Repair Replacement of HVAC systems including ductwork and blown in insulation, plumbing
WONDERFUL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Our A/C had quit working. I called and they were here within 2 hours and finished in less than 2 hours.Explained that a capacitor was out and needed to be replace. Also informed us that the Hardstart part looked fairly new (which it was, last year) and that it had been installed incorrectly and would cause cause the capacitors to burn out quicker. He did not try to sell us on fixing it....but we had him fix it. I believe this company is as honest as anyone would want and also understands that a lot of us do not have extra money just sitting around. I was so impressed that I also purchased their annual maintainance contract. He had not mentioned it to me...I have had one in the past but the other companies costs just got to high...theirs was reasonable. I would highly recommend this company. And of course Angies List where I found him.
Description of Work: Replaced capacitor ad reinstalled a part that had been put on incorrectly by previous vendor.

Ed came out to our house, and inspected our A/C unit. He was very friendly, professional and explained all of the options. He determined our problem was more plumbing than A/C and did not charge us for the short visit. We were so thankful! We will hire him again if another AC or heating problem arises.

The team arrived early Friday morning, worked very professionally for 5 hours to replace 3 coils, 3 motors in the outside units, 3 drip pans, and repair 3 existing UV lights. They encountered no surprises during the work, and gave excellent service to my A/C units. The units were left in a very tidy and clean state, they cleaned up around their work area including vacuuming. I was especially pleased that Mr Ed Newby didn't try to guilt or pressure me into purchasing entire new A/C units (condensers were working satisfactorily). The UV lights were actually ones I had installed from a prior company, but were mounted and wired incorrectly, and only 1 of 3 functioned. The team was able to resurrect all three which I am still in shock over! I strongly recommend All Star A/C & Heating.
Description of Work: Visit # 1 was to inspect my 3 A/C units for annual check-up. I had concerns over the age of the units and condition of the coils, condensers, and duct work, so additional inspection was requested. It was concluded that all 3 of my coils had freon leaks. Visit #2 was to replace coils, motors in the outside units, new drip pans, and UV lights.

I did not have him to do the services. This was a total rip off. When customers have little knowledge of air conditioning or any other job, they can be taken advantage of.
Description of Work: He checked the a/c unit. He showed me the coil which was frozen. He told me that The furnace was good (Trane) but the coil was inferior which approximately cost about $500. He told me that he would replace the coil, put a shut off valve and a new drip pan. Now, I contracted with a home repair who takes care of appliances including air conditioning. The A/C representative checked the unit on June 3, 2013. He told me that the unit was frozen because it was low on freon. He put a sealor on & freon in the unit. It was 7 lbs low.All I had to pay the a/c company is 7lbs X's $50 which was $ 350 + $75. $425 was a far cry from $2,389.Thank God I purchased a home warranty. Please screen your people because it can affect your quality of your services.

