John showed up on time, but he was dishonest, unprofessional, and abrasive. John confirmed that my problem was a bad solenoid, but he continued on to explain a different issue that I was not having and went into detail about how expensive it could have been. He also emphasized that I have a top notch system when in reality it is a common Rain Bird system. It was obvious he had mistaken me for a naïve resident in a decent neighborhood and that I was getting primed for the "good" news. I was evaluating the system as he finished talking and I must not have responded to him quickly enough because he smugly commented, "It is not that complicated, buddy". He maintained an attitude as if he had superior intelligence through the entire experience. John knocked on the door after replacing the solenoid and informed me that the solenoid was in fact the only problem and that he was double checking the system. I immediately asked him what everything was going to cost and that is when he broke down my bill. He told me the price of the part and I immediately became suspicious. $125 for a solenoid seemed pretty high from my past experience. He told me it was a Rain Bird solenoid so I looked at Rain Bird's website and located the price for their solenoid, $25.94. I called Mustang's office to discuss the price that John was quoting me for the solenoid and I was told they mark parts up 100% based on their cost. The problem was that they were charging me a 500% mark up. I agree that profits have to be made and marking up parts plays a vital role in accomplishing that, but price gouging and an employee blatantly lying to customers is not ethical. I started recording video on my phone when John had turned his back to me and refused to respond. He started giving me the silent treatment in response to my request for an accurate bill, including the 100% mark up for the part. I asked John for specifics about the solenoid that he had installed, but he refused to give me any information other than the brand insisting on the fact it was a special solenoid. John went on to say, "you're lucky we didn?t charge you four or five times our cost. That's what I did when I worked for other companies" and "I'll be honest with you, we aren't cheap". I also have him on camera telling me, "you're arguing with the wrong guy". I was not sure if his comment was intended to be a threat or not, but I immediately ended the conversation and paid him so he would just leave. He was angry that I had called his employer to question his price of the part. After John left I looked at the solenoid and confirmed it was in fact the one anyone can pick up for $25.94, before any contractor's discounts. The truth was that he did charge me the 500% mark-up he had told me that I should be grateful for not having to pay.

McKinney Owner/GM"
"[member name removed]: You have the best review of our company! This shows a LONGGGGGGGG track record that has been consistant for a long time! You have been a loyal customer and that says alot. We have over 25,000 customers and in business for over 24 years... coming up to the BIG 25 in 2015!!! I really appreciate you taking the time to come back and write this review on our company. Best Regards, Shafford E. McKinney Owner/GM"
"I can appreciate a review with truths. I cannot except this man's review on several accounts. The man called into our office several times trying to "negotiate" how we would operate in working for him on his property. One thing we never do is... NEGOTIATE! We have been in business over 24 years, have over 25,000 customers, we run 5-6 trucks everyday, A+ ACCEDITED BUSINESS with the BBB for over 20years and we PRIDE ourselves on treating ALL customers the same... YES, the SAME! In reading his review, I have to chuckle based on some of his accounts of what was said and what actually happened. First of all, he was not speaking with the owner of Mustang, he was speaking with the Office Manager. He was very concerned with "costs", so we allowed him to go purchase his own parts (valves and valve boxes) to save him some money. He was also told, there is never a warranty on any of his parts that would be installed. He says we would "cover all the rest of the parts needed to install his valves that he bought". He said we would send a truck and had everything else covered... I have to ask... WHO DOES THIS MAKES SENSE TOO??? The "hidden Worksheet" he mentions is used on EVERY SINGLE SERVICE CALL to show the customer how their amount being invoiced was calculated! If you call our office anytime for a service call... we are CLEAR and make sure every customer is told the SAME thing...it is a broken record when calling Mustang Contracting Services of Dallas, Inc. I can promise anyone reading this response... you are reading the words from the Owner/GM of Mustang Contracting Services of Dallas, Inc., my name is Shafford E. McKinney... you have my reviews to go back and read and responses to each one of them. We have not, will not , and refuse to treat customers different from the next person. You can take that to the bank! There are NO surprises when dealing with my company! Best Regards, Shafford E. McKinney Owner/GM"
"Thanks you for taking the time to give your honest review. We did not ask you to review your experience, so it means leaps and bounds to us for this review! Look forward to serving you, your family, friends, and co-workers you refer us to based on how you were treated. My promise to you and all of our customers... always make you look good when you feel confident enough to refer our services! Best Regards, Shafford E. McKinney Owner/GM"
"Thanks for taking the time to review your experience. We look forward to serving you in the future! This shows just how much we take care of our clients... the owner, himself, shows up and takes care of his company's duties when needed:) Regards, Shafford E. McKinney Owner//GM"
