On Sunday (today, late afternoon), our AC was not working normally. So we called Air Patrol AC company. Amanda answer the call, and told us they will call me back. About one hour, they called back to check. But since we had someone coming already, so we did not have the chance to use the Air Patrol AC service. But we can tell this is a very good company. We will use their service in future.
Description of Work: Answer our emergency AC service request on Sunday.

All my unit needed was freon. However he explained that I had a leak and the unit would not last the summer. This was in the end of July 2012. Of course he suggested I purchase a new unit at a cost of $7,000. It is now a year later in the heat of the Texas summer and the air conditioner is doing fine. If the service technician would have been honest and say that the unit would probably last me another year, I would call them back to replace my unit. I will search out another service when repalcing my air conditioner unit.

I'm glad your unit still working. it seems your leak is smaller than what our technician had thought. it is really hard to say how long a leaky system will last. it may last two years or two month it all depends on the size of the leak. unless we get a second call to check the level of refrigerant then we can determine that. Furthermore our technician do not sale equipments. He doesn't even have a price book to be able to price you any equipments. most likely you asked him to give you a ballpark number based on your unit size. if you check your work order you will see there isn't any prices written down for any replacement products.if he was trying to sell you anything, at the minimum he would have written it down on your work order. Sorry that you got a wrong idea about our service. Hopefully you will give us a call to take care of your repair work in future. we always pride ourselves in providing an honest straight forward service to our clients. Thanks Shawn

Diagnosed system problem and replaced capacitor on lower A/C unit. Told me on Saturday that they couldn't come out until Monday between 1-3pm. Tried to use A-1 A/C instead but they also couldn't come out until Monday and would only commit to "some time on Monday". Went back to Air Patrol. On Monday at 2:15pm they called and said they would arrive in 30 minutes and did. Fixed the problem in less than an hour. Happy customer!!!

Shawn and his crew did such a great job that way exceeds my expectation! I bought an old house in north Dallas. The previous AC is floor blow, and not working at all. I have Shawn came in to give me an estimate. He immediately pointed out the way to solve the problem permanently is to install the AC and new duct system in the attic, and gave me several options to choose from, 13 seer, 15 seer and 17 seer. Because it is such a big project, I tried to have duct cleaning company to clean the old ducts. But they cannot clean the old ducts, because lots of old vents are in the wall with narrow and sharp turns. The cleaning equipment cannot fit in. So I decided to choose Shawn's option, to go with a maintainable system. Before the installation, Shawn gave me very good suggestions such as where to install an attic ladder. During the installation, his crew worked very hard to make sure the AC and furnace are installed perfectly, the vents are added in the best possible locations, all the ducts are well sealed, and removed all my old ducts. They even cleaned up some mess in my attic. Very professional and hardworking crew! Now the AC works so well in my house. And it is so quiet that sometimes I don't even notice it is on. Great job! Two thumbs UP! I will recommend Shawn to everyone I know.

Don't trust these people. Technician said I would need a new coil unit, motor capacitor and about 15 lbs of R22 freon. Total cost more than than $3000. I asked him to put the motor/capacitor/wiring back together like he found it which he said he did. He was paid for the service call and inspection. Had another firm come out. They found the wiring, capacitor and motor in a pile and had not been put back together as indicated. Their analysis was a new capacitor, coils ok, and added about 2.5 lbs of freon for total cost of about $400. Unit now works fine.

(deleted member name), As you may remember our technician inspected two of your systems. Found one of them has a bad capacitor on indoor blower motor. He even put a new capacitor on it and showed you the fan would run. He did not need to take anything apart to replace a capacitor. No one does.So I'm not sure who told you that my tech left the motor and capacitor on top the unit. he didn't even have to touch your motor . Problem was a capacitor for the motor not the motor itself. He checked the system . found it was low on refrigerant and run leak test and found a leak on your evaporator coil. At that time you told him that you would go through your home warranty to try to fix the problem. By the way the $3000 price was for replacing the entire air handler not just filling it up with R22 freon and getting you a much more efficient system with 10 year parts warranty. your system has a leak and most of that $400 you spent with other company will leak into the air in next few month and unfortunately you will need to do the same thing again. My technician offered you a proper solution for your problem not just a bandit that your received form other company.