Response from All Star A/C & Heating Services
We would like to first say thank you to this member for leaving her opinion as a review because without reviews from the consumer a company has a hard time gauging its service. This customer brings up a great topic. It is All stars position that we will never offer a consumer a “sealer” or simply bandage a refrigerant leak. The Refrigerant portion of a system is a sealed system and should never need to be topped off or recharged. Simply put if you are low on refrigerant you are leaking somewhere. Leaks come from many sources commonly due to technician negligence Did you know that your system is under constant pressure and can leak even when its off. Far too often do we get to a home where the service caps, like on your car tires are left loose leaking valuable Freon. You can fix this problem yourself by simply tightening the caps on the unit with a standard pair of pliers! Often times tho a leak appears either in the evaporator coil upstairs followed by a leak at the condenser and then rarely in the copper lines. Either way folks steer clear from any type of magic fix in a can. This consumer says her system was low almost 7 lbs that’s not a minor leak. She was sold a sealer and a recharge by an appliance repairman from a home warranty. If anyone has had trouble with home warranty repairs , you know what type of care your equipment gets sometimes. If a leak appears on an evaporator often times the only repair is a replacement. Not to say all leaks are not repairable some times they are but usually at a weak braze where the unit was installed. This customer was offered an evaporator coil replacement that came with a new drain pan, drier, primary and secondary overflow protection switches duct and drain modifications , a complete recharge of r-22 which is at an all time high right now. 10 year part warranty and 2 year labor warranty for a price right around $2300. That’s an enormous value for a new coil. Not only that this consumer was sold a very expensive bandage to a bigger problem. Now i'm sure this person put in the Sealer and recharged the unit, presumably not telling the consumer that the information on the bottle of many sealers on the market clearly states to not apply to a system that has more than 1 lb refrigerant loss over a period of a year. She was out of Freon. Folks this sealant is sold around town at supply places for $35.00 Unfortunately it’s a hoax it does not work and it can cause severe damage to your system. You should NEVER need to add Freon or refrigerant to an hvac system. I clearly understand most folks do not have money set aside for large AC repairs, but rest assure we will never offer a quick ineffective repair to a problem. I can speak for my business partner Chris, my self and our staff All Star Ac is not here to take advantage of our customers. Each one of you are extremely important and your best interest will always be put first over profit. Before you by anything Give us a call advice is always free . We have an impeccable reputation and have the backing of the N.A.T.E certification board. We won the 2012 highest achievement from the BBB the Pinnacle award and just won the 2013 BBB winner of Distinction award. We have received back to back Angie's list Super Service awards as well. In closing We understand that we will not please every customer. This is not going to be from a lack of trying. Were truly upset that this customer thought she was being taken advantage She will be calling someone in the future to refill this unit that was not repaired properly, If it sounds to good to be true sometimes that’s what happens. We would have gladly refunded this customers Service fee but it appears she was not charged that initially by the tech. She was brought up to the attic and shown the Ice that had consumed her coil. If a company tells you you have a problem make them show you every time! Please read thru are many reviews and form your own opinion based on facts, truth, and service The very basis of our company Thank you, Ed Newby and Chris Chatterson Owners of All Star Air conditioning and heating services

Our AC stopped cooling yesterday and we called another company (a well reviewed on on Angie's List, no less!) to come check it out. They came last night and they said our freon was "burned out" and the compressor was bad, and that we would need to replace our condenser. They said our repairs would run $2500 to $4500 depending on what model we chose. We decided to get a second opinion just be cautions and because that is a lot of money for us. All Star had good ratings, so I left a message for them today. Ed Newby, the owner, called me back promptly, and when he heard my address, he said he was in the neighborhood and could come right away. He also said he would not charge for a diagnostic because it was already on his way. He looked at the condenser unit, and the first thing he noticed was that the other guys had put a piece of the power unit back in upside down, so the condenser was not going to work no matter what now unless that was fixed. Then he went up in our attic to inspect the other half of our system (it's a split system heat pump/ac). When he came down, he asked what our power bills were like, and he said we could save a lot by putting in just $1000 of insulation or so. I was sort of embarrassed about that and said, yeah, I know, but I just graduated from school and I'm still job hunting, so... we've just been getting along trying not to make any expensive repairs until I could get hired, but we definitely planned to do it in the future. Then he went back outside to look at the compressor some more. About twenty minutes later, he came in and said, "It's fixed." And it was! It was blowing cool air! He said he just put in a new starter kit and something else (sorry, I can't remember the part name). I said that was AMAZING because obviously that's so much better than buying a whole new condenser! I asked him what I owed him, and -- HE REFUSED TO TAKE PAYMENT. He said that every now and then he likes to do someone a favor and that he knows what it's like to be just out of school. I really wanted to write him a check, and he just wouldn't let me do it. He said it was a small repair and he wants to show people there's a different way to run a business, without cheating people. I almost cried. I had been so worried about how we were going to buy a new condenser and pretty much figured we would just have to wait and be hot until I got a job. I don't know why he decided to do such a nice thing, but he has my business FOREVER after this, and he should have yours, too. He could have backed up the other repair company and put in a competing bid for a condenser -- I told him what they quoted, and that would have been easy for him to do. He could have lied to me, undercut them, and gotten our business that way. Instead he was completely honest, and he did a really nice thing with no benefit for him. I'm serious -- we will never go to anyone else after this. By the way, he also explained to me how to insulate my own attic so I could do it without having to pay someone to do it for me. He's a quality guy. All Star has my highest recommendation.

