In November 2011 our old furnace malfunctioned and we had Grizzle replace it and the old duct work. They were prompt and on time but the work was shoddy. One worker strpped through a bed room ceiling and they totally destroyed the furnace door. Complaints were made and the Contractor sent repairmen to repair the damage
. On the first morning after installation it was apparent someting was wrong with the furnace air output or with the return. The contractor was called and he came but didn't do anything to correct the problem. At this time I called the manufacturer of the Furnace and they sent out three reps. to check the furnace. The next day Grizzle replaced the new furnace with a larger unit and made adjustments to dmapersand change the bath room air from a large duct to a Y duct feeding both baths.. The problem still lingered. Another complaint was made and Paul came out and installed two larger ducts to the den. This helped the den area but the rest of the house remained with air atratification. At a later date another duct was replaced with no appreciable improvement.In December 2011 I called Amarillo Heating and Air and they sent two men to inspect the problem. These men were knowledgeable and thorough and found problems with the return system not being properly sealed and iwth air ducts crimped without proper boots leading into the air vents.
I accepted the bid and two men came to do the work. They were efficient and thorough. They replaced one duct and replaced several boots, shortened the existing ducts to eliminate coiling and crimping and in the process called my attention to an extra duct attached t the plenum that went nowhere. It was a 7" duct that went toward the middle bath but the end of it wasturned down toward the insulation and all it did was blow hot air into the attic. My deduction was that this was the original duct that went to the middle bath. The return area was properly sealed to prevent air leaks and was selaed properly.
Corrections were made and now for the first time in 4 years I have a warm house..
I then called Paul Grizzle to advise him of our findings with the extra duct to nowhere and he wanted to know why I called someone other thna him. He just would't accept the fact that his crew made this error on the duct although his crew was the only crew to ever replace ducts in this attic. I requested that he come ansd see it and while here to inspect the furnace for its annual check and he replied yeah Ok I'll put that in my pocket and come by - and he never did.
I consider this an expensive lesson well learned.
