He carefully examine my old unit, removing a recently fried lizard from the capacitor leads. Then he checked the compressor wiring and found that of the three wires, one was burned through completely and was just leaning on the post, one was nearly fried and the third was marginally all right. He repaired and reattached all of these.
He checked my freon, ensured that the capacitor was all right, and cleaned the exterior fins. We then fired up the unit -- and it WORKED! He did a great job, and carefully explained to me all that he was doing (at my request). He never tried to and quot;upselland quot; me, realizing that if I could replace the unit, I would but clearly that is outside my price range at the moment.
The temperatures have been +100 for a few days now, and are forecast to remain so for a week or more. These folks came quickly, they did a fantastic job, and the price was quite fair. I will not hesitate to use their services in the future -- although I do hope that I won't be quite so panicked about having the work done right away!
