Description of Work: Changed a broken thermostat, checked the whole AC system, measured the freon, and even caulked the spaces around the lines entering our house from the outside AC unit. Above and beyond duty, so to speak. Charlie was very informative and friendly as well as the other young man who came out.

I have 2 units in my house - my downstairs unit broke down in the peak of last summer. I chose this service provider due to good reviews on Angies list. My first time using Angies list. The Tech who showed up was pleasant, explained to me that my A/C unit needs replacing - He showed how the water was leaking around the condensor in the attic, that there was a leak in the evaporator coil which he could not fix and that the new unit wasn't compatible with the compressor which i have to replace..etc. etc. Peak summer - Houston - I agreed to have the unit replaced. It so happens that all these demonstrations were done on the unit which cools upstairs which was working fine (my initial doubts were calmed by the confidence this technician was showing even when I expressed my doubts that that may not be the unit that is broken). When he came to replace the unit next day, he calls me at my work place and says that he was mistaken about the unit and the downstairs unit is completely broken and needs replacing and the upstairs unit (the one which he mistook for the downstairs unit but apparently tested? previously) was actually easily fixable. I was bewildered - but helpless. My house was too hot. I asked him to do what he had to do (He was, of course profusely apologetic and swore that it was an honest mistake and that he did the correct thing). My units started working and gave them the benefit of doubt. This summer, as agreed previously, they were to come over and do an inspection. We fixed a time, I arranged time from work to allow them in but was shocked when I found that they decided to cancel the appointment without having the decency to call and let me know that they weren't coming (apparently left a message on my phone which I havent received yet) When I called to check, the receptionist puts me to the office manager, a pleasant lady who apologised but irked me further by saying they had other priority customers!. They are sweet talking but unprofessional . I am Disappointed.

Robbie, Kevin, and David arrived promptly at the designated time. The old system was removed (not without some expected mess) and the new flexible duct system was installed along with new registers. The guys worked continuously until late afternoon. They were very professional and addressed all of our questions. Only time and the summer air conditioning season will tell how effective the up grade is going to be.
Description of Work: I called Bellaire Air Conditioning and Heating to assess problems with excess condensation on the interior of my windows on cold days with the heat on, and mold growing on several registers. David came out and determined that my relatively new HVAC system could not be accommodated properly by the (20 & 50 year) old duct system. (The company that installed the new HVAC system did not mention the potential problem. David told me that his company would not have sold the system without the duct upgrade.)

David came out and was able to diagnose my problem in short order. The symptom was this: one of my units suddenly stopped working - no heat or cooling. There had been brief power outages the day before, so I checked all the breakers and none had been tripped, so I did not know what was wrong. It turned out to be a defective switch right near the unit in the attic - the switch being intended to cut power to the unit for servicing. I never would have figured out that was the problem (all this for a $0.79 switch!). David was not licensed as an electrician, so he could not replace the switch, but he showed me the breakers, and yours truly took care of the rest. I bought the best switch I could find, plus a $7 tester to verify that the circuit was off before working on it.

Went very well! Responsive, came out on Tuesday after calling Monday. One friday the outside unit was making tons of racket and wobbling out of control. I stopped the unit and one of the blades had snapped off causing the whole assembly to be out of balance. Because of the damage to the motor bearings, I replaced both the fan and motor from a local distributor. I had not replaced the capacitors and the whole unit was wobbling after replacement. I wasn't sure what the problem could be and finally called them to take a look. He adjusted the fan blades (of the new fan blade) until the unit was running smoothly. I hadn't thought of this since the fan blade was brand new. He also recommended the capacitors be changed out since I changed the motor out. I didn't change the capacitors right away and sure enough the unit stopped running again. I changed them out and have been up and running for several months now with no issues. He only charged me for the trip out there and the short amount of time, which was extremely reasonable! Very knowledgeable, I would use them again for sure. It may have only been a $75 trip for this A/C company this time, but I guarantee you I will call THEM when I have bigger problems. It was great because I knew enough to replace some of the components myself and did not have the money to pay for the entire service to be completed by others.

