Back in Oct 2011, part of our fence went down in a storm and we used Viking then. I was taken a bit aback by the estimate (what do I know what fences cost?), but Dave explained everything in detail, and I backed the information up by checking online about fencing. So I was pretty happy with his honesty and non-pushiness of the sale. That project went well, and now fast forward to March, when we decided to get the rest of our fencing done.

This company is very professional yet friendly. Dave gave an accurate estimate, answered all my questions, and I felt very secure that I was getting an honest deal. He also got the crew out quicker than I thought would be possible.

The fence looks great - red cedar, little to no spacing between the slats (more privacy) and they carved out the perfect half-square around my neighbor's big honking tree. There are two new gates, which are wonderfully easy to use and sturdy. We got the red cedar with the steel posts, and we love spending time in the backyard now. It feels more secure and the fence is really beautifully done.

I completely recommend the company. They are honest but a bit pricey, but you get what you pay for. A cheap fence will need replacing every 10 years or less. And the boards bend and warp and I don't want to deal with it again and again. This is either a 20 or 30 year fence (I forget), and it looks like it.

On a side note, the crew was as nice as you could ask. Very friendly and willing to answer my questions, and they left no mess. Everything was cleared up by the time we got home.

i originally called for quote in april 2010 but didnt contact company to do job until july 2010. they graciously did it for the quote even though their cost had gone up. they were suppose to replace 3 sides of my fence but due to a miscommunication took down all four sides, so i got 4 sides for the price of 3. they did put that side back up same day, and finished next day. after 7 months the gate post kinda warped out (boyfriends words) so he added a small board and moved the handle. i never called company about it. i have no problem recommending them.

I was in need of a new fencing. I am the owner of my house but I am away in Afghanistan. My sister is the one staying at the house taking care of it for me. I needed a new fence due to the old cheap one was falling apart and my dogs were getting out. I look on Angie's List and found Viking Fencing and had them come out to do an estimate. I called one other company as well. Rick Skaggs came out and took care of the estimate. He took his time after he was done to talk with me over the phone and explain everything to me in detail. I was originally thinking of getting either vinyl or composite fencing but he explained what was best, so I settled on the Western Wood Cedar, which had about the same life span as vinyl or composite. A very nice guy to talk to, very professional. Also according to my sister he was very friendly with her and her kids. Compared to the other guy who came out as well only did measurements and basically was a hi and bye kind of deal without explaining anything. About a week went by and Rick sent me the estimates by email. Very presentable!! Had a brochure and other info about the work as well. The price he had quoted me was just a bit high. But at the same time i also got the other guys quote, which i will say i had to call and bug for him to get it done and send it, but his price was about $1000 cheaper. So i told Rick about it and he took the time and talked with the owner of the company and worked out a deal and dropped the price just a bit, which was good for me. So i hired them. I will also like to say during all this time Rick worked hard to keep my business and kept in contact with me even thou there was a big time difference from Afghan and home. He would email me back even thou it was past business hours. They showed professionalism and showed they care about their business. After a price was set and the deposit made, they were out at my house on a Tuesday morning, and by Wed afternoon they were done. My sister told me it looks GREAT! And from the pics she sent me I would have to agree and say as well they did a phenomenal job!! Rick told me over the phone the first time i talked to him that if i didn't like the work when i get back, i can kick his butt..LOL. Don't look like that will be necessary now! Thanks Rick and their Viking team! I highly recommend this company! The price may be a bit high, but you can't put a price on the quality and customer care you get from these guys!

Not well, much too expensive.
Response from Viking Fence

"I regret that our price did not meet your budget. However, we make every effort to install fences that will eventually add value to your home and not detract value in a mattter of a few years. The primary reason that other companies are priced lower than us is that they install pressure treated pine for posts and rails. We do not recommend that as these products will twist and warp. We wish you the best with your fence. If theer's any way that we can assist you in the future, please let us know. Regards, Viking Fence"

I used them many years ago and my son gave me a Christmas present to fix my automatic gate. He called viking to come out and give an estimate. I had previously received an estimate in 2011 to repair the gate and it was outrageous. My son did not know this. He called them 3 times to come out and they scheduled, but never showed.

Response from Viking Fence

"Member, I regret that we could not accommodate your budget on this project. We are an insured, bonded and established company that has been in business for over 40 years. Patiot Fence buys wood from us. They buy all of our lower grade material that we prefer to sell to other companies and not install on our #2/btr grade fences. They have been in business for close to two years. I can't speak to their pricing practices. But, I can tell you this. We don't use migrant workers. The average tenure of our fence erectors is over 15 years. They have families in central Texas and they have to put their kids through school and earn an honest living. We pay our crews more than other fence companies, but we demand a higher quality product. This may have been a job that Viking was never destined to get, due to your budget, but i do not feel that your grade is fair. There is a cost to doing business in a legitimate way. I wish you the best of luck with your fence. Regards, Salvador Chavarria President/Owner"

The people at Viking Fencing were professional and punctual. The only problem was I thought the price was a little high. I got a better estimate at Patriot Fencing. I still would consider another estimate from Viking Fencing.

