The dog seemed to like them, and they do a good job, so they're great. They're a little more expensive.

It was last-minute, but I needed to get my dog cleaned up a bit before taking her out of town with us. I looked online and all the grooming places were only open 9 to 5 -- that wasn't possible with my work schedule. Thankfully, I remembered that Petsmart has a grooming salon, and when I called I found they were open late into the evening. I was able to get an appointment the next evening.
My dog looked great, and the price I paid was even $2 cheaper than what I'd been quoted when I dropped her off. I had a special request (cleaning around my dog's eyes) that they did for free, no problem. They called me when she was ready to be picked up. I was a little surprised that they estimate it'll be about four hours between when you drop off and pick up your dog, since she was just getting a basic bath and there weren't many other dogs in there. (It ended up being about three hours). But, I have heard this is standard for dog grooming, and I was just glad they had such convenient hours and reasonable prices. I'll be taking my dog there pretty regularly when she needs her hair cut.

Melissa was our primary trainer for the six weeks, but we also had the other trainer at this location teach one class. I'm sorry I don't remember her name, because she was great too.
Like I said, I didn't expect much from my dog. But at the end of the six weeks, my dog passed the class and can Sit, Lay Down, Come, Stay, Leave It, and Drop It. She's not a perfectly trained dog, but she does what I tell her to do nine times out of ten -- even if I don't have a treat! Melissa does give handouts and stresses that you should practice for 10 minutes a day between classes. Our life was hectic enough (and we were still house-breaking her) so I'll admit we rarely practiced with her. So we relied mainly on that one hour lesson per week, which makes it all the more amazing that she learned so much!
I can't recommend the classes enough. Classes are limited to 6 dogs (mine had only 3) and it's only $109 -- it was practically a one-on-one session with my dog for $18 a pop. If she hadn't passed the test at the end, we could have retaken the class for free.
Another huge bonus for me was, after only the first class, I stopped into Petsmart after the dog had yet another accident in the house, and found Melissa on the floor. Right away she gave me a bunch of tips on house-breaking that really helped. I think it's awesome that they have dog trainers on staff and available like that all the time.
We'll be back for intermediate obedience class soon!

Melissa was great! She gave me specific instructions to work with my dog to reduce his reactivity and aggression. She even brought her dog in so that I could work with my dog in a controlled environment. Though my dog is still a work in progress, the improvement we have made has enable us to be able to walk on leash in the neighborhood without worrying that he will lunge toward everyone and everything.

We signed our 4 1/2 month old puppy up for the puppy training class with instructor Melissa Martin at PetSmart store #1966. Melissa has been training dogs for 10 years. The course is one night a week for 6 weeks and is based on positive reinforcement with "clicker" training and treats. Each class was about an hour long, but sometimes more. The training included basic puppy commands like teaching the puppy to associate the clicker with a reward, focusing his attention on you, sitting, lying down, loose leash walking, coming when called, "leaving" things that you don't want him to have, socialization with other dogs and with people, house training tips, etc. Handouts with instructions were given at the end of each class to help with homework. Melissa also helped us find a treat that our picky eater would respond to. Once we found a treat to motivate him our puppy responded well to the training. Melissa also showed us how to expand the clicker training to help in other areas like bathing and grooming. The only downside that we have found with reward-based training is that our puppy responds to commands ONLY for a reward. No reward forthcoming consistently, no cooperation. Hopefully with time and further training he will learn to respond to commands just because he's supposed to.