Since I had old friends coming in from out of town, we are all over 70, and they were due to arrive that afternoon; the owner moved me to the head of his list and came early in AM. Fixed it and we were cool when the guests arrived. I had tried three other companies earlier. They would not "go the extra mile" as All Star did. I had used all three before, but guess who I will be using now? All Star! Thanks, All Star, great job, outstanding customer service!

I choose the day and two hour window time. When he knew that the job he was currently on was going to run late he called and assured me that he would be only about an hour late. I said, That was okay with me and thanked him for his call. He came , I showed him where the units were located and he went right to work. I asked if he could leave me, in writing, proof that everything had been checked and is in good working order for any potential buyers. He did!

Chris arrived before his appointment with shoe coverings on and his ID photo and a work shirt with a company logo on it. He did a thorough inspection of my A/C, informing me that it needed 3 pounds of freon. The good news is that in spite of its being 13 years old, it still works well. Chris asked me if I had yearly maintenance done on it (he had never been to my home before), and I responded that I had. Chris then told me that is one of the reasons my unit is still in good condition. The bad news is that I need a new supply plenum because the one in my attic is moldy. This box costs $495. Chris even took a photo of it to show me the mold on it on his cell phone. I informed him that I would plan to have him install it in the fall since I hadn't included extra funds for this purchase in my home repair budget. Chris assured me that this box would not affect my air conditioner's cooling in any way--that it was more of a health hazard for those who had asthma and other breathing problems. I appreciate his candor and the fact that he did not try to sell me a new A/C unit the way many large companies try to do. The fact that his company has won four awards since 2010 when it started the business is no surprise to me. One of the things he told me is that his company's goal is to prove that all A/C and heating companies are not out to "gouge" customers. He also spoke of All Star's involvement in a few charity events to give back to the community. I'll have to admit I was impressed. It is so refreshing to do business with a company that has high standards and charges a fair price but is ethical as well. In spite of having only five technicians, this company is going places! Ed was very thorough with the inspection. Every part of the system was checked outside and inside the house. Ed explained what he was doing and why through each step. He discovered the valve covers were loose on the outside units and one was missing. Ed is going to mail one to me at no cost. Ed also installed a starting kit to our system so the compressor won't take such a huge hit when starting up. It will add years to our system and lower the electricity bill. Ed left us a business card and he gave me his cell phone number as well. He told me to give him a call if I had any questions at all.

One of the company owners, Ed, came out to my home to inspect my AC to make sure it was in working order for the upcoming summer season. From the initial phone call to the payment at the end of the inspection, Ed was wonderful! There was a scheduling mixup initially but Ed quickly rectified the mistake. He was courteous, thorough, and honest. He called 30 minutes prior to his arrival and was right on time. He let me know of a few minor concerns he discovered, re-connected some loose wires, and did the work in an efficient manor. We have two houses on our property and he was able to take care of both units and offered a discount for the service. I truly appreciate the caliber of service Ed provided and would highly recommend his company to everyone. It is nice to know that there are still companies out there that take pride in the work they perform. Keep up the great job!

I had an inspection because my upstairs A/C unit wasn't cooling properly. He quickly identified the problem as a leaking evaporator. When he found out that I had a home warranty, he recommended that I call the warranty company and have them do the repair rather than him, so that I could save some money. He even gave me tips on how to discuss my repair with the warranty company and make sure everything was done properly. Although I didn't end up going through All Star for this repair, I would certainly use them in the future, based on their professionalism and honesty.