We wanted a very efficient system. He put a 5 ton unit outside and a 4 ton unit in the attic to provide the efficiency we wanted. The first year we had it, it wasn't working correctly - it wasn't heating or cooling as it should be. Within the first year he had to replace the coil. We've had to replace valves, blower motors, and many other parts. We're now looking at $2,000 worth of repairs but it's still going to be a bad unit. In addition to the poor quality of the new unit, the service we received from Shawn and his crew was terrible. They refused to deal or speak to me and would only speak with my husband. He will only deal with the man in the family. We had him out several times and eventually he got very rude with me. I really want to warn people not to use this company. They are not a good company.

Response from Air Patrol Air Conditioning
The only thing that I'm in mutual agreement with this review is that we installed the system 8 Years ago on July of 2005. We installed a 4 Ton 16 SEER Amana system. The outdoor unit is 4 Ton Two stage the indoor Air handler can handle up to 5 Ton capacity. I do remember that project even after 8 years because the way [member name removed] treated my crew and myself. First of all it was [member name removed] that would refuse to talk to me from the beginning. I'm not a chauvinist and everyone who knows me personally and professionally would attest to that. if there is anything I'm the opposite. From the beginning [member name removed] was the only person who take care of selecting the contractor and scheduling the job. even on day of installation [member name removed] would not talk to me directly(I still don't know why). She would go to another room screaming at her husband and have her to talk to me even though I could hear everything from next room. It was a very unpleasant and demeaning experience. Her complains were( why it take so long to install the job, it getting too hot and she cant handle it anymore, etc) then [member name removed] would apologized to me and ask me to be patient. . We finished the installation by end of the day as I had promised. as it turns out two month after the installation the unit developed a problem( it wasnt cooling well), I took the Factory representative with me to visit the job.Even he told her that Air patrol did a proper installation and it is a problem with evaporator coil from factory. We replaced the coil under warranty at no charge to [member name removed] on Sept 12th 2005. That was the last communication I had with them until now.I always conduct my business affairs with dignity and respect. i would expect the same from my clients. This was the only time i didn't get that. I was hoping to forget that humiliating experience, but after 8 years here it is again.

Great. Certainly probably could find for less, but the level of expertise was worth it. Also, they gave me three options for repair from the least expensive fix the issue and wait for other issues to wear out to preventative replacement based on age of system without ANY pressure to upcharge or choose more expensive options. Everything was done to code including a permit and city inspection. If you want it done right without pressure to replace what you don't need to replace, this is the business to use.

We had Air Patrol out to inspect our upstairs unit after both the a/c and heater stopped working. They were able to get the heat back on, but advised that the part that was broken on the a/c section would be fairly expensive to fix, and would not be a good long term solution anyway. The technician provided a ballpark estimate, and said he would have someone else out to give a full estimate later in the week. We obtained quotes from 4 other providers, and decided to go with Air Patrol. We were happy that all of the providers pointed out the same areas of concerns, and things that needed to be fixed. The quote detailed everything that would be included, and offered two options for the size and efficiency of the unit. Once we decided on Air Patrol, they were able to have a crew out that same weekend. They arrived a few minutes before I was expecting them, and got to work right away. All three gentlemen doing the work were polite and courteous, and kept the house as clean as they found it (or cleaner - we aren't the tidiest people in the world). The work was done on a Saturday, and took just over 12 hours. Having the a/c that night was awesome.

Would not use Air Patrol again. Not trustworthy.
Description of Work: He checked my HVAC and outside unit. Took picturs in attic that showed my duct was disconnected from unit. He went outside for a while and came back in to tell me there was a leak at my shrader valve and they would need to cut the pipe, replace it and the refrigerant that would be lost during this repair. Would cost $600. I told him I would get a second opinion as this unit was only 3 years old. I called Larry Hargis Heat and Air (who I have used for a long time, but wanted to try out Angie's list). He couldn't find a leak at the shrader valve or anywhere, but did say the unit was down about 8lbs. He wondered if the company before him had purposely leaked out the refrigerant. Needless to say, my unit is working wonderfully without any $600 repair. Larry Hargis just replaced the lost refrigerant. Also, I told Larry that Air Patrol told me my duct was detached from the unit in the attic. He checked in the attice and didn't find anything detached. I'm not sure I will ever use Angie's list again.

