He was a contractor for Sam's Club. I would have taken 8 years to install it because it came in a gazilion parts. He and his wife came. It was a very cold blustery day outside. They did a completely competent job. It was very complicated. They studied the diagram and did everything absolutely correctly. He left his card. I have a home repair coming up that I am going to call him about. He really knows what he is doing. Especially anything concerned with construction, assembly or installation. I would be more than willing to call him again. I probably will in a couple of months to do a repair to our closet.

We had some communication problems but when he came today, he did more than I ever anticipated and now my front and back yards look wonderful. He and his wife did an amazing amount of work in 3 hours. We communicated by email mostly and I think we'd have had less problems if I had used the phone to arrange things.

Started out decent, returned phone calls but once he started he wasn't honest or fair in his work or pricing.

"The customer was told I work by the hour...period...she responded with satisfaction after each and every assignment she gave me...the only time she "choked" was when it was time to pay.......then she let off her "steam" lets call a spade a spade.... on my second day of work i sensed "uneasiness" and asked her if she was pleased with the work...she said she was..... i wouldn't work for her again.."

As an Army wife whose husband is deployed, I am very careful about who I let in my home. I was confident that Daniel and his wife would be professional and handle my projects quickly and for a reasonable price and they certainly did not disappoint. However, I did not expect to find them so delightful to chat with! I highly recommend the Mejias for any project you might have; they are professional, punctual (even though Daniel helped fight a garage fire on the way to my house) and simply wonderful people. They deserve an A+ rating!

When I first called Daniel he spent 5 or 10 minutes explaining how he and his wife work. He explained:

1. What type of work they could perform
2. There schedule and when they could arrive on site
3. Little background on himself and wife
4. Price they charge to perform work (very reasonable at $25 per hour)

Before I hired him to do the job I had a little information on their background, their time schedule, the cost and was very pleased to get that all out front. Danie, throughout the job made recommendation and gave tips on the home and repairs (which were very good tips). If Daniel spent time talking to you he did not bill you for the conversation only for time worked performed. He was at my home for 5 1/2 hours and only charged $100. He was very helpful and helped identify the switches on my fuse box (identified which switch went to which room in the house...Now I have my fusebox labeled).

I would highly recommend Daniel for Home repairs and more. I have put his number in my cell for quick reference when I need help or if a friend needs help. Daniel is very dependable and reliable....

I got him off of Angie's List. He said that it was usually he and his wife, but his wife had gone out of town and it was he who came by to do the job. I had bought some appliances. He did a really good job. The stove, microwave, dishwasher and the refrigerator were all stainless steel. He took his time. He made sure I had manuals from all the appliances and showed me how he was going to do it. I had an agreement with what his plans were and how he was hooking it up. He was punctual and showed up when he was supposed to. He was very professional with his work. I was really pleased with his work. I would definitely use him again in the future.

I had to find someone new and had just wasted several days I did not have. I do not know, if he didn't know how to do the things on my list: (hang an inside door and replace molding and door jam on another door). Perhaps there was a bigger job he had been offered. I know there are always two sides to a story, but I hope my next experience with Angie's List will be better.

"due to circumstances beyond my control i was not able to meet the verbal commitment .....i called as soon as i was able to recognize that i was not going to be able to do THIS project....i appologized for the inconvience, as the problem on my end was unforeseen.....the problem was not another job."

Overall I was pleased with the work. Everything on my list was accomplished. The price discussed was paid. He and his assistant (wife) were on time and were both friendly and easy to talk to. I enjoyed watching them work, they asked questions about what I wanted and other suggestions that I might not have thought of. My list of work was minor and not of a professional nature, like cement work. He did tell me he would not tackle that job. I appreciate his honesty. He has his own way of working, did not do one job first, another one next etc... He did complete what I needed done. I will get another list together and call on him again when I need small stuff accomplished.

One Palm tree was trimmed as stated but the other two were not. My cousin had to get angry for Mr. Mejia to stay and at least trim the other two Palms that were supposed to have been done within the 6 hours as stated. By the way, his saw or chain broke. He does not have the professional tools to do the job as is required. He is a nice man, hard worker, but does not do as he is contracted. We corrected that he came in on time to give his estimate on Saturday the 12th of March. Then he arrived at the address on Friday March the 18th on time.
Response from Daniel Mejia Handyman

