My wife watches our 70" Sharp Aquos LCD TV constantly, because it is her primary entertainment, due to medical problems that limit her, and sometimes awakens her at night. Early Monday morning she went to turn the set on and it had no picture or sound - just a flashing white icon in the bottom frame of the set - like an upside down "V". The set was totally unresponsive. When I awakened a bit later, and tried to fix the problem, I found that the remote control had no effect on the TV - even if you unplugged the set and then plugged it back in. All I got was that flashing light. A call to Sharp Customer Service failed to solve the problem and they recommended I contact the Sharp TV authorized service center in Dallas for a repair visit, even though it was out of warranty (2 years old). That center was H&H Electronics (who also provide warranty repairs for many other brands). I called at 9:05AM and the repairman was at my home a little over 2 HOURS later (on the opposite side of the DFW area from their shop!) How is that for responsive? - under 2.5 hours, same day!!! He knew exactly what the problem was, which was essentially the need for a reset of the computer firmwear that operates the LCD lights - apparently they occasionally get a hitch in their system at start up, for no apparent reason, and the computer shuts the set down as a precaution. (Sharp does not even mention that problem in their User Manual! ) By running a diagnostic program and doing some setting changes in a sequential menu in the set, he was able to reset it and it worked perfectly. He did not try to con me into believing it needed a mystery part, and he explained to me exactly what caused the problem and how it was fixed purely from an internal service menu that Sharp likes to keep secret from us mere mortals. I was astounded at how quickly H&H responded to my call for service, and how up front and honest they were with me, and how quickly he fixed the problem. This will be the company I deal with for any future TV repairs for sure, especially knowing that they are authorized and trained to handle any major TV brand on the market. The service call was a bit pricey, but he probably spent an hour and a half on the road driving to and from our home, so I have no quarrel with that. In summary, this company is fantastic, honest, and a class act!
