The pier installation and the lifting was done pretty fast.
Couple of bushes did not survive the movement, but the rose is blooming again.
There was a sprinkle leaking after the repair, but it was fixed quickly after informed.
So far no further issue found.
Dan had been very responsive to any inquiry from the beginning to the end.
They said what they'll do and did what they said.
It was amazing to actually watch the foundation lift and a crack along a window frame close up.
All the people connected with Hargrave have been very polite, thorough in their explanations, and professional. I would definitely recommend Hargrave to others who think their home may need foundation repair.
Getting foundation repair is a painful experience, but Hargrave did a wonderful job of it and I would not hesitate to recommend them to anyone seeking such services.
We contacted Hargrave and they scheduled us for a Thursday/ Friday install. On Thursday their crew showed up and began digging the holes and placing brackets. They were very neat and dug up some shrubs as necessary. We had a deck out back, and they had to cut into it in order to place brackets under part of the garage wall. They finished installing approximately 17 piers on Thursday, and on Friday morning they finished the last two. They also designed special brackets for a back porch slab that the prior homeowner had enclosed as a sunroom. (They were the only company that addressed the back porch slab in my original set of estimates. That was another reason that I liked them.) Friday afternoon they coordinated with our structural engineer so that he could be on-site for the lifting. Jim McNeme and Nick from Hargrave worked really well together and lifted our house to get it back into better alignment. I was so pleased to be able to open and close doors again.
Friday afternoon the crew began filling in holes and replacing shrubs. I felt they were very careful and considerate in doing that. They also replaced the boards that they had to cut to access under the deck.
My only complaint in all of this was that I did not like the plumbing company, In-House plumbing, that came out to do the foundation leak test. Apparently (which I didn't realize when they came) the leak test is complimentary (Hargrave isn't paying them) and that is all they will do. In-House plumbing found a very small leak and their plumber said it was an easy fix and I could fix it myself. I'm not a plumber, and asked him could I pay him to fix it while he was here, and he told me no. I called their office and asked could I reschedule with them, and they said yes, but that I would have to pay them for another water leak test. That made me angry, and the owner ended up telling me that the fix was too complex and he did not want my business. So I called another plumbing company (I have given them an A report) and they had the leak fixed in 15 minutes. If I had to do it again I would request that Hargrave arrange the leak test with a different plumbing company.
All in all with Hargrave it was a very good experience. I felt we were in good hands.
"We were surprised to read this report. I cannot find anyone in our office that even remembers talking with this individual. I am wondering if she is confusing our company with another company that she may have talked to. While it is true that we would typically only give a "ballpark" bid based on an engineer's report (untill we have actually visited the house) it is NOT true that we do not give firm bids once we HAVE visited the house. It is our practice to give accurate bids and we do it all the time. There ARE some houses, typically involving INTERIOR pier placement where the thickness of the slab is not yet known, that we might have to give a price range on the work but, even then, the owner would know the maximum dollar amount that they might have to pay for the installation. It IS true that we are currently backed up quite a bit on estimate appointments. Due to the severly dry weather that we are all currently experiencing, there are a lot of foundation problems occuring right now and we regret that people are having to wait for appointments. But we do appreciate their patience. Our staff is working overtime to try to accommodate the many requests for appointments that we are currently receiving. Our company strives to be polite on the phone and provide excellent customer service and we have been doing this for the past 25+ years."
