We had a 1950's bathroom that was outdated, and had a leak in pipe in the wall near the shower that was creating moisture in the wall, but it was functional (great water pressure and no issues with electricity). Rikman Services sent Darren out to bid on the job. They had completed some install work through Lowe's and so they were a company I felt somewhat familiar with. Darren came out and gave me an estimate and said they could finish the job in a few weeks. Sounded great! When I received the emailed invoices, they were not the same numbers or even scope of work that Darren had projected. Plus, the verbiage was redundant and confusing. Darren assured me that he could negotiate the price on his end and it was miscommunication in the office. I believed him and we proceeded with the work. There was a lot of haggling and drag time... work didn't begin until one month after the initial meeting. One day during that 1st week of work, the workers didn't show up to our job and their wasn't any notification. (This happened several times throughout the project and in hindsight, I should have recognized it as a red flag). When asked about it, the company and Darren said they were needed at other sites, giving me the feeling that my project was not a priority.
The job was to include plumbing / new pipes for sink and shower, obvious drain for shower, drywall, insulation (which we paid for and supplied ourselves), an electrical outlet going to exterior of house on porch, replaced electrical outlet near vanity, two overhead recessed lights above vanity, one centered recessed light, one exhaust fan (which we also paid for and supplied ourselves), one shower light. The permit they pulled for the work was for "miscellaneous plumbing permit". Part of the reason I had selected Rikman Services was because they offered both a licensed electrician and a licensed plumber.
So the job continued for weeks, then onto months. There was a lot of problems communicating with the office. They continually tried to invoice us for work that had not been completed. During the job we ran into several problems including the replaced outlet was not GFCI, then they left the outlet uncovered and hanging out of the wall which ended up giving my husband quite an electrical shock, the light in the shower wasn't mounted correctly, they covered up the shower drain before the inspector came and ended up having to uncover the line again (concrete and all) for that to pass that part of the inspection, ended up with shower drip which had to be repaired before job was finished, scratched one of the Moen Polished Chrome pieces which they said they would replace and never did... I had asked for Rikki Lackey to come out for the electrical portion of the job, but we never saw him. They sent Darren, the plumber, out to correct the electrical issues. When he had trouble addressing the shower light, he said "I'm a plumber, not an electrician." (Yeah, my thoughts exactly!)
I addressed the company several times... They sent me a total of 9 different invoices over the course of the project. They initially came out on 4/1/12 for the estimate, took about two months to get our bathroom (somewhat) functioning, and I sent them an email with several outstanding issues that needed to be addressed on 9/24/12. They sent one of their workers out to do the punch out work, and they said they would call for final inspection the next day. I NEVER heard from them again and inspection was never completed. Two years later and I still have the baseboards in my garage to be installed and the shower is absolutely useless - no water pressure. We can't take a shower in there and there is barely enough of a trickle to clean the shower. The electrical outlet above vanity buzzes at times and the walls are so botched, dented, etc. Each day that passes, I regret ever selecting Rikman Services to do our job.
The two crew workers, Damaso and Casino, were always polite. Darren on the other hand was a bit raw and would help himself to my ice machine & fridge water dispenser in the kitchen. On many occasions he was late, wouldn't show up, or would be missing in action and the office couldn't even find him. One time he showed up to the job hours late and had a woman waiting for him in his truck... he didn't even turn off the engine to come in and do the work and didn't have the materials he needed and was in the house for less than 5 minutes before saying he had to run and get something from the store - he obviously had no intention of staying to do the work that day.
Communication with the office was with Bonnie, Steve and Jose. There was lack of communication between the job site and the office. I spoke with Rikki Lackey one time and he assured me that everything would be worked out. It never was completely resolved.
Please note - I had tile, cabinets, countertops, paint, and shower door all completed by other contractors. Sink and Moen fixtures were purchased through Morrison and paid for separately.
