish the process was smooth and professional. All calls were answered by the owner himself promptly and his recommendations to alleviate the standing water problem in my backyard was spot-on. On the first day, the owner showed up to confirm the plan and walk the grounds with me and the workers.  The whole job took  2 days and the workers did a great job and cleaned up well when finished. There have been several downpours since the work was done and I can verify that the new drains solved the problem.

I had a drainage problem between the house and driveway. Rain water was draining from the roof and from the driveway into an dirt section between house and driveway. Water was seeping into the foundation and up through an apparent crack into the kitchen floor on that side of the house. Blaylock installed a rain gutter on side of house and stone surface between house and driveway. We gone through the winter rainy season and I can now happily state that the problem has been corrected. I was pleased with the work done and obviously the result.
I'm not sure if this was the best price because I was pleased with the solution that Blaylock proposed and did not seek other bids.

The driveway was pitched toward the house and water was seeping through the foundation into the kitchen floor in the house. Blaylock installed a gutter on the side of the house and constructed a pitched rock runoff to divert the water. I have not previously written this review wanting to see if the problem was resolved after major rain storms. It has worked fine and I'm very happy with the results. The estimated cost surprised me but I had confidence that this would fix the problem. I did not get additional estimates - so my cost rating here may be incorrect. At any rate - I am fully satisfied with the work and would recommend Blaylock's to others experiencing this type of problem.

Mr. Blalock came out and provided us with an estimate to install French Drains and spoke to me at length about regrading our property and other drainage concerns. He was polite, knowledgeable, on-time and pleasant.  The estimate was a bit high for our budget but I would recommend them to our neighbors and friends. 

Overall one of the better experiences I've had with my complete home remodel. They are very easy to do business with. Johnny made two trips to Pasadena one initially at the end of last year, and one again about a month ago when we scheduled. His second trip he listened to my concerns and we made some changes in our original plans. We decided on  7  9" catch drain manifold and 1 downspout riser in the back yard utilizing four inch PVC pipe in back with a 6" line running down the side of house due to minimal elevation drop to curb. We picked up another gutter down spout in the front.
  Jesus and his crew arrived 9:00 AM each of the two days it took to complete the job. They diligently went about their business leaving minimal impact on the yard. You actually have to look hard to know it had been trenched. They hosed off the sidewalks and left the property clean. I have held off sending a review till we got a good rain, which we did today, all seems to be in good working order. I highly recommend Blaylock Landscaping and Drainage and would not hesitate to use again.
