When I left the house one day to take my car to the shop I returned to find that they cleaned up and took off, leaving the job unfinished. My check was cashed that same day. My flooring was cracked, walls and windows were cracked, back door off-set, and there was a big slope in the floor. There was not one single cracks anywhere prior to them touching my house. When I brought it to Todds attention he said, "we're not responsible for damages done". Really!! Todd actually said to me that I told them they were finished, lol. How would I even know that, plus I wasn't even home at the time? After 2 years of calling Todd, and sending many emails, the last message stating I was filing a law suit. I finally heard from him and he sent his 2 man crew out.
They ended up screwing up my whole house! Luckily, I took video of the damages done while his crew was still here, and it was a lot more than just cracks throughout the inside and outside of my home. I knew to take video since they wouldn't take responsibility in the past. I actually had no cracks prior to their return because I already had their initial damages fixed.
They broke windows, siding, walls, the hardwood floors, tile, and even left a floor joist bouncing around. They separated the ceiling, in the entire room, from the wall, separated the back steps from the house, and separated the bottom of the french window! When I contacted Todd he said he would send a 3rd party contractor, because his crew made false accusations that i was telling them how to do their job, by providing lunch and drinks i guess. Maybe they stated I was the problem because I was the only one inside the house, when at least one of them should have been but wasn't, when they were lifting. I yelled for them to stop when the whole ceiling broke and was separated half an inch from the wall. I just had that room painted to.
After causing destruction to my house they said they needed additional materials and would return in a few days to finish and reset things. Todd, the boss, said they were done! Todd never even came out to my house to inspect their work and he never sent that 3rd party foundation repair guy' but I was insulted and shown zero professionalism. Good thing I had a structural engineer come out within days of them leaving my house a mess. They actually took measurements, unlike Dura-Tech foundation repair. Guess what, they were negligent. They raised it too high! The ceiling being away from the wall told me that but measurements are ideal for court purposes. I would have already filed a suit on them but had to go through the lost of my dad, grandmother, and pet. I will soon file a complaint with the BBB and file a law suit for what they did. I feel no concern for my property and a serious lack of respect was shown and I wouldn't wish that on my enemy.
"We have been in business for 15 years and have completed over 1,200 foundation repairs in DFW. We have a A+ rating with both the Dallas and Fort Worth Better Business Bureaus, and many, many great customers. We average three to four referral calls a week from people referred by our previous clients. Like any other business, we have made mistakes. Also, foundation repair is a very subjective service. We can only do so much with some houses. Sometimes the results and not perfect. Many times we damage the interior of the house when we level it. Also, if the interior has been repaired while the structure was down and we raise it to level it, there will be extreme cracks and doors and windows will be out of square. During these 15 years, we have run into three clients that were not only difficult to deal with after we started the job, but started accusing us of all manner of horrible things. Then our misdeeds seemed to get worse and worse as time went on. They all happened to be from Angie's List. So please read this and the other bad review below (which she decided to change to an A rating three years later because we completed 75% of the job and refunded 100% of her money on the spot). If these reviews cause you to have second thoughts, I urge you to call another company to do your foundation work. We can't satisfy or defend against these types customers. 99% of our customers are great...it's that 1% that cause all of our problems. Our first mistake was taking this job in the first place. This was a dilapidated porch connected to a very old house. The floors were way off and the construction was very poor. The customer explained she had run off the last person who worked on the porch foundation and how she ad been taken in the past by several contractors on different projects. When my assistant and I left after the initial visit, we looked at each other and thought if it was probably best to pass on this one. But the customer called back and we took the job. We even installed new treated beams, which was not in the contract. We did an excellent job on her porch. We did crack some walls, flooring, and the back door was out of square. We left some slope in the floor because it would do more damage and raise the other side too high. We came back out the next day and she insisted we raise it more. We also had to raise it too high to make the back door work, which she insisted on and we understand. There is a paragraph on the front of our agreement that has the heading UNDERLINED AND IN BOLD OVERSIZE LETTERS..."PLEASE READ BEFORE SIGNING". It continues: "Dura-Tech Foundation Repair Systems uses the utmost care in raising your home, however, as with all remedial foundation repairs our goal is to stabilize and attempt the prevent future movement. We cannot always recover 100% of the deflections present in the foundation. The foundation may not be exactly level in some places when we are finished. Doors and windows may or may not work when we are finished. We are not responsible for additional cracks in interior or exterior, misalignment of framing, doors, door frames, moldings, countertops, windows, walls, ceilings or flooring; damage to plumbing or gas pipes, plumbing fixtures......and goes on from there. This is the most exaggerated, baseless and outrageous set of allegations we have ever seen. The customer also emailed us that she had a building official from the city out to her house and he was going to file charges against us, she had contacted other agencies and they were looking into the matter....and on and on. No such official or agency exists. She's been threatening to sue us for two years. We invite any action or lawsuit she can mount. We have lawyers and the right to defend our good name, too."
"I have owned Dura-Tech foundation for 11 years. We are a local, friendly, family owned company. Our mission statement from the beginning has been to be a maximum service to the customer. I have worked diligently to instill that philosophy in our staff, as our many satisfied customers will attest to. We have over 1,000 Lifetime Warranties in force. Our philosophy of being maximum service has resulted in many referrals from former clients of our company. We are deeply saddened and concerned that this project did not go as planned. With all due respect, I can't agree with the Member's analysis of our company or their explanation of how we performed their foundation project. We made several important mistakes at the beginning of the job, but corrected them promptly. I told the Member we would adjust the price to compensate her for these stupid mistakes on our part. Also, we have taken this as an opportunity to make the necessary changes to our process so this will not happen again. The situation continued to deteriorate. Due to our initial mistakes, the Member (I don’t blame her) was now questioning everything… the material, the pier placement, the installation, the workers, the number of piers and even if “we may have made an extra key and could come back later to steal things from her.” Then she accused us of skipping steps when she was wasn’t watching, trying to “catch us” doing this and “catch us” doing that. The Member proceeded to sit on the ground behind my worker all day saying during the installation saying “stop, that doesn’t look right, use another piece of material, take that steel out a put a longer piece, etc.” because now she couldn’t trust us. I do understand her feelings, but this is where a little knowledge becomes dangerous. No company can work under these conditions. It is important to note here that we still had to satisfy both the City Building Inspector and the Independent Structural Engineer (hired by the Member)…with the pilings installed and the holes open. Then I learned on Saturday she had called and put the first half credit card payment “on hold”….we had agreed to take 50% of the money down and give Laura one year of monthly payments at “0%” interest (an “in-house” loan from our company). We were already doubtful we could satisfy her, now our confidence level on eventually getting paid on the job dropped to zero. My team was exasperated…I was exasperated, but we were still determined to finish the work. When Laura stopped the job (again) on Sunday (we worked Sunday to try to get the job finished) after we started the lifting procedure on the other side of the house because “she couldn’t watch everyone at the same time”. At that point, after talking to the foreman, I decided to “throw in the towel” on a project for first time in 11 years in business. Although the job was 75% complete, I issued a full 100% refund and an apology, no questions asked. Now the Member is out exactly zero dollars and is free to hire any company she wants to finish the work. We have taken the necessary steps to make sure this does not happen again."
