"After meeting with the customer and repairing some minor cosmetic hairline cracks in the patio the customer said that they were extremely satisfied with the project. He said at that time his wife was ill and had to get final approval from her to make final payment. After a few weeks some more cosmetic hairline cracks appeared. We did more touch up on the patio. My stone mason, who had over 40 years experience, was in the hospital with terminal cancer was not able to go look at the project first hand. The stone mason had said that if the job is the way the client was describing that we could take up some flagstone and redo it. Once my stone mason was out of the hospital we went to look at the project. There were still a few very small cosmetic hairline cracks. My stone mason said those could be repaired and it was unnecessary to take up any flagstone. At that point the customer became belligerent with my stone mason and myself. It was very frustrating for me to see him speak to my stone mason the way he was since my stone mason was so ill. We did have words but I did not cuss him. I told him that we would do the cosmetic repair. Also, I said I would put screws in the drain covers that were coming up as that was all that was needed. They said they wanted the entire patio completely torn up and redone which was totally unwarranted. They refused final payment unless this was done so we did file a lien on the property for the unpaid balance of completed contractual work. I have asked them to send me pictures of the patio or for access to see it myself and my multiple requests have been denied. I would like to see what repairs were done, and a receipt for those repairs from a legitimate company but he will not submit those to me. The customer is requesting a refund for work he did not pay for. We have tried to work with this client in the past and are still willing to in order to resolve any legitimate warranty claims with reasonable and warranted repairs. Our efforts to do so in the past have been negated by him."