The guys are always prompt, reliable and very fair. I've recommended them to many friends over the last 4 years and am totally confident that they will always provide the best service and go out of their way to fix your problem as quickly as possible. Last summer when we had a unit go out in the high heat, they were swamped, but asked how late it was ok to come out. We are late night people and they made it out around 10 pm. They just had so many calls from people needing their A/C fixed that they couldn't get it in during normal business hours. They didn't want to leave their customers without relief in the heat so they worked, literally, day and night to get us all back up and cooling! I keep their number in my cell phone and won't even consider using anyone else for any heating or a/c issue. Once I find a company like All Star, I plan to stick with them. I just wish I had this type of confidence in all of the other trades that I need to keep our household running!!

.Overall, I was extremely satisfied with this company. They employ quality people and Chris and Ed are both friendly and accomodating. They got the job done in less time than they quoted and were able to work around my schedule. I have posted my experience on facebook and would HIGHLY recommend them to any of my friends. Their prices are fair and their service is above standard. They did not try to upsale me at any point in our dealings and they charged the price that was quoted on day 1.
Description of Work: Chris came out to inspect my a/c system on a warm day in order to determine the cause of the problem we were having with our A/C unit cooling. My a/c's coils were leaking, it was low on R-22 (freon), the secondary drain pan was incorrect (I know - I put it in), and the primary drain was clogged. His recommendations were: 1. We could fill with freon at $100/lb. This was a fair price, as R-22 in the market consists of only reclaimed freon from old units. The government is planning on phasing this gas out by 2020. 2. We could do the above and replace the coils and clean the drain. Total cost would be around $1300-1500.00 3. We could replace the coils with coils that would handle the new alternative gas. Total cost about $2400.00 4. He could install a matching system (inside and outside) for $4300.00 There was no pressure to buy a new system, but my research indicated that R-22 was not going to be a viable option and our current system never really cooled to my standards. I asked what the turn around would be for a new system and he said he could have installers at my house the next day. He waived the cost of the inspection and said he would just charge whatever service I chose from the list. The next day, Ed came out to explain what was going to happen. His installers followed and had the a/c up and running in less time than I was originally told (3 hours total time). They installed a 3 ton system with a 2 year parts and labor warranty and 10 year manufacturer's warranty. Chris followed up in the afternoon to ensure I was completely satisfied, take payment, and check the system. A cold front came in around noon, so he said he would follow up again when it was hot outside to make sure everything functioned properly.

Chris was the fourth and last A/C rep to come to my house. I was having an issue with uneven distribution throughout the house. I suspected and confirmed myself that my 50 plus year old ductwork was leaking. The first three companies insisted that I install a new unit and the ductwork was either ok or was out of date and should be torn out and replaced. Their recommendations varied wideky. Chris came out and was the only one to take measurements and ask questions. He crawled all over the attic. The others peered in with a flashlight. Chris found a small freon leak and repaired it with a simple procedure. He also recommended repairing the leaking ductwork and explained that the type of ducts I have were excellent and only in need of resealing and insulating. He did not recommend a new unit. His crew arrived and removed some boxes from the space, completed the work quickly, cleaned up and were very courteous and professional. It is obvious that the repairs have made a difference. The temperature of the air is noticeable as well as the flow rate. I am looking forward to summer now!!! I have already recommended all star to a neighbor and will continue to recommend them in the future. When I do need a new unit, All Star will be the only company I call.
Description of Work: Attic ductwork re-sealed, wrapped with insulation and blown insulation added.

I called All Star today at 10:30 because our heat didn't come on this morning. I found them through Angie's List (of course). They said they were available today to come out between 1 and 3 pm, which was great news. He called before he came and was at our house at 1:10pm. He put down a tarp to make sure any dust didn't come down from the attic and was in and out in less than 30 minutes and our heat is back on. It was a loose wire and he connected it and made sure the connection was tight so it didn't vibrate off again. They could have charged us an arm and a leg because we don't know anything about furnaces but they were honest and fair. All star has officially become our Heating and Cooling people.
Description of Work: Reconnected a loose wire that prevented the regulator from sending gas to the furnace