Response from Air Patrol Air Conditioning
Dear (deleted member name), Information given to you by my technician were all true and correct. You contacted our company to check your Air conditioning system since it wasn't cooling well.first of all. Air conditioning units do not burn or use up freon. If you loose freon is due to a leak in the system. My technician did take you to outdoor unit and showed you where the leak was( the source of your unit problem not cooling well) and recommended to fix the leak rather than keep adding refrigerant to it. we use electronic leak detector to locate the source of the leak. you said other company added freon to your system and said there wasn't any leak.that tells me they didn't run a proper leak test on your system and unfortunately will be back again to put more freon in your system again in near future. Your duct work in attic need to be replaced. you have a defective flex ducts with grey plastic wrapping around them in your attic. these were installed in homes built in 1980's. the insulation wrapping around flex ducts deteriorate and expose the inside lining where air flows to attic temperature. the result is a much higher electric bill and uncomfortable room's temperatures. That is why technician took a picture to show you that. if other company thinks there is nothing wrong with your duct systems, then you are dealing with company who doesn't have your best interest in mind. I would highly recommend to get a third and fourth opinion about these issues and you will find out that it was us who had your best interest in mind. I'm sure you can find few other good companies in Angie's list or BBB directory. I'm 100% sure they would confirm our findings.

My furnace finally gave up the ghost. I had been using a competitor for years, but their only solution to any problem was "replace it". That gets old. So I rung up Angie's List and looked for a new provider. I called Air Patrol on Wednesday, and they had availability Thursday. I had a great advantage, because I already knew what had failed on the furnace (but did not share that initially). It was a great opportunity to see if these guys were sharp - and more importantly - honest. My technician showed up punctually, and thoroughly inspected the furnace. When he came down, he did two things that impressed me: 1. He told me exactly what had failed (which I already knew), and didn't invent new problems out of whole cloth; 2. He led with what it would cost to repair instead of trying to hard sell me on a new furnace on the spot - REFRESHING. The cost to repair was reasonable ($1,200), I had done research on parts already on the internet. It was exactly in line with what I expected. Since he was 2 for 2, I asked him what the cost to replace would be (the old furnace was ancient, installed in 1996). He offered a new unit - reputable manufacturer - at almost half of what my previous HVAC guys routinely quoted me whenever there was a problem, big or small. So I bought a new furnace after all, at twice the cost of repairs - amazing what you'll do when you're not paranoid about getting worked by your vendor. The installation took almost 5 hours, but the technicians dropped tarps, didn't make a mess, and since the house is now sitting at 74 degrees, they clearly did a good job. They managed to do this Friday, exactly 48 hours after my initial call. Super-impressive; these guys are my HVAC guys now.

Air Patrol was wonderful. We noticed that our air conditioner wasn't blowing cold air (wasn't blowing air at all, actually). They came to the house, diagnoised the issues and gave us an estimate on what it would cost to fix the unit and also to replace it. Since our generic, builder's grade system had broken in 100+ weather in the past and had had a costly repair once since we've owned the house (no telling what previous owners had done), we decided the safest thing was to replace the unit. Shawn, the owner, came to our house and detailed our options and the different costs. I mentioned to him that top on my list of "wants" was a quieter unit. Ours was located in a hallway closet adjacent to an upstairs living area and two bedrooms. Anytime the unit kicked on, you would have to turn up the TV. WAY up. It was soooooo loud. Shawn braved the attic to check out the space, and much to our delight he said that he could move the unit to the attic. It was possible to suspend it from the rafters in the attic. This move turned out making a world of difference! Now when our air kicks on, it's uber quiet. As a matter of fact, you don't notice it running at all. It just quietly goes about its business of making the house comfortable, and we are totally unaware of its presence. After having lived for three years with a beast of an air conditioner that rawred and stomped all day long, it almost feels decadent to have a properly installed air conditioner! ;-) The workers were incredibly polite and punctual. Ours was quoted to be a two-day job (I'm guessing because the unit was moved), and they worked two long days to get it done within the window, which I appreciated. The best part was that they did a fantastic job cleaning up both days. They used drop clothes and booties, and they vacuumed at the end of each work day. Seeing as we had just replaced our carpets, this was also much appreciated! Shawn even registered the warranty on the unit for us when the work was done. Overall, I would not hesitate to to recommend Air Patrol to anyone. I'm hoping we don't need them again any time soon, but who knows... maybe we'll move to another house that needs a new unit. And if that's the case, they definitely have our repeat business!

