We called three companies to come look at our house's foundation because we started getting cracks around the perimeter. Of the 3 called Hargrave came out, walked the house and gave us honest feedback that although we had some mild  settling and fine cracks there was not need to repair the foundation, that what we were experiencing was natural settling. No hard sales to get us doing work that didn't need to be done. Should we need assistance in the future we feel they are extremely trustworthy, have been in business for a number of years and would call them back to do the work- if and when it's needed.

Workers arrived on time.  Worked under 100+ degrees and carefully moved the bushes.
The pier installation and the lifting was done pretty fast.
Couple of bushes did not survive the movement, but the rose is blooming again.
There was a sprinkle leaking after the repair, but it was fixed quickly after informed.
So far no further issue found.
Dan had been very responsive to any inquiry from the beginning to the end.
They said what they'll do and did what they said.

From start to finish I was pleased with the services provided by Hargrave.  Dan Hargrave was very professional during the initial assessment and answered all my questions regarding the process.  The engineer he sent out was very thorough and professional as well. Very polite and timely.  The Hargrave staff did an excellent job of keeping the mess to a minimum as they dug the holes around the house they put the dirt on top of tarp.  They too were patient to answer my questions while they were working.  Salvador also explained the various types of equipment being used. As they were lifting the foundation Nick also took time to explain what they were doing and why.  Once the foundation was raised to the point needed, the holes were then refilled and soil not able to fit back in the holes was placed around the foundation.  The one shrub that had to be taken out was removed and appears to be recovering.  The hole that had to be made in the garage was re-cemented.  I appreciated that the staff took the time during the clean up to also repair the cracks in the mortar around several bricks.
It was amazing to actually watch the foundation lift and a crack along a window frame close up.
All the people connected with Hargrave have been very polite, thorough in their explanations, and professional.  I would definitely recommend Hargrave to others who think their home may need foundation repair.

Very happy with honest people.  Other company we spoke with wanted to sign us up for work on the spot and required money down.  Hargrave said the damage was not sufficient to require repair and if the house resettled, the repairs could actually be wasted as the house would no longer sit on the pilings.

Mr. Hargrave recommended five piers be placed beneath the chimney (as did our structural engineer) and suggested we could place an additional pier below the foundation due to a very slight slope in the corner where we were currently undergoing work for an erosion problem.  He also warned us that anytime piers were placed beneath a home to raise the level of the home, it could create cracks in the flooring and/or sheetrock.  We opted to go with the six piers as an added precaution at an additional cost of $450.  The job itself took a little more than 1/2 a day.  We were happy to learn that they reached bedrock within 6' to 7'.  They did raise the corner of our house - so that we had no slope.  Although we did have a few cracks appear in our tile and sheetrock - due to Mr. Hargrave's thoroughness, we knew that was a possibility, and much better than the possibility of our chimney falling on our neighbor's home!  We were very pleased with the information we gained from the experience and thought the job was professionally done.

This company is absolutely fantastic.  Highly recommended.  They came out in April of 2011 and said I just had some settling issues and gave me some recommendations to help.  But then came the great Texas drought, had them come out in July as it had gotten much worse.  They installed 8 piers, approximately 40 feet deep, average is 25 feet, had the job done in four or five hours.  Cleaned up and a day or two later came up and fixed all the cracks in the mortar.  I called them up after to let them know they missed one spot, not only did they fix that spot but they even fixed an area that was not related.

We were having issues with the windows and we wanted to make sure if it was the foundation or not.  They checked it and found no problems.

I know one of the owners of the company so I may be a little prejudice but they did excellent work. They gave me a little bit of a discount. They had plenty of workers and they got the job done in a day's time with a little touchup a day later. They were careful not to unnecessarily damage any shrubbery. They had to move one shrub that was partially already dead but they were careful with that. They cleaned up well and filled in all the holes. The price was reasonable and competitive. The method they used was probably better than some of the others I was told about. Once the work was scheduled, they were punctual.

I chose Hargrave based on their good reports from Angie's List.  They didn't  disappoint.  They were punctual, pleasant, and professional.  I would definitely use them again. They even managed to work me in earlier than originally planned.