"[member name removed]: Thanks for the review. Your grading has me a little puzzled. Punctuality was a "B" yet we did a "2 hour job in exactly 2 hrs". As far as the price grade of a "C", we are always upfront with our prices, as we tell you over the phone on the initial call how and what we charge. Simply put... where are a Time and Materials type of company. I would anticipate your using our company in the future and we look forward to serving you! Hope the next review is all "A's"... that is what we strive for everytime out. You taking the time to give your review is huge and very thoughtful... but with over 25,000 customers and over 23 years of serving DFW...one thing holds true...rest assured... EVERYONE gets treated the same. God Bless, Shafford E. McKinney Owner/GM"

"Member: Your comments can really be a two way street... Without clients like you, we are not able to show our expertise and without service companies like Mustang, our clients would not feel comfortable when there is work been preformed at thier house! Yes, I did say "comfortable"! I can only say, we treat ALL customers the same. No matter where you live, what color your skin is, what political party, or tax bracket...the same. We pride ourselves in this. We have over 24,000 customers and have been in business since 1990. We are blessed to have you as a very satisfied client and look forward to serving you for a very long time. May God bless you, Member:)"
"Member: When it comes to customer retention and loyalty, you are at the top! Thanks so much for the kind words you have written...unsolicited:) For you to take the time to do this...it means the world to us. You can rest assured when you refer Mustang to your family, friends, and co-workers, that they will be treated just as you have been treated for years. I like to tell people, "we are a broken record"... "we treat everyone the exact same". I go to bed every night, knowing, everyone is treated the exact same! Again, thank you so much for taking the time to post an "unsolicited" reference for the Angie's List followers! Best regards, Shafford McKinney Owner/GM"
"Consumers...beware. This customer is one that seems to think that getting on a website and bashing an A+ rated business with the BBB and has over 24,000 customers, which has been in business over 22 years, does damage to a reputation that spands over two decades of taking care of people. Upon further review of her property after seeing this, her bushes were dead before we got there, after we got there, and to this day, are still dead. Please disregard this review...it is baseless."
"Thanks so much for taking the time to voice your experience with our company! It is client's like you that make it worth staying in business! 98% of our over 20,000 customers think we are the best. Please pass our name to any family or friends and we'll treat them the same way. Regards, Shafford E. McKinney Owner/GM"
"Once again, the typical Mustang customer is one that appreciates good, solid work for a fair price. This member has been a customer since June of 2010. He is considered a new client. He was not requested to give this review, he did this on his own! I thank God for clients like him. It is a pleasure to serve clients like him."
"In response to this potential customer... I first would like to apologize for the unresponsiveness you had recieved. That is not the normal way our clients are treated. When it comes down to getting estimates, I can only say that we treat everyone the same. The estimator that you pulled over on the side of the street, Richard, no longer is employeed by Mustang. He has not been with Mustang since May 2011. I always tell people to call into our office to schedule appointments or to make initial contacts through our office to make sure they get proper deligation. Again, I apoligize for the treatment you recieved by our former Estimator. I can guarantee that we have not been in business for over 22 years and having an A+ Accredited Business rating with the BBB by treating people this way. I find it hard to believe the numbers you were quoted, were numbers that would be on a computer generated proposal. They sound way off base and I can only hope, you misunderstood what he was trying to explain to you. For anyone who reads this, please look at our other ratings... as of today, they are ALL A's. We look forward to ALL opportunities and we have a motto @ Mustang Contracting Services of Dallas, Inc. ... Everyone gets treated the same! Give us a try, and see if what I say is not the case! Thanks for reading this response. Shafford E. McKinney -Owner/GM"
"Again...it's customers like this Member that keep us in business! We are very blessed to have the customers we have. Member, thanks for the kind words and the positive feedback."
"I have to answer this member's comments...this is the first time I have seen anyone give a report on Angie's List. I have looked at the invoice and it did say that we repaired electrical issues, repaired a leak, and replaced heads as needed, which included a full system check. This is a normal service call for our company and the customer never called in to complain that his system was not repaired properly. If a customer has a problem with our company, it usually is with the price they have to pay to repair "their" system. We treat ever customer the same! No matter what part of town, what color of skin, or what car they drive...I have built an A+ Rated Accredited Business with the BBB over the last 20+ years. We have over 16,000 customers in DFW. By looking at this customers rating...it looks like he did not like the price and that is what he is upset about. We strive to treat everyone with professionalism and respect. Electrical problems can be very easy or can be very time consuming. If systems are installed properly, we would not be needed as much! The older the system...the more work we will have to do. The systems that are "maintained" properly, the less money it costs to repair. Just to let you know, a typical service call is $150-$250. This was over a "normal" service call because of the electrical problems. Please read all of the reports on our company before forming an opinion!"
"What a blessing to have customers to take the time to give positive feed back! It's customers like this member, that make up our over 16,000 customers in the DFW area. This is the way we run our business. Thanks, Member!"
