RW Frederick used to be a great company. They have done work for me before with excellent results, but that is before they lost their crack technician, Jeff. The owner is Bob (Robert Frederick). ISSUE 1: Last winter, 2014, I had an issue with my furnace. I also had a charred AC disconnect box on the outside of the house that needed to be replaced. Bob sent Mike to do the repairs. The furnace was fixed and the AC disconnect was replaced. It turns out that Mike had put the original, burnt disconnect plug back into the box. This plug was burnt so bad that it was not making contact, hence the compressor would not turn on. The problem is that Mike didn't tell my about the bad part. If he didn't have a part 1.) he should have told me about it, and 2.) he should have procured one to be installed at a later date. But he did neither of these things. Very poor judgement demonstrating a serious character flaw on Mike's part. ISSUE 2: Summer 2014. This is a very long story, so I will condense it to the most pertinent facts. July 1- found water dripping from the evaporator coil down through the furnace onto the floor instead of through the drain pipe. Graham AC determined that the plastic tray under the coil was burnt and leaking due to a very hot furnace. The furnace and the tray needed to be replaced, but the coil was just 2 years old, so it could be reused. Graham could not do the work, so we invited RW Frederick to do it. July 2 and 3 ? RW Frederick (Bob) looked at the project and presented us with a bid. We agreed to his price. Bob said it would take a few days to order the parts. July 7 ? Bob and Mike replaced the old furnace and discovered that he had the wrong drain tray for the coils. He ordered the correct part from the manufacturer for "overnight shipment" but Bob said it would get here until July 9 to be installed July 10. This is "overnight shipment"? July 10 ? Bob installed the correct tray, charged the system and left. Did not even check the air coming out of the vents to see if it was cooling. And it was not. Not even one degree cooler than ambient temperature. July 11 ? Bob came back and discovered that the system was 2 pounds low on Freon. He installed the Freon. This time, I checked the air coming out of the vents, and it was now cooling. I asked Bob what was going to happen if we lost more Freon. He said that he was washing his hands of the deal. He was done. July 14 ? We had Graham AC come out to check the system and Bob's work. They found at least two Freon leaks at Bob's solder joints. July 15 ? Bob came back, this time with a sniffer, and found the leaking joints. After two tries, he finally fixed the bad joints. Total time in the house = one hour. July 16 through 18 - It appears that all is working now. We are checking the output air every day with an infrared temperature gun. Is the customer really supposed to do this? In summary: 1. It took 4 days to install a part that was allegedly shipped overnight. We were without air conditioning for four days. 2. Bob didn't check his work properly after he installed the evaporative coils and left the system 2 pounds low on Freon, resulting in a call-back. 3. Bob made at least two bad solder joints which allowed Freon to escape, resulting in a second call-back. 4. Bob (the owner) and Mike clearly do schlock work, and RW Frederick company needs to be investigated by the TDLR to see if they deserve to remain in business.
