Cut Above Landscaping & Sprinklers

I contracted with Robert Gates of Cut Above Landscaping and Irrigation to install a new irrigation system for my lawn. 
We discussed  the routing of the supply lines to avoid my existing landscaping and the location of the zone valves and backflow preventer.
Following the installation, I was shocked and surprised that the backflow preventer was installed in my front lawn versus the agreed upon location beside my garage.  To make matters worse they chose to cut down and destroy two of my wife?s favorite plants, a large shrimp plant as well as a turk?s cap.  I also later noticed that my landscaping lighting underground power cable was intentionally cut and a cheaper sprinkler zone timer was installed versus the one quoted with their bid.  After discussing the issues, Robert agreed to replace my wife?s plants if they didn?t grow back, repair the landscape lighting cable, and move the backflow preventer.  
 
Based on these agreements I paid for the job in full.  I was hesitant to do this but Robert promised that he would take care of these remaining issues quickly and honor our agreement.  I also felt that since he lived less than a mile from my house he would be trustworthy.
Since that time, I have been trying to get in touch with Robert for several months through phone, email, and text messages to complete the work but he hasn?t returned any correspondence.  I have tried to contact Robert on over twenty separate occasions with no response. 
I'm very disappointed to think  that Robert would promise to address outstanding items and indicate I had a warranty to receive payment and then disappear.  I'm still hopeful that Robert will chose to honor his published warranty and prior agreements and make the necessary repairs to close out this issue.

We used a "deal coupon" for a sprinkler system inspection,knowing repairs were needed. Jesus arrived within the time window, quickly confirmed the problems, got an estimate from office and made the repairs. Very professional. Robert came by and checked repairs before invoicing.

Robert was very professional.  He responded to my e-mail requesting service very promptly.   We agreed on a time to provide the service and he arrived on time and did a great job.  Two sprinkler heads needed replacement and another needed adjustment.  He helped me with setting a program with the controller and explained its use. 
I was very happy with the service provided and would definitely use him again and recommend to friends and family.

It went well. It costs more than I thought it was going to but they did a good job.

He just would never get in touch with me.  He did not return my phone calls, and I had to use Angie's List to get through to him.

First, we did our homework and of course only used Angie's listed providers. We received multiple bids and elected in going with Cut & Above Landscaping for numerous reasons--the main reasons being Robert Gates showed up on time for the bid---explained the process and provided his expert advice in what would look good and what would not.
Second: The crew showed up at the exact time and date that was suggested on the bid--------what a relief---pulling from past experience this is not indicative of the norm for contractors but for this one it is---he says what he will do and does it correctly!
Third: The crew members were hard working and did an outstanding job and cleaned up afterward! The job was completed in one day.
Fourth: The Cut & Above Landscaping owner, Robert Gates lead the crew members from start to finish and relayed needed materials to them throughout the day.
Fifth: The job was completed on time, on budget, and it was an outstanding job!

Robert did a fantastic job. It looks wonderful. Our old lawn was dead and the neighbors hated us. Now we have a vibrant, green lawn and we look better than everyone else on the block.

I bought it back in January and the guy finally came out yesterday. He was very nice. He told when he was coming and he did everything like he was supposed to. It just took forever getting our calendars together. The price was good. He did the work that I wanted. It was hard to get hold of him. He was very polite and professional.

Crew came on time, and was happy that they checked and made recommendations on failed sprinkler heads.

They came out and started replacing sprinkler heads without asking and then I had to call them back because one head was shooting water straight up.  It took about two weeks to get them back to fix it.  Not a good experience.

Technician showed up on time to perform sprinkler tune-up (for $49).  When I checked in with him, he said 3 zones needed to be adjusted.  The work seems to have been done very well, but the personnel on site never told me how much the additional service would cost, or even that there would be an additional cost.  He completed the work and left without speaking to me. I was shocked to get a bill for an additional $425. When I questioned the bill the company apologized. The company blamed the "over site" on the on site personnel, and their busyness due tot he Angie's list referrals.

Very well trained staff, came on time, finished the work, expalined everything, signed off and done.

They did a great job, quickly fixing leaks and replacing heads as necessary.  My only reason for giving them a "B" overall, was that it took six weeks to get them scheduled after purchasing the tune-up on Angie's List through an online special.  Robert explained that the ad campaign did not work as expected, as he suddenly had many tune-ups through the offer spread over town. I was happy with the work and his crew in any event, and would use them again.

I have had a lot of trouble getting my appointment scheduled with him. He hasn't been very accommodating and has not been good about returning voicemails or emails to confirm appointment times. He has also randomly canceled our appointments on 2 separate occasions.

Robert is very professional and did everything he committed to, and his team did a great job with our sprinkler system. Thumbs up!

I was very pleased with the work that Robert did with the sprinkler system. I took about a day to get everything done. He left really good instruction on how to operate the system.

Robert from Cut Above Landscaping and Sprinklers gave me a 1-year warranty on parts and a 3-year warranty on Labor when he installed my sprinkler system in the Spring of 2010. He also told me if I had any problems, to contact him, and he'd be out to fix the problem within a few days. After the recent freeze in the Houston, TX, the back-flow valve cracked. I contacted Robert to ask him to come and do the repair, and to also let him know that the system in general was not working properly. Many of the valves in the ground were not properly working. He informed me that the back-flow crack was not covered by the warranty, but the other problems would be covered. He gave me a quote for the back-flow valve, which was twice as high as other quotes. I also asked him to replace a bad rain sensor on another house his company had installed a system on 3 years ago, and he gave me a phone quote of $100. This quote too, was twice higher than other quotes! Robert's company was going to come out on March 14, 2011 to do the repairs and warranty work. He cancelled "due to weather." He re-scheduled for the following week, but cancelled that appointment as well. He then told me he was "booked through late April", and would try and fit me in when he could. It's not April 10, 2011, I haven't heard from Robert again. I finally found Newsom Landscaping and Irrigation on Angies List, and Jason performed the repairs within a few days of contacting them! Their prices for the repairs were twice lower than Robert's quotes! It has become very apparent to me that Robert and Cut Above Landscaping and Sprinkler only cares about new customers, and will not honor their warranty. He has many excuses, none of which satisfy current customers!
