Our neighbors selected Cowboy Fence to replace their fence, and I agreed to go in with them to replace the section of fence between our two houses (which is technically my side of the fence to replace). It wasn't good timing for us for a lot of reasons, but I went ahead with it because I knew my neighbors really needed to replace their section and wanted the section on my side to match. Kyle (the owner) came to my house the morning they were going to begin the work to explain everything. My neighbor generously offered to pay for a portion of my side of the fence, and Kyle said that he would get back to me with what they costs would be for my portion a little while later, but they were going to go ahead and start with my neighbors two fence sections. I asked him in addition to the estimate for the shared section of fence if he could also provide an estimate to install a gate on the side of my house and the back section of my fence as well so that the rest of my fence would match the new section. He said he would get back to me later in the day with some options for the gate, and the estimate for the fence. We discussed how the fence would be reinstalled, he made some recommendations on some issues that we had with the fence being too close to my AC units, and then he left and his guys got to work. I assumed that he would get right back to me with the estimate BEFORE they started on my section of the fence. Nope. They tore the entire fence down that morning. I wasn't too thrilled that my fence was being torn down without knowing how much it would be to replace. As an added bonus, they tore down a section of fence that wasn't supposed to be replaced that had shelves and an irrigation system where I keep potted plants. They did "repair" the sprinkler that they damaged, but didn't replace the shelves. Long story short, his guys didn't do the job as discussed. I tried pointing out things they were doing wrong a couple of different times, but realized that they weren't doing what I was asking because their English comprehension skills were limited. They were just nodding their heads like they were going to do it. After a couple of calls with Kyle and discussion with an English-speaking foreman he sent out, he finally came out himself on the last day. He agreed that his team didn't do what we had discussed, but recommended leaving it (said he wouldn't charge for the parts they messed up) and said that they could push my AC units back so that there was enough room between them and the fence for someone to get in there and repair them. He never pushed the units back. I also asked for my estimate while he was out there and said he hadn't gotten to it yet because he was so busy, but would bring it by the next day. I never heard from him again. The work he did seemed to be OK, but he was totally unprofessional and his communication skills were terrible. The things that went wrong with the job didn't have to if he had just communicated better with myself and his crew. I was extremely frustrated with the extreme lack of communication and follow through. He should have never started this work without providing me with a written estimate, and at a minimum, when a homeowner calls you out for this and doing the job wrong, you should just fix it. He also shouldn't have started this job without better planning on my side. He should have made a visit to my side of the yard prior to starting the work and not waited until the morning he started the job to assess the situation on my side. He should have allowed more time to discuss the issues that tearing down the fence would create on my side, and how to solve for them BEFORE creating problems that didn't need to occur (like damaging my mosquito system that ran along the backside of the fence). While I think the work they did seems to be of good quality, I'm not happy with the finished product for one simple reason. It's not what I asked for. A little bit of planning and communication goes a long way.

Kyle was very thorough, detailed and responsive at all times from the time he wrote the estimate to the final walk through to make sure I was happy.  The final bill was the exact price as the original estimate.  I received four estimates and his bid was the cheapest.  I had to wait about six weeks for them to get started due to their workflow but they ended up starting on the exact date he gave me.  The job was completed within 5 days like they estimated.  We had multiple walkthroughs to make sure I was happy and they even came back a couple weeks later to help me program the gate remotes again.  I was very happy with the overall experience and I would use Cowboy again as well as recommend them to others.

Response from COWBOY FENCE & IRON CO

"[member name removed] looking over our phones notes which we keep on file. I am not seeing your name or any information. If it was something we were going to be unable to help you with we would have still given you a courtesy call back and advised you. I apologize for the confusion. Our company thrives as you can see with our reviews in being responsive."