My AC stopped working on a Saturday evening so I called the only location that had high ratings and were open on Sundays. Left a voicemail at around 8AM on Sunday and someone returned my call within 15-20 minutes and gave me a 10am-12pm window. I had asked him on the phone what the service/trip charge was and he said $89. I then asked if that amount would roll into any cost associated with fixing the issue. He responded by saying usually dont double charge. The gentleman actually came a little early which was very nice. He was very and professional and went directly into diagnosing and fixing the issue. The only reason why I gave the pricing a B was the fact that I was charged $149 -15% (Angie List referral) which totalled $126.65. I had asked him what the breakdown of the cost was and he said the service charge plus about 30 minutes of labor @ $75/hr. I didnt say anything as I was happy with the responsiveness however it didnt seem right at the time when he invoiced me. Quick calculations based on what he said would be ($89 + ($75 / 2)) * 0.85 = $107.53. I would use Bellaire AC&H again however I would make sure that I understand all charges before and even during their time at the house and thats with any contractor/vendor.
Description of Work: My AC unit had stopped working again. I had installed a shut off float switch from a previous maintenance and I thought this was the issue again. I went to check the unit in the attic and did not notice the water pan with water so I had to call for help. Bellaire AC&H diagnosed the issue which was what I had originally thought but I did not look in the right place. He took a small wetvac and suctioned out all the drain lines and that fixed the problem. He offered to check the freon level and was kind enough to spend some time with an additional question I had about my 2nd unit to the other part of the house.

We had an independent tech comeout and he told us the compressor went out. He quoted us a new compressor at 50% the price of Bellaire, so we replaced it immediately. I called Bellaire the next week and politely asked why their tech did $400+ of work on a compressor that was dying. Plus, I felt I didn't get a fair deal for my money. I spoke to Jay, a woman who ignored my complaint, simply telling me she'd talk to someone and call me back. 3 business days later, still no call back, and when I called her, she said "nothing had come back to her desk about it," so nothing could be done. No accountability and low rate customer service. Plus, it's been 3 weeks at this point and they have not emailed me the invoice they promised to send that same day. I asked for it and Jay simply said they planned to send it to me quickly... Thank goodness our independent tech was available to install the compressor immediately. Our tenants are comfortable (and safe) and we still saved a bunch of money over Bellaire's high prices (even after paying the useless $425 that day). We own 2 houses in the area and neither Bellaire or Republic will work on our AC's again.
Description of Work: Bellaire, aka Republic, installed an evaporator for us at our rental property last year and did a good, albeit expensive, job. The repairman was knowledgeable and professional, but pretty wordy with the technical jargon. I got a little lost hearing them talk about the various parts, cooling fluids...etc. Still, they got the equipment installed with a relatively quick turn around and made our appointment as scheduled. My issue with them arose on the second encounter a year later. Our tenants complained that the AC wasn't cooling so we called Bellaire back in case it was an evaporator problem. Turns out the central duct was falling apart so he (the same tech) had to rearrange some of the duct placement. Also, a few parts in the compressor needed to be replaced (tech told me a capacitor and start kit was needed). However, the tech made the replacements before asking me for the OK and charged me $425 after the fact. What kind of repairman makes a $400+ charge on replacement parts without getting approval from his customer first?? Then he quoted me new ducting and a new compressor, indicating ours was aging and needed replacement soon. I called him back later to summarize the charges and he assured me that for the time being the AC worked (so our older tenants would be safe on the hot August day). Later that afternoon, less than 6 hours later, our tenants called to inform us the AC was not cooling the house. I called back the tech, assuming it was because of the duct issues he told me about. He mentioned he would try to go back the next day (Saturday) to replace a main duct but he wasn't able to (no blame b/c of the short notice). He called our tenants to inform them in the morning.

Bellaire A/C went beyond what could be reasonably expected in addressing a difficult series of A/C problems. Were prompt and communicated very well. They devised a less expensive way to fix a balky drainage problem, and generally seemed concerned to find ways to spare me unnecessary expenses.

Very well. Found company on Angie's List and chose it over local competitor that we had used for other work and did not find fully satisfactory. Bellaire gave us a prompt appointment, arrived during scheduled window and technician was friendly, experienced and able and answered all questions and explained what he was doing. Overall, very professional and pricing reasonable.
Description of Work: My a/c system was not working properly. Technician checked the internal units and confirmed they were working satisfactorily. Checked the outside units and found one was low on freon. Unit too frozen to properly install new freon immediately so he said he would retun in 2 - 3 hours by which time unit would have warmed up. He returned within timeframe promised, added freon and system has been working for a month.