Todd did a great job performing the A/C check on our 3 units in our townhome-- he was pleasant, reliable, knowledgeable and trustworthy. We have an issue where our 4th floor shares a thermostat with our 3rd floor (no zoning), which makes the 4th floor hot in the summer when the 3rd floor is set to a comfortable temp., since heat rises. So Shawn, the company owner came out the next week to talk about a new zoning system with a separate system for each floor. Shawn could not have been nicer, and spent over an hour looking at the current system and giving me options. There were expensive options such as a complete new system for that floor, since ours is 13 years old, or a zoning system added onto the existing system. I said I'd love just to get a portable unit, but it wouldn't work since we just have a sliding glass door and no window through which to put the hose through. Shawn carefully looked at the room, then made a brilliant suggestion that 3 other heating/cooling companies over the years never thought of. He said we could buy a portable A/C unit, install a dryer vent up on the wall, and use that to vent the hot air out through the hose on the A/C unit. It was a perfect solution, and he said if my husband was handy he could easily make the hole for the dryer vent in the wall since they come with a template. Wow! Shawn was honestly more excited about discovering this simple, cost-effective solution than in selling me a new entire system. He said he just likes to help people out in the best possible way. I am beyond impressed, and he was the most "normal", trustworthy service provider that we've had since we moved here 3 years ago.
Description of Work: Todd did a maintenance check on our 3 A/C units and price included maintenance check on our furnaces in the fall. Shawn came out the following week to give us an estimate for a complicated problem we've had since we moved into our home.

I have had horrific A/C experience from other companies in the past and was very leary about having anything done regarding the A/C. This was a great experience from start to finish. I was very impressed with the time Shawn took to explain my options, answer my questions, and discuss his recommendations. The installation was done in a timely and professional manner. I would definitely use them again and recommend them to my friends.
Description of Work: Called to service upstairs A/C unit. Service man was punctual and professional. Explained what was wrong with unit and they would give me a quote for replacement. Shawn called a day or so later and took the time to discuss all of my options, pricing, financing. We decided to go with the whole system replacement. Again, they were punctual and professional. All work was done that day and everything was cleaned up. Serviceman explained the new system. Shawn called later that week and came by to review the work.

My 12 year old system was leaking freon and had a High static pressure(related to poor ductwork and not enough returns). After getting a quote from my previous AC Technicians I looked at Angies List and saw how highly rated Air Patrol was being rated so I gave Shawn a call. We were quickly able to setup an appointment at which Shawn came out and I described for him what I was looking for and what the problem was with my old system. Shawn, who has 26 years of heating and air experience, made the same observations about my system that my previous A/C providers had also brought up when I received a quote from them. He suggested completely new ductwork(which I knew had to be done), 2 Returns to improve the airflow and a 4 Ton SEER 17 Air Conditioning Unit plus a new furnace(this of course will qualify for the federal tax credit next year). Shawn didn't try to pressure me into anything and he happily answered any questions I had. After talking with my wife, we decided to go ahead with the work and Shawn setup a time for April 1st(yes they actually started work on April Fool's day) and arrived promptly at 8am. After removing my old system and installing the new one they then started on the new ductwork and were at the house until 7:30 that evening(Shawn's guys...who were very friendly...worked very h****** this install). Shawn warned me that this would be a two day project, but fortunately after the first day the AC system was active which was nice since it had gotten a bit warm outside. But they promptly returned the next day at 8am to finish their work and left about 2pm. Shawn then arrived to check everything out and to answer any final questions. He returned one more time on the 3rd to collect some final paperwork and allowed me to ask him some more questions. Additionally, the City of Dallas requires an inspection be made after new systems are installed. But there was no problem with this and the inspector actually commented "That was a nice install." And even though the Texas Summer hasn't hit us yet, we can definitely tell this system runs quieter and cools or heats the house much faster than the old system. We have been very happy with Shawn and Air Patrol and will definitely be doing business in the future with his company.
Description of Work: Removed 12 year old system(AC & furnace) and old ductwork. And installed a 4 Ton SEER 17 system(AC & Furnace) along with new ductwork and adding in two additional returns to improve air flow. See below for the full breakdown of what happened.

Well. Very satisfied the professionalism.
Description of Work: Checked for the cause for non working heater. Identified the cause. Offered a solution, but also placed the starter such that we'll have the heat until the part is ordered.