We found Cowboy Fence and Iron online because there was a gate pictured on their website that was exactly what we wanted. We called Kyle, the owner, and he came over a couple days later to give us an estimate. My husband and I both felt very comfortable with everything he proposed, so we hired him for the job.
There was a little misunderstanding/miscommunication when scheduling the job... a couple times they told us a date and then never got back to us, so we weren't sure if they would be showing up that day or not. A little annoying, but probably common with jobs like this. Eventually things got ironed out and they did show up first thing one morning to start the job. The gate was installed over the course of the morning and the workers were gone by 1pm.
We love the gate. It is beautiful, strong and very professionally done. The only little hiccup in the process was with the remotes. When Kyle came for the estimate, he told us he could give us remotes that could be programmed to open both our garage and our new gate, but when they brought remotes the day of the work, the remotes were only for the gate. I questioned Kyle about this and he said they could get some of the other type for us and then program them. He even came over and looked at our garage opener so that he could be sure to order the right type. Then nothing happened for three weeks. I called many times and left messages, talked to the office manager and talked to Job Supervisor Michael. Every time I was assured they would pick up the remotes and bring them over shortly. It was frustrating for us because while we loved our gate, we couldn't properly enjoy it without the remotes - my husband couldn't bring the remote that we had to work because we didn't know what day they would show up to exchange them for the new ones. We felt like we were being ignored since we had already paid and the main part of our job was complete. Finally, over three weeks after the initial installation, Michael came over to exchange and program our new remotes.
In conclusion... our gate is wonderful and we are glad we chose Cowboy Fence and Iron for the work. However, we were a little disappointed with some lack of communication and slowness completing the final details. But in the end everything was completed to our satisfaction.

The best thing about these guys is that they immediately came back after I called them to adjust a problem, no questions asked, no extra fees. Very responsive, no excuses, excellent service. I feel very comfortable about working with this company again.

I left a message on their voicemail briefly stating the desired work along with my name and phone number. After not hearing back, I called again two days later and spoke to their scheduler. I told her what I wanted an estimate on and she scheduled a noon appointment the following Tuesday. I made sure I was home and no one showed up nor did they call. I phoned them after waiting for twenty minutes and got the voicemail. I said I was waiting but to forget it if they couldn't come in the next ten minutes as I had to leave.

This was yesterday and they never did call either to explain or apologize. After reading such glowing reviews, I was very disappointed by this experience. I can only conclude that my project of a wrought iron gate and small fencing was not big enough for them to consider. I wish they had told me up front if that was the case and I wouldn't have wasted the time to be at home during a workday waiting for them to show up.

Kyle Wright, the owner, was very responsive from the very beginning. When we called him he arranged a site visit within a few days, asked many questions and knew more about fencing than anyone we've interviewed - ever. He had many good, creative ideas to address our unique issues and problems and was straightforward in his explanations of our options. We met with 4 other fencing companies and Kyle was heads and shoulders above the rest in terms of knowledge, creativity, responsiveness, and apparent honesty. He understood we were in a holding pattern, due to city issues with other neighbors but that when we were ready to move on the job we wanted to move quickly so as not to leave our yard exposed to an open alley. When the time came for us to do the fencing he was quite responsive in accommodating our schedules and needs and was EXTREMELY sensitive to making sure our yard was safely secured for our dogs as well as our neighbors' dogs at the end of each day. His employees were personable, polite, and eager to please. Kyle was extremely personable and pleasant - I wish ALL service providers would be this easy! Can't possibly think of enough good things to say about Kyle. He is very straightforward and seems to be a man of integrity. My list of fencing companies is now a short ONE - Cowboy Fencing and Iron.

I called Kyle on Wednesday to award him the job and he said he would be able to start the project in about 10 days. However, he called me on Friday and said another project got delayed and wanted to begin work on my fence the next Monday. His guys arrived at my house at 8 AM Monday morning as expected. They took down my old fence in about 15 minutes. Kyle, the job foreman, and I discussed the project in detail and Kyle did a good job making sure he understood what I wanted and explaining what the end product would look like. We also discussed the front swing gate and Kyle realized the repair was going to be more involved than he originally thought. He asked me to only pay for the additional labor to fix the gate correctly (a nominal amount) which was fair.