"with regard to the the chain saw, all tools need to be serviced, usually on site, the chain saw worked until it jumped the chain about 0300 in the afternoon.....which required a mandatory re tasking of work to accomplish the ultimate. goal.. , The cousin showed me a wood chipper that was to be used on site to dispose of the palm branches, therefore eliminating any need to take any material to the citizens collection center or dump.....Three full trailer loads of material were collected, loaded and hauled away to the dump on the work.. day....due to the fact that the wood chipper was not functional and needed further servicing,(in this case the rebuilding of the carburetor on a briggs and stratton engine.) this extra time disposing works against the pruning time allotted for the project and changed the whole dynamic of the project.....I always indicate that i allocate TIME (12 man hours) to the project, not necessarily project completion. for $XX.XX.....If i could guess and foretell the future i would be rich and not need to work in real time required and deal with people that only hear what they want to hear.. It seemed perfectly clear to me that the cousin that contacted me was well aware of my terms to . come a perform the palm tree service on a time /material basis and not on a project completion basis.... The whole event began to deteriorate about the time that mini agreements relative to time remaining for the day and work performed that the cursing began to accuse me of misrepresenting my labor dedicated to the project.... I did not work for Member the person that is acting as a third party intermediary and who wrote this post ..... Member was not there nor have i talked with her or met her...Member posted this post based on third party hearsay..from her cousin. ... the cousin was required to go to the dump to present her drivers license and water bill to the managing authorities,,,,,the trash came from her property, i just hauled it for her.....I cannot enter the dump site with other trash than my own personal trash....There was also extra trash not related to the project that was taken to the dump site at the request of the cousin. re, the cousin working on her own property....I never requested help from the cousin, and it is not my position to ask anyone what they are doing on there own property... there were no extra charges made on that day. the cousin again must have been hard of hearing... I only suggested another time period to come back another day,,,,, BE ADVISED I WILL NOT EVER WORK FOR THIS PARTY EVER AGAIN"

Nice man and wife. If you hire them understand that 12 hours is for Mr. and Mrs, each working 6 hours. They are on time but will leave exactly at the 6 hour mark. He can do more work than she does for the time and amount spent per hour but I think overall over priced. I hesitated to write a review but its snowing today and I am angry that my doors do not have weatherstripping as I had contracted for him to do. I have been busy with a sick daughter so I have not had time to take care of this. That is why I hired a handyman, to help with what I could not get to. So today I have snow piled inside my french doors!
Response from Daniel Mejia Handyman

"after i suggested pressure washing the area rug ( she also said it was of mininum value to her) she agreed to pressure washing the rug. The rug was not left outside at the end of the day. i dont recall exactly how many doors,12 if memory serves, had the old weather strip removed, sized and fitted. Julie was given the option of us sanding the doors or to just touch them up. I would have gladly sanded the doors, which can take considerable amount of time. The doors were damaged by large dogs scratching and gouging the doors. Julie agreed to the touch up. no mention of repairs in the bathroom was made on this commentary. no mention of a make shift, functioning repair to her non funcioning ignitor on the kitchen stove.... she was extatic for the cost saver....."

Initially informed me that he was available only Fri and Saturday, as he was going to start another job on Monday. He and assistant worked Fri, removed paneling in den and then was scatter-brained and going on to assign himself other tasks that were not initially assigned and failed to stay focused on the initial assignements. Worked all day the first day, and I checked in over the course of the day (I'm not living there now) and the assistant was beginning on removing the paneling from the dining area in the morning. By later afternoon, she was still in the same place in the dining area. They left Friday, didn't show up Saturday, so I removed the paneling in the den. It took me all of TWENTY MINUTES. He showed up on Sunday for about two hours and removed some of the solar panels, broken glass left on the grass, debris left on the roof. Trash and debris left everywhere, scattered about, in contrast to the wood floor tech and the painter, who, although they were not finished and would continue to return for several weeks, clean up everyday and are extremely organized and clean. I was lied to. I can let pass a lot of things, but once you lie to me, that's it, it is over. I not so much upset at Mejia and his assistant, I'm upset at myself for not going with my instincts when I first me him. I knew something wasn't right. He charges $300.00 for a day and $180.00 for half a day. I didn't quarrel with him about the charges as I just wanted to be rid of him. If a man is not reliable, he is not worth having around. I cannot recommend him. In fact, truth be known, most of the services available or accessed through Angie's list have not been very good, in my experience. This was no exception.
Response from Daniel Mejia Handyman