That's it!! I certainly wouldn't hire them.
Response from Viking Fence

"With all due respect, I think this is an unfair grade, without sharing more details like configuration of fence and soil terrain. We are a fully bonded and insured business that has been in business for 37 years. We take our product quality and ability to warranty a fence/gate very seriously. To be very frank, every one of those things cost money. We can build cheap fences, with light gauge material just like our competition, without insurance coverage and the ability to warranty our product, but we decide that is not our business. We are the only fence company in town with a small jobs crew that does nothing but this size of project. I regret that we could not accommodate your project. President Viking Fence"

I took bids from three fencing companies that were on Angie's list. Their prices were very close so the decision to go with Viking was based on other Angie's list reports and on Brad Boeing's demeanor and professionalism. Brad is fun to talk to on the phone and he was cool when he came out to look at our property. Brad's an old school kind of guy, one who gives you his word, means what he says, and then gets it done. No surprises, no tricks. Just good, hard wording men installing top quality fencing. You won't go wrong with Brad and Viking.

Jimmy with Viking Fence is AWESOME. Super responsive, professional, friendly and a problem solver. I had several companies come out and bid the project. None was willing to offer a creative solution that was both practical and economical to my driveway needs. Jimmy looked it over, came up with a plan on the spot and executed it perfectly. I could not be happier!!

We quickly got an emailed bit and accepted it. The work was done promptly. They also stained the fence for a reasonable charge. The work looked excellent, and the workers didn't leave any trash or mess behind.
I was very happy with Viking Fence, and plan to use them in the future.

It was a free estimate. They were very professional. We had 2 estimates done and it was pretty much the same estimate as we'd gotten from another company. Nothing really was amazing about them but they were timely.

The bid was for about $4,300. Their bid was a little higher than the other companies I had. Everybody wanted to use different materials. I happened to like one company better than this one. I was looking at having treated pine posts. They were not putting cedar posts. I would not hold that against them. They were professional. They came out on time to do the estimate. I would consider them in the future if I am getting any work done.

I am really not impressed with this company. The man (John, I think) who gave us our quote in 2010 was very attentive - that is, until we signed a contract. At that point he became significantly less responsive and we had a hard time getting a hold of him. He had assured us we would be able to start on the fence almost immediately, which is why we went with them. Ended up starting 2-3 weeks later than expected, which was frustrating for us as we had children and dogs to try to contain during that time. The actual guys who built the fence were *very* nice and professional, but they had almost no experience building the horizontal type fence we had asked for, so we spent a lot of time monitoring the building process and problem solving with them. Not something we should have had to do for the amount of money we paid. They should have assigned us a team who was experienced building the type of fence we needed. We also didn't end up with the exact fence we had envisioned, and weren't really offered any help/ideas on the design end of things. Have issues with several of the gates, including the driveway gate. They've come out a couple of times to adjust them, but now we're out of our 1 year warranty. I saw them pouring extra gravel in with the cement on the posts (a cost saving measure, I'm sure), and I wonder if this has affected how well the posts are holding up and if that's why we have a lot of shifting issues with the gates.

When we bought another property this fall, I decided to go with them again because even though my experience was and quot;mehand quot; last time, I didn't want to have to go through all the trouble of finding another contractor. This time another estimator (Brad, I think) scheduled an appointment with me at 10:30. I carved out my morning to meet him at this house (we did not yet live there)...I called at 1pm when he had not yet arrived, and he said and quot;oh yeah, I've got some other stuff happening but I'll be out soonand quot;. Showed up an hour later, took some measurements and then never got back with me regarding a bid. This was not a small project, either. It was enough to write them off once and for all.

I did some more research and found another fencing company on angies list (see my reviews) that I am SO pleased with. Viking fence is a big company that doesn't offer the kind of personalized service you would expect given their prices. The people who give you quotes are just estimators, they don't do the work. This can lead to misunderstandings and confusion. There are other companies in town who can offer more personal/helpful service. I would not recommend this company.

They were very responsive. I had asked them to give me several quotes. One was for posts made of wood, which was for about $2500. Then I asked them for a quote for posts made of metal, which was for about $3000. It was a little on the higher side. I didn't have them do any work. They were nice and friendly. They came out quickly. I didn't have a problem with them. I haven't decided if I'm going to contract them or not. I got several other quotes from other companies as well.

Dan Cullison at Viking Fence was very professional and thorough in his bidding for replacement of part of our fenced back yard. Although the price was quite a bit more than 3 other bidders, the materials used were much better and the installation was very well done. We only completed a third of the total area for now, but it is the area we see daily from our den and it's beautiful! We could not be happier with the way our back yard looks against the stunning fence. We do plan to complete the fence in stages; one side and gate after Christmas, with a spring completion of all remaining. We will contact Dan at Viking for the rest of the project; we highly recommend both he and the company.
