The gentleman performing the service showed up on time. He was very nice and courteous, and he didn't mind me following him around learning about sprinkler systems. Got me all fixed up, as well.
Will definitely use them again and recommend them to my friends.
We scheduled an appointment with American Irrigation 2 weeks before 7/15/2013. We were given a window between 1pm and 3pm to expect the service. At 2:45pm, (still nobody has shown up) we called their office to ask about our appointment. The woman said "Oh, we were hoping to reschedule you for Friday". Well wouldn't it have been professional for them to call us BEFORE today's appointment? And I'm amazed that they didn't even have the decency TO CALL US and inform us that they WOULDN'T be coming out today.
Needless to say, both my husband and I were p*****. We've waited 2 weeks and my husband took off from work to be here for the consult. I had cancelled a class myself.
It's ridiculous! We won't be rescheduling our appointment for Friday as they would like. We are done with this company.
Unfortunately for them, they've also lost a potential client in our neighbor who wanted to speak with them and get an appointment for her own sprinkler system.
UPDATE: The Owner called my husband on the 16th, to apologize and accept full responsibility for their lack of communication. He made very nice offers saving money, but we declined. We've already made plans with another company. We felt the Owner was very professional in trying to rectify the situation. Shame our experience wasn't better. Based on this update, I've adjusted my scoring to reflect our overall opinions.
"I am so very sorry that this happened on my watch. When the storms blew in on Monday the 15th we had about 20 jobs scheduled for the day, half of which we had to immediately reschedule. We thought we could get the remaining jobs taken care of jumping out of the storm’s path through the day but we got caught waiting for storms to pass to complete jobs. We dropped the ball on not calling you earlier in the day to let you know what we were up against. In hind sight a call to reschedule when they first issued the flash flood watch would have been more respectful of your time. I already had the joint that needed to be fixed dug up, but in order to fix it I would of had to dig up a bunch more so I showed them the joint and they gave me a estimate of about $80. They also mentioned that they would do a inspection, however they didn't mention that this cost was additional to the estimate, nor did they mention that say that it would be more than the actual repair (about another $80).
If knew that it was going to be $80 I wouldn't of consented to it. Most of my yard is drip irrigation, and very few sprinklers. During the inspection they pointed out a sprinkler head that wasn't working. However I knew that my wife had cut through a drip line a few days before. If they turned on that zone, they would of seen the drip hose shoot out like a geyser. They didn't mention this after the inspection, and I noticed that the cut hose was turned on due to the wet shifted dirt around it.
Fair enough that I didn't ask about the price of the inspection, but if it is going to double my bill, I think that they should of told me.
I gave the company a call and told them about these issues. They told me that they are usually clear about the inspection and the price, and gave me a $20 discount (so 157.90 now). I also told them about the poor inspection and they felt bad about it and apologized, but that was the extent of it.
From the phone conversation I couldn't get out if their inspection was mandatory or not. It seemed like it was, if that is the case then you are in for at least $80 before they do anything. I understand in some cases the inspection is necessary to find out what is going on, but I had the spot already dug up and the leak was identified. All I needed was for them to fix the leak.
The C for quality is for the inspection. They did a good job on the fix.
I wouldn't use them again because I usually have the fix already identified and do not need the inspection, just the fix.
Update:
As they said in their response, they did me right and refunded the inspection fee. Even gave me a subway card. Can't ask for a better response to a unhappy customer.

broken shut off valve required me to cut off water to the house. She sent Jim within two hours to handle my immediate emergency need. He returned in a couple to days to replace the broken pipes and valve. Jim is very competent, courteous and professional.
He completed the repairs and tested the system to be sure all problems were resolved before leaving. An excellent job, outstanding service.
The most recent change was that I wanted to lower my main water supply line about a foot underground. I could do that, but I realized that the electrical control wires run with the supply line, and I would need to drop it down a foot and then back up at end of the section where I am working. So the wires need to be longer. I can splice wires, but these have to be underground and waterproof. They came out and did it -- very well -- and in such a way that I learned how to do it, and can do it myself the next time (if there ever is a next time).
