If you are ever in an accident, the Hertz main office is not going to want to back you up. If you are in an accident, beware as they are not going to want to cover anything if they can help it. Nobody wanted to give us any money to fix our car.
The place where we took the car to be fixed, Santa Cruz Autobody were terrific. When they took the bumper off, they realized there was a lot more damage. They said you really shouldn't drive the car. It was a nightmare.. I faxed an initial estimate to the insurance company. they also arranged for a rental.
They never returned any of my calls. They were only happy talking to the Santa Cruz Auto company. They sent the estimate to the Hertz folks for the car damage and initially the Hertz folks said they would sent out an appraiser, the women on the phone was very vague. Hertz said there was a lot of damage to the car that was unrelated to the accident due to the fact the report said there was hidden damage.
The Hertz folks were trying to say they were not responsible for it due to the wording of the report. The claims representative believed the damage was done by a different accident. 30 days after the accident, they sent out an assessor. They refused to cover us. They said we needed to file a claim with our own insurance company and they would go through a process called arbitrage. I called my insurance company and within two days they wrote me a cheque for the full amount of the car. Farmers paid me 8000. Hertz only offered me 700 dollars. Santa Cruz Auto did not bill me as they were sorry for all the trouble we went through. They took off the bumper, made loads of phone calls and wound up not being paid for anything. Farmers are going to try to get their money back from Hertz as well as the 90 dollars I paid for the rental car.
Hertz has set themselves up with two separate corporations, one for their rental and one for their insurance company. I returned the car and they said they would not cover it after two days. I never heard from them again, until I got a 90 dollar charge on my credit card. I told them that they should have sent me a detailed bill. To charge someone without sending them a bill is poor. An insurance company runs into your car and then they want to charge you insurance while you get your car repaired. They said it was their policy and they are not going to do anything about it. They should cover that. I will not use them again in the future.