On the way back from picking up the fence material they got a flat tire and they also had to get a replacement air compressor since their original stopped working on the first day which both delayed the project. These issues were out of Kyle's control and he communicated with me as he worked through these issues. The guys working on the fence seemed very skilled and worked very quickly. They welcomed me when I wanted to inspect their work and were happy to discuss any issues I had.

The foreman reviewed the work with me on the final day and I asked for some small issues to be corrected. They were all fixed that day. Additionally, they added a wooden step going into the alley at no charge. I actually noticed one small issue after they completed the project and I gave Kyle the final payment. They came back the next day and quickly corrected the issue.

I got the impression Kyle and his team just wanted to make me happy. Kyle is very easy to work with, communicates well, and seems trustworthy. I would use Cowboy Fence again and also recommend them to friends.

He was incredibly fair with his pricing compared to the other estimates we received. His follow-through was amazing. He came back after the installation to ensure we were able to program the gate and operate it. It happened that we had another service provider at our house at the same time. He patiently waited while I finished and even played goalie with our 14-month old baby who was running all over the back yard! Such a friendly guy and I honestly can't say enough good things about Kyle and his company.

Cowboy Fence and Iron did a great job on this work. They completed everything in one day, including new electrical and all cleanup. Kyle (owner) came back a week later for final inspection/payment. I'm very, very happy with the finished product!

I received an initial estimate several months before deciding to go for the work. My initial impression was that the bid was high. I spoke with Kyle about it and he provided me with a detailed break down of the costs. A large factor related to the price was the fact that the fence proposed had 'the works' including base board, top board, pre-dipped cedar which is what i wanted. I did request some additional proposals and Cowboy's ended up being priced on the competitive end of the spectrum. I finally decided to go ahead with the work. The crew did an excellent job and Kyle checked in on the work several times. The job took 5-6 hours. The fence looks great! I'm very happy with it. I also used Cowboy to put in a swing gate last spring (4/2008) and they did excellent work then too. I highly recommend their work.

This price was in the range of the estimates I was receiving and included board on board, removal and haul away of old fence, top cap, #1 cedar, heavy gage metal poles, However there were two deal breakers. This company did not stain the fence and you had to go with their pre-dipped option for $600 or do without. Second, the owner was not aware that you do need a building permit to erect an 8 foot fence in Dallas. I ended up going with a company that provided all the bells and whistles, just under 4K.

The project went very smoothly. It was so easy because this company knew just what to do. They are extremely professional and I never doubted their integrity. They pre measured for the welded gates. The pickets and materials were delivered the day before the job. They built the gate in one day. Everything was level and finished off perfectly. They also tied the fence into the exterior structure nicely.

Kyle came to our house and gave us some good ideas and very competitive quote for our gate installation. He returned a following week-end to help answer some of my husband's questions. He was very helpful, knowledgeable and wasn't pushy for the job. He gave us references and also addresses of recent jobs for us to have a look at. Once we decided to go ahead with the job he scheduled us for around 2 weeks out and kept us informed of any date changes (dues to bad weather). The day the gate was installed went very smoothly and Kyle's team were very professional and did a great job. Kyle made sure we were satisfied with the work before he asked for his final payment. I feel comfortable he would be very responsive should we need any help with the gate or have any questions in the future.

Kyle is a super nice, friendly contractor who is interested in providing a quality product to his customer. He really wants to please and if something isn't right, he will re-do it until you are totally satisfied! His fences are some of the best looking ones in Dallas(in our opinion)and we admired one he did for our neighbors. This fence was done in tandem with our neighbors and Kyle is very good at working with people to negotiate for everyone's happiness. We think his prices are totally fair, considering the high quality he provides. He is always in touch with you and comes by frequently to check on his crew. We would definitely use him again and recommend him to everyone. Kyle's pleasant personality makes him a delight to deal with. Our backyard has never looked better than it does now with our new fence!
