I called Bayard on 02/07/13 to ask if they could clean an older Sony DVD player/changer and what do they charge to do that. They responded 'yes' they can clean the unit and the charge would be $85.00 plus tax. I took the unit to their shop (was told they are no longer on Alder Cir. in Dallas but now on Beltline Rd. in Richardson). Their shop is now in the back of a second-hand furniture store. I was told I would have to pay the cleaning charge up-front, which was OK with me. I paid $86.50 and was told they will call me when the technician gets into it. On 02/11/13 I was away from the house most of the day, but my wife took the call from Sam (the technician) mid-afternoon describing the 'hesitation' in the unit and the inability to get the repair part. My wife was told the unit was ready to be picked up but no indication of any extra charges. On 02/12/13, I called Bayard to confirm that the unit was ready to be picked up but did not ask about any extra charges based upon the message from my wife from previous day. Mid-afternoon I arrived at Bayard's shop and was told that the balance of the charge was $59.58 with the only explanation for the additional charge was for 'chemicals' (the final invoice reflects $9.95 for chemicals and materials, so I must conclude the remainder was 'labor'). I asked why the technician did not tell my wife of the additional charge, the response was "he should have told her". When I protested the charge, the lady behind the counter said I could leave the unit and they would try to sell it to recover their cost of repair. At that point there seemed to be no choice but to pay the additional $59.58 to re-claim the unit. I was lied to initially over the phone about the cleaning charge, lied to (by omission) when the technician talked to my wife, and lied to about the reason for the additional charges. Bayard Electronics will get no more of my business.
Description of Work: Bayard "cleaned & tested" an older Sony DVD player/changer. Technician (Sam) indicated in a call to my wife that there was some 'hesitation' in the mechanism but not a real problem. Sam said the repair part was no longer available, so he could not fix the 'hesitation'. Other than that the unit was OK & just needed cleaning.

About an hour after setting up the apointment, I got a call back. The technical folks had reviewed my symptoms and had checked on replacement part cost. They really did seem to know there stuff. Honesty and Integrity is a pretty good summation After discussing the problem they told me the TV (is is an $5000 70 inch Sony) was not worth the cost of fixing it (and why). We then canceled the technician apointment (at their recommendation). It would have been very easy for Bayard to send someone, charge me 90 bucks for 5 minuets work and tell me the same thing. I talked to them about a replacement TV and if they recommend coming out to do in initial set up (color, convergence ...). Again I was trying to give them money (a customer). They looked up the TV's I was considering and said it was not necessary unless I saw something wrong) When and if I have problems I will call Bayerd's first
Description of Work: I was having trouble with me Sony 70" tv. I called BAYARD and talked to them about my problem. A service call was set up for a technician to evaluate the issue and give me an estimate the cost for fixing it. The service visit would cost ~90$ (though that was a little high). I had a fairly long discussion with them on what was wrong and set up an apointment.