"what is not mentioned about the panel removal is that great care was exercsised in the removal of the trim,(expensive) in order to have is available for future painting, use etc....thursday i positioned my trailer on site for garbage disposal and was removed on sunday after other material was hauled off without consulting me as to the the nature of material that was left outside, staged, (for loading purposes). His wife was concerned about having an electrical 220 outlet repositioned to another wall. we discussed the options and i heard nothing else on the matter. She also asked to remove a 40' section of gas line that was feeding the fireplace. work performed satisfactorily....she asked me to remove and dispose of a light fixture from the living room. done. what is not mentioned is that i also removed a large bar 9' long by 2' 6" wide by 40 high, work accomplished without collateral damage.. two wall shelves, fixed to the wall were removed without collateral damage..... another cabiner with sink , (including removal of associated plumbing ) was removed without collateral damage....paneling in converted garage was also removed without collateral damage. all hardware associated with any electical, drapes, door hardware etc, was miticulously removed and stored for future reinstallment..... solar water heater , three 3 x 8 foot panels and associated materials were removed from the roof and disposed of. i figure about 20 hours of labor went into this small project, which is probably why he paid me without any hesitation.... ps notice how he is not happy with any of angies list people, pps i had not finished my work when he said we were not to return to trim a bush that was growing into the house , he never commented and said he was dissatisfied with any of the progress that was accomplised during the project, the member was also informed that though i was available on saturday i also told him that i prefer not to work on SHABBAT and opted to work on sunday which i did,,,, the member did not notice or comment on that i had help from my brother and his friend in order to remove the large bar. ( considerable heavy) to expedite the neatness factor and disposal factor...i also had help on sunday with the lowering of the solar panel from the roof (safety issues) he got a pretty good deal for the amount of work actually accomplised. he even got the gas line capped properly when this was not a part of the original project.. and yes i did not finish removing the wall paper in the bathroom.....maybe i was scatterbrained......the member not recognizing the method of MY madness ."

He's very good. The plants are all cactus and they are all brutal and he did a really good job with them. He was here for a good 5-6 hours. He's really dependable and he communicates well with the home owner. He's responsive to your requests and he continuously gives you feed back as you're talking to him. He's real knowledgeable and communicates really well with the home owner. Some providers don't communicate well and tell you what the ramifications of your decisions are, with Daniel it's really good. I told him what I needed and he gave me some input that was really valuable. He's a good guy. He was here when he said he would be and he called when he said he would, I really appreciate that. We will be hiring him for more work eventually.

Mr. Mejia did not explain that 12 hours of repair work included his wife's time so when they left at 2:00, jobs were not done and my understanding that he would work 2 6 hour shifts for $300 was that the 2 shifts included him and his wife. THey both were very nice but the work his wife did was not equal to what he did so I feel as though I overpaid. Also, he asked me to make a list and sent me out to Home Depot to buy a long list of materials. He was not able to finish the list and I had a lot of items that I had not intended to spend money on this month so I overspent my budget. ALso, at promplty 2:00, they were packing up their things to leave but my area rug was still in the driveway, weatherstripping scraps and trash were still all scattered in my halls, no clean up. I also was told they could clean carpets but in reality, its not a carpet cleaner but a pressure washer they use to clean area rugs so the rug took time to dry. They did help me move the rug back into my dining room but only because I asked them to do so. Communication as to exactly what will be done, in how much time and price needed to be more clear. Also, I judge a constuction site by clean up as I am an architect so leaving a mess was a disapointment. Last, my faucet stopped leaking for about two days but is back to dripping again so that was not correctly fixted. I have to complete the weatherstripping because they were not able to finish in the time they allotted. My oven door is great, working perfect.

He was horrible. I had to have the entire job he did redone by someone else. I was not happy with him at all. He was not good at all. I first rated him good. He had asked me to refer him to others. At that time it had not occurred to me that he had done such a poor job. What he did was horrifying. He had left everything exactly where it was. He had just stripped the work and not done anything. I had to put packing tape on that. I wish I could have looked at the work he did before writing about him. He acted to be quite good. I had some pretty doors in the laundry cabinet. I did not want to get rid of them and his wife was able to get them all working correctly. His wife did some work but he did not. I am not happy with him at all. I would never recommend him for any work. I want everybody to know that he is not worth anything. I would ask others not to hire him at all. He does extremely poor work and it was stupid of me to rate him high earlier. I would rate him D only because of the work his wife did if not I would rate him F. He was good on punctuality.

The main task I wanted done was to paint a bedroom and replace the outlets throughout the house. Daniel and his wife started promptly at 8:30 AM and continued throughout the day until all that could be finished was, at 7:30 PM. The only thing that was not finished was the door because they had to wait until the varnish was dry before putting the lock back on. Overall I am very happy and will always call on them for any job I need done on my home and will only look elsewhere if they tell me that they are not able to do it.
