$310
First time I contacted Tuck, he forgot the date so when he had to reschedule.  We he first went out he did a survey of the job.  He called me back to tell me how much it would cost and I did not think it would be more than $150 for the work that was required.  He quoted me $310.  I told him on the phone that I didn't think that was a good price but I needed to get the wall fixed for my tenants so I accepted. He went out to do the work on 7/10/2015 but did not mention to me that he had started nor when he finished the job. I was greeted with a text asking for his money.  I responded back "Did you finish the job?"  At the time I was out of town in Florida and luckily I had my check book to send him his payment.  During the vacation, Tuck called me asking when I was sending the check to which I told him it was already sent and that he should expect it sometime the next week.  I also told him that I was out of town so the check may not get to him as fast as he hoped.  I received a text a couple days later from him stating that he still had not received the check and asked if I actually sent the payment.  I sent him a long text telling him that I did not appreciate him thinking I would not pay him when I specifically told him that I had already sent the check to him from out of town.  He apologized but I do not think I will be doing business with him again in the future.  My tenants told me and I quote "Shoot if I would have known he was going to charge that much I could have done it if you would have just gotten me the supplies.  I've patched drywall before and I know how to use a caulking gun."  So to me this job was not worth the $310 he received.

I have requested a receipt for the work 3 times and still have not received it.  He stated on July 24th that I would get one July 27th.  It is now August 4th and have not received anything, not even a reply back.

Update: My tenants have stated that the window is again leaking. They also mentioned that he told them he was not getting paid to find the leak. Only to patch the damage to the window. This individual still has not sent me a reciept for the work. This is money out of my pocket that could have been saved for the lack of quality work performed.

Update again: here is a link to the pictures of the so called work that was done and texts from my tenants. I want my money back because the company did not do a good job of fixing the issue I requested.

Response from Tucks Home Improvements

"This customer is perplexing to me. I gave him a price for the work to be done. I did the work as he told me. He asked me to get in touch with tenant and make arrangements with him. I did so and did the work. I texted the client and asked for payment. He replied " did you do the work"? I told him I had and received no response from him. Since he lives in the same community as I do, I thought the check should arrive in two or three days. It did not. I asked if he had sent the check, not knowing he was out of town in Florida. He became indigent that I would question him. If I would have known he was out of town would have given more time for check to arrive before I questioned him. I did not know if we needed to question post office about the whereabouts of said check. He has made a huge issue about the price I charged, he should not have accepted my bid. His resolution to this complaint is a total refund. It seems to me it has always been about the money. If he would have come to me in a civil manner I would have done all I could to make him a happy customer. He has burnt that bridge. Shalom."

Tuck showed up on time both days as agreed.  He immediately began working on the items identified and didn't try to pressure us into buying other services or repairs from him.  He is a very down-to-earth person who doesn't try intimidating you, and he even took time to show me how to make a few repairs by myself.

It did not go well at all. The issue was too-high estimate for the job he done that was removal of the kitchen serving window. I am 81 years old and do not know anything about carpentry. During his first visit for an extimate, he looked at it, and phoned me later and gave me an estimate of $630 to do the work listed above, not including the electrical items, just the partial wood between the kitchen and the dining area. This is rough work since it is in preperation for some minor kitchen remodeling.

He arrived on time, my wife was home, I have a small clerical job to help us make ends meet, so I was at my job. He finished this in four (4) rhours, including one hour to buy a small slat of weed. (I will attach photo.)

When I got home, and it came time to pay him, I said, don't you think that was too much ($630) for how simple of a task this turned out to be? He was quite quick to tell me, "That was my quote, and you accepted it." He wouldn't discuss it any further.

I paid him in full. One hour later, he phoned me and left a message that he had worked 9 hours to justify the $875 total charge. He worked exactly as outlined above my wife kept carful track of this. He asked her about about any of the local Chinces restaurants for him to go to during the lunch hour. (The phone message made me feel like he had a touch of guilty remorse.) Then two days later I talked to him and he told me that he justifed the $630 charge because he had to use some "special equipment." I am not sure what "special equipment" would justify $630 and why didn't he tell me this upfront? I am still trying to figure this one out.

I plan to get other estimates and post them to this review later, as well as to post a photograph of this job.

The electricl work was quoted at $50 per task, 3 ballasts, two wall outlets, that would be $250. I paid for the parts, and he gave a small discount, making it clear his normal charges for each single electrical task was $50. So far, everything is working electrically, so time will tell on this one. I have no idea of what a licensed electrician would have charged, and how his charges compare since he does not have any electrical license. He reminded me a number to ftimes about how much experience he has had. Personally, the next time I will stick with licensed electricians, like Allgood Electric that we have had excellent work from.

WARNING: Before letting this provider do any work, get other estimates and compare. I really don't care how he tries to expalin any of this, just get other extiamtes and compare. I have been on Angie List a long time and have written 33 reviews, all A except for two D's and one B, and take pride in my credibility.

I notice that 16% of his reviews are D and F. If I had taken the time to review this, I would not have used the "tuckster" in the first place.
What is the old expression? Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me...

When he responds to this with his usual fast rheotic, I will not respond, I am through with him. All I can do is to warn others to GET MORE THAN ONE ESTAMATE AND COMPARE.

"I did all the work that was asked of me. I gave him a bid and he accepted it. While there his wife added more to the job. He came home and threw a fit. Was there for nine hours and did not take a lunch break, drove to get materials. Very unreasonable man. Tried to discuss my position and he continued to cut me off. Some people can not be pleased."

