AIR-TON HEATING & AIR CONDITIONING

Buyer beware of this repair service. The son purchased this company from his father. We have worked with his father for many years--an honest and kind professional was, every time, reasonably priced. We contacted the father to fix my parent's a/c and he forwarded our request to his son. His son did go out later in the day to review and repair the unit. Before finishing the repair, he did have to leave to go and get parts about a mile away, a capacitor and start kit. While we were the ones that sent him out, they did not call us with any estimate. We found out only after he left that he charged my 83 year old parents on a fixed income and isolated due to COVID-19, $726.11 for a job that should not have cost more than $350-$400. He charged $135 for the diagnostic fee - not unreasonable He charged $224.53 for the capacitor, the exact model we found on Amazon for $11.71 - UNACCEPTABLE, A 2000% MARKUP He charged $281.11 for the start kit, the exact model we found on Amazon for $56.87 - UNACCEPTABLE, A 400% MARKUP He charged $85.47 to leave and pick up parts that are common and he should have had with him - UNACCEPTABLE The unit is working and the work completed is acceptable. It is the charges that are beyond unacceptable, unfair, and unprofessional.

Ray and his team replaced my downstairs ac unit. I have used Air-Ton for the past couple of years after seeing his work for a neighbor who has high standards for service. Air-Ton has proven to be very easy to work with and they always deliver quality work and at reasonable cost. When my unit started having issues, Ray recommended a couple of options before just replacing the unit. His experience and professional advice was evident on what could be done and what the various outcomes would be. After the unit stopped cooling a few weeks later, he came back and scheduled to replace the unit. He offered several option with the pros and cons of each with pricing and then delivered on time without any problems. I can't say enough about Ray and his team. Highly recommended...

Past Experience - June 10, 2013:
Air-Ton was recommended by a friend who uses them for AC work for their business location.  I set up an appointment for an AC check-up for my home.  The owner's son and helper came on time to do the check up.  They checked the heater and blower in the attic (no service performed) and the outside unit (again no service performed).  I was told that I had a leak in the evaporative coil and the entire unit needed to be replaced.  They also recommended a service agreement with their company which I purchased ($140).  They were to call back with an estimate for the complete replacement.  Fortunately for me they did not call back in a timely manner.  I decided to have another technician look at the AC.  As part of this new check up the technician did a general check up, treated algae growing in the drain pan in the upstairs unit, and charged the compressor with freon.  I called the owner and requested a refund of the service agreement.  I did receive a partial refund (which was the amount less the service charge).
BOTTOM LINE - I just had my yearly check-up on this unit I was told that needed replacement and it is running great TWO YEARS LATER!!

JT was on time, and covered his muddy shoes with covers, which is good. The first thing out of his mouth, however, was "do you have any bleach?" I did, but I question folks who don't arrive with necessary items. He replaced 2 of the 3 filters in my A/C (fortunately I had some lying around) but I had to hunt down a step stool for him to do so (he forgot to replace the third one...but that's easy). After feeling a bit odd about having to help so much with his service appointment, the discovery of the leak didn't make me very happy, as I thought the A/C was working well. (I was glad he weighed the freon in front of me, as it's expensive.) The total charges were $223 for the work performed, however, he sold me a protection plan which includes 3 maintenance service calls. He waived the $90 fee for that trip and discounted the repairs, making the total $100 more than $223, however, that includes a winter heating inspection and a spring A/C inspection next year. Worth it? Hope so!

This is a very reliable and trustworthy company and is my #1 choice for A/C and Heating work. Ray Newton made sure to explain to me the work that was done and any possible signs of later impending trouble. I have had several experiences with Air-Ton and Ray Newton over the last 2 years. I emphatically recommend them to do any work on anyone's A/C and heating system. Ray Newton has a good memory for his work. He remembered my system even though he was out here last a year previously. Also he remembered the previous owner of my house and the work that he did for him. Goes to show that it's good to stick with one company for all work. I still can't believe he came on a Sunday for the second job, exactly on time and did not even charge me!

Overall experience was wonderful. Everyone on time, professional and courteous. Priced $900 less than a quote from a different company.

They missed an initial appointment, I had to call them to remind. They came on time the second time. When they arrive, they are quick and efficient. They were also quick to offer to help me troubleshoot the problem myself over the phone so that they did not have to come over. I think that the company is very qualified, professional in their work, but often they are not so punctual. However, I do trust their prices and their work, and would recommend them, with the above caveat in regards to punctuality.

1ST JOB: RAY NEWTON WAS ON TIME. HE CAME ON A SATURDAY AS THAT WAS THE ONLY TIME THAT I CAN MEET HIM. HE DID NOT CHARGE ME EXTRA FOR WEEKEND SERVICE. HE WAS PROFESSIONAL AND EXPLAINED HIS FINDINGS THOROUGHLY. HIS PRICE WAS FAIR. IT WAS A BIT DIFFICULT TO REACH HIM AS THEY HAVE ONLY AN ANSWERING MACHINE TO TAKE THEIR CALL. THEY HAVE BEEN IN BUSINESS OVER 10 YEARS. I THINK THEY ARE HONEST AS THEY JUST FIXED THE PROBLEM FOR $81.00; WHEREAS ANOTHER COMPANY (PREVIOUSLY HIGHLY RATED ON THIS LIST) WANTED TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE A/C COMPRESSOR UNIT AND GAVE ME A QUOTE OVER $2000. 2ND JOB: RAY NEWTON IS AN HONEST MAN. CAME ON TIME. I HAD ASKED HIM TO CALL ME PRIOR TO COMING BY THE HOUSE AS I WANTED TO BE THERE TO EXPLAIN THE PROBLEM. HE DID JUST THAT. I AM HAPPY AS ANOTHER COMPANY (ON ANGIE'S LIST AS WELL) WANTED TO REPLACE THIS UNIT FOR OVER $3000.