I don't exactly remember the date that this took place, but I believe it was May or June. We couldn't get the air to cool on one of the units. The unit is very old and we thought for sure we were looking at replacing it. The man that came out, showed us a simple fix and said since we were Angies list customers there'd be no charge. We were very pleased with the service.

David talked to me in terms I could understand. He showed me the part that was broken and explained why it was broken. True professionalism. If you prefer integrity, timeliness, efficency and quality work at a reasonable price, I recommend Bellaire A/C.
Description of Work: The larger of 2 units was blowing but not producing cold air. Called another provider, Air Tech, to come out on Saturday. They showed up 2 hours late and charged $239 just to show up. After approximately 1 1/2 hours, the technician told me that virtually everything was wrong, that my unit was in poor shape and had never been serviced and that I needed $2400 in repairs. I told him that the heat exchanger was replaced one year ago, so I knew that that not EVERYTHING was in poor shape. Other parts had been replaced and/or serviced within the past 4 years as well. He continued to s*** technical terms at me in hopes that I would trust his judgment, diagnosis and estimate. I did not. I asked him to leave. In contrast, David from Bellaire A/C showed up on time and was polite, professional and efficient. He quickly acknowledged that I was an Angie's List customer and advised me of my discount and to what it would apply. He then spent 30 minutes diagnosing my problem. He quickly gave me an estimate and said he would do his best to ensure that the work was within the estimate or below it. DAvid noted that he needed to obtain 1 part -- not the numerous parts suggested by Air Tech -- and that he would do his best to acquire it that day. He did -- one less day wtihout A/C in 90+ degree heat. As promised, DAvid returned that day and fixed the problem within an hour. With the discount, my problem was a $700 problem -- not the $2400 problem suggested by Air Tech.

The company is very honest. They've been our HVAC company for over 30 years. They are professional, and always clean up. They offer a contract for a spring and winter tune ups with a discount for any repairs needed, or new AC units. They are upfront and honest with you, which is great. We definitely recommend them.

I called Bellaire A/C when one (of 3) of our A/C units stopped cooling. It was pretty warm that day and when I mentioned that we have 2 infants at home, they were very responsive and understanding. Charles, one of the technicians, was at our house within 1-2 hours of my call. He had been at our house about 2 years ago to replace a capacitor to this same unit. He remembered this and told me that they had been having problems with this particular brand of capacitor, so he replaced it with another brand with no charge! He did not even charge for labor. Charles was very professional and efficient with his work. I have been very pleased with the service from Bellaire A/C and will continue to call on them in the future.

Bellaire AC serviced 2 units for me in my garage that were no longer in warranty. When I asked how much it would cost, I was told there wouldn't be a charge because I'd had problems with the units before. I've used this company for many years to do all of my AC and heating work, and this sort of service is very typical of them. I've never used a company that actually worked on something for free that was out of warranty, other than Bellaire AC. Last year, they replaced the 2 units for my house. They gave me excellent suggestions for units to buy and did NOT recomment the most expensive unit. They are honest, very competent, and extremely service oriented. All of their installers are excellent and pleasant and go the extra mile. They actually swept up my entire garage floor after the most recent installation, rather than just removing their trash. You will not go wrong by using Bellaire Air Conditioning. I cannot praise them enough.

My aging ductwork started developing leaks and cracks- as such I wasn't getting any airflow from several of my registers. I called two contractors to check out the issue- and both recommended replacing the entire ductwork in the home. Bellaire's representative was much more knowledgeable, and explained everything that was needed to be done. He did not insist on getting other things done, which were recommended by the other contractor. The price was about 1,000 lower than the other contractor, and the people worked all day up in the attic to replace the ductwork. They were hard workers, and left the house clean. They had a few odds and ends to finish, for which they came in the next morning and spent about 2 more hours. All in all, I had an excellent experience with Bellaire Air Conditioning, and I would use them again. One thing to note is that Bellaire Air Conditioning also does business as Republic Air- which I was told is their ductwork side of business. I was a little surprised to see a van with Republic Air on it, but after a call to the representative, he assured me they are not a subcontract.