Tuck's workmanship was excellent, we could not be more pleased with how everything turned out.  Tuck was on time every day, responsive, honest and clean while he worked.  He really went above and beyond with all the work he did for us.  We definitely plan on using Tuck for future jobs and would highly recommend him to any of our friends or family that might need work around the house.  If you want a job done right, Tuck is definitely the person to call.  Thanks Tuck we appreciate it!!

Mr. Burger was very professional and I really appreciate his honesty concerning the section of my ceiling that didn't end up needing to be repaired.  It's always nice to run into a person who operates a reputable business.  He did a very good job replacing the weather stripping on my door.  It would be a pleasure to do business with him again and I would definitely recommend his services to others.

I hired Tuck Burger of Tuck's Home Improvements after having interviewed several contractors.  I was looking for someone interested in letting me participate in the work, and I let them all know that from the start.  Tuck and I seemed to have a lot in common (including work ethic) and we agreed upon a price which included my working alongside him throughout the entire project.  While he was obviously the skilled tradesman, I served as laborer, helper, clean-up, and "gopher" whenever additional supplies were needed.  The work included tile floor and wallpaper removal, demolition of existing bathroom vanity, expansion of shower, removal of old toilet and installation of new, fixing of several drywall issues, texturing of repaired areas and areas formerly wallpapered, installation of all tile to include bedroom and bathroom floors (ceramic wood-look tile), shower walls and floor, and border tile in newly expanded shower as well as around existing tub.  Old fluorescent lights were replaced with new wall lamps, and new double vanities were installed, including new faucets.  Tuck even accompanied us to the tile store to help pick out tile, and throughout the entire process (approximately 6 weeks) he repeatedly offered valuable information and suggestions regarding the aesthetics of the project.  Tuck is a hard worker who is highly skilled in plumbing, electrical, carpentry, tile work, and drywall construction and finishing;  I would not hesitate to hire him again for future home improvement projects.  By working with him on a daily basis I was able to save about $4,000 in "sweat equity", which I appreciated.

"I did all that she told me to do, which was what the granite installers told her to do. I had no way to measure where the sink was going to be installed. I was told to just reinforce the back of sink cabinet, which I did with some 1x2. This is the first that I have heard of this. Would have tried to accommodate her."

Was impressed when Mr Tuck showed up for appt on time he stated he liked being on time.  I thought wow finally someone that is dependable (first time impression).  Well I didn't hear from him again, on September 11th I texted him and informed him I had not heard from him if he was still interested in the job. He replied stating he wanted to meet with his help on my property the following Saturday in order to give me a bid.  He did state he was swamped but the work would be done under his supervision.  I informed him that would be fine.  Never heard back from him.  On September 15th I finally texted him asking him if he was able to come by on that Saturday.  No response.  I texted him again today with no avail. First impressions are not always what they seem to be.  A courtesy text or call would have been fine.  As of yet, no respone.

Tuck Burger made a much needed modification of our kitchen pantry. He arrived on time for every stage of the job from start to finish. In addition to the carpentry (wall studs, stairs beam, wood shelves) involved he also performed necessary modification on the electrical wiring and floor tile inside the pantry. All work was performed in a highly professional manner and was of high quality. This is not the only job that Tuck has done for us. He also constructed an interior wall forming a home office complete with drywall, texturing, and coatings in addition to the office entry door. Once again, all performed in a highly professional manner and very good quality. I would highly recommend Tuck Burger to anyone needing any similar job done to their home.

This is the second remodel job Tuck has done for us. The first was our kitchen and we still get compliments on it. He not only does outstanding quality work but has an eye for very nice touches which makes for a very professional finish remodel. We have have already received a lot of positive statements on the family room Tuck just finished. He is a real craftsman and will give you a straight answer on how to make what you want even better than you imagined. If you are looking for blazing speed and a quick job he may not be what you want. If you will let him work at his pace then you will get a masterpiece. He is a superb person with integrity and will do a fine job for you.Great guy and super craftsman. I highly recommend him.

Tuck gave a verbal bid on completing the master bath for labor only and said he would provide a contract when work began.  His original verbal quote was $2,000 for labor; $4,000 if he did the walk-in shower as well.  All material was to be provided by me, the homeowner/contractor.  He was offered the job and again a contract was requested.  He arrived and began work, and when questioned about the contract a few days later, he said he had it at his house and would bring it.  He never provided a contract or Statement of Work and in the end, demanded $7,000 for basically 2-3 weeks of work, since he never really came and worked straight through, but seemed to be doing one or two other jobs simultaneously.
His trim carpentry and floor tiling skills are good.  His electrical and plumbing skills seem to be still in the learning process.  He never properly installed our clawfoot tub drain, and I had to hire someone else to fix it; the double-sink console was never connected and tested for leaks; the walk-in shower does not slope properly and puddles in areas of the floor in low spots; the shower wall grout has bubbles and spaces in the grout which is requiring me to hire someone else to come and repair the floor and the grout in the shower so I can use it; there were pieces of baseboard that were cut but never installed.  When I asked about painting, he said that would cost extra, when I had specifically discussed that in our original bid discussion.  We ended up painting the the bathroom walls ourselves to get it done.  Overall, there was a lack of professionalism in his work which gave me lack of confidence in his overall skills and competency.
Nice man, but I'll go with someone else next time.

He returned my original call and kept his appointment to look at the closet and give an estimate.  We made a date and he kept that date with just a reminder the day before that I had said I would make.  He did an excellent job and I have requested another small job.  He said he would call me as soon as he finished another project.   Very professional an courteous.