Hargraves had to reschedule for a day later than previously agreed to (another job ran long) but this was not an inconvenience. Their crews arrived on time the following day, and did a very satisfactory job (digging, drilling, jacking, repairing nearby sprinkler lines, etc) They did a thorough job of recaulking the expansion joints and windows affected, redistributing dirt, replanting bushes and shrubs, repoured the aggregate patio that had been dug up, etc. Additionally, they had a separate plumbing company come out shortly afterward to inspect the integrity of the household plumbing and insure that it had not been negatively impacted by the foundation work.

Getting foundation repair is a painful experience, but Hargrave did a wonderful job of it and I would not hesitate to recommend them to anyone seeking such services.

In October of 2010 I had asked Hargrave, and some other companies,  to come out and give me an estimate for foundation work.  Dan Hargrave gave me an estimate, and while it wasn't the cheapest, I felt his professionalism was the best among the estimate representatives.  However I didn't get the work done because some other things came up, so that by the time July of 2011 rolled around, our house had cracks and doors that would not close.  By this time I'd been reading Angie's list and decided to get a structural engineer.  We hired Jim McNeme of Geodynamics.  He suggested the placement of the piers and gave us a report with all the information.  He also gave us a list of foundation companies, and I was so happy to see Hargrave's name on his recommended list.

We contacted Hargrave and they scheduled us for a Thursday/ Friday install.  On Thursday their crew showed up and began digging the holes and placing brackets.  They were very neat and dug up some shrubs as necessary.  We had a deck out back, and they had to cut into it in order to place brackets under part of the garage wall.  They finished installing approximately 17 piers on Thursday, and on Friday morning they finished the last two.  They also designed special brackets for a back porch slab that the prior homeowner had enclosed as a sunroom.  (They were the only company that addressed the back porch slab in my original set of estimates.  That was another reason that I liked them.)  Friday afternoon they coordinated with our structural engineer so that he could be on-site for the lifting.  Jim McNeme and Nick from Hargrave worked really well together and lifted our house to get it back into better alignment.  I was so pleased to be able to open and close doors again.

Friday afternoon the crew began filling in holes and replacing shrubs.  I felt they were very careful and considerate in doing that.  They also replaced the boards that they had to cut to access under the deck.

My only complaint in all of this was that I did not like the plumbing company, In-House plumbing,  that came out to do the foundation leak test. Apparently (which I didn't realize when they came) the leak test is complimentary (Hargrave isn't paying them) and that is all they will do. In-House plumbing found a very small leak and their plumber said it was an easy fix and I could fix it myself.  I'm not a plumber, and asked him could I pay him to fix it while he was here, and he told me no.   I called their office and asked could I reschedule with them, and they said yes, but that I would have to pay them for another water leak test.   That made me angry, and the owner ended up telling me that the fix was too complex and he did not want my business.  So I called another plumbing company (I have given them an A report) and they had the leak fixed in 15 minutes.   If I had to do it again I would request that Hargrave arrange the leak test with a different plumbing company.

All in all with Hargrave it was a very good experience.  I felt we were in good hands.

Response from Hargrave Home Repair Inc

"We were surprised to read this report. I cannot find anyone in our office that even remembers talking with this individual. I am wondering if she is confusing our company with another company that she may have talked to. While it is true that we would typically only give a "ballpark" bid based on an engineer's report (untill we have actually visited the house) it is NOT true that we do not give firm bids once we HAVE visited the house. It is our practice to give accurate bids and we do it all the time. There ARE some houses, typically involving INTERIOR pier placement where the thickness of the slab is not yet known, that we might have to give a price range on the work but, even then, the owner would know the maximum dollar amount that they might have to pay for the installation. It IS true that we are currently backed up quite a bit on estimate appointments. Due to the severly dry weather that we are all currently experiencing, there are a lot of foundation problems occuring right now and we regret that people are having to wait for appointments. But we do appreciate their patience. Our staff is working overtime to try to accommodate the many requests for appointments that we are currently receiving. Our company strives to be polite on the phone and provide excellent customer service and we have been doing this for the past 25+ years."

They were excellent. They were professional. They came and measured everything. They sent me an outline of what they proposed. They talked about couple of things. They wrote down the price. There were three different items. They sent me details of each thing that they would do and the cost of each thing. They arrived on time. The owner’s brother supervised the work. They did everything professionally. They were very neat. They came on time. I would use them in the future.
