From bid to completion, Southern Painting was an absolute pleasure to work with. Phil, Jeff, and the rest of the Southern Painting team were prompt and professional. Prices were exceptionally reasonable. The paint crew was clean, friendly, and FAST. Their workmanship was flawless, and they took great care to check in with us to ensure they were meeting our expectations.

I am exceptionally hard to please when it comes to painting contractors. SOUTHERN PAINTING exceeded my expectations in every regard and has earned a customer for life.

Use them, you will not regret it.

I paid for Southern Painting to paint the exterior of my home and repair some wood in the patio area. Overall its been over one year and the paint is holding up fine but I wasn't happy with the following during the course of the job and after:

1) Before the paint team starts the actual painting, they first pressure wash the house then come back the next day to apply caulk on areas of the house that needs it then finally paint.   I had to point out some spots on the house where the paint team (crew of five I believe) completely missed some spots that needed caulking.  I didn't expect this from a company who supposedly done many a paint job in Austin.

2) The brush strokes on my rear door were really noticeable and when I asked the the crew members to look into it they shrugged it off.  After escalating to their PM (Phil), he and the foreman came out to my house the next day to attempt a repaint of the door again which came out alright.  What was frustrating for me about this whole experience was that the foreman kept repeating that someone painted the door already and that was why the the brush strokes were still noticeable a second time.  OK - then what am I paying SP for? To paint it over and call it a day?

3) A couple of days after I paid my bills, I noticed a couple of windows had areas where it hadn't been caulked (old caulk cracks still visible).  I contacted the PM for help and after two weeks of no response, reached out to his manager for help and he prompted took care of it.  It makes you wonder about how customers are treated by the PM after the money has been paid.

My husband and I invited Phil Walsh to our home to assess the cost of painting a large living room (with a vaulted ceiling) and the adjoining foyer.   He made several good suggestions:  He pointed out that since we eventually wanted the wallpaper removed in the kitchen and its walls texgtured and painted, we could save money by having it done at the same time.  And he noticed the lack of texturing in the foyer and volunteered to include that work, as well.  He quoted a reasonable price and had the means on hand to write up a contract and set a date.   In the interim my husband and I decided we wanted wallpaper removed from a small bath, and Mr. Walsh was able to work that project into the plans (for a fee, of course).  The crew arrived on time, worked efficiently, and did not spill a drop of paint.  They were courteous at all times.  We are very pleased with the results.

We are very satisfied with the service they provided. We made the call to Southern Painting, and had someone come out to give us a bid on what we wanted done.  Out of the three bids we had done, theirs was the most thorough and professional.  The bid itself was specific on what was to be done.  The only thing that changed from the quote given, to the final cost, was some extra rotted wood that was discovered and needed to be replaced.  They also said that no payment up from was required, until the work was completed.

They power washed our house on two days before beginning the needed repairs, caulking and priming.  These were completed on the first day, and the painting of the house was completed on the second day.  They came out la few days later to take care of a few touch-ups that were needed on the newly installed shutters.  They were both professional and courteous.

They did a great job. They came out when they said they were going to come. They finished the work on time. Their price was very reasonable and wasn’t the cheapest but they weren’t the most expensive. They did a very thorough job. Everything was good about them. I would rate them high overall. I would use them again in the future.

The person who came out to do the estimate from Southern Painting Company was very professional. He was very punctual. He was very responsive. He followed up on the estimate to see if I needed any additional information. I would consider using Southern Painting Company in the future.

Seemed competitively priced compared with other quotes I had received. The estimator was very specific and came by the house at least 4 times to meet me and discuss estimate, color choice, review of work, and review of additional work after the initial review. The crew came and blasted the job out quick: cleaning one day, and painting another. The workmanship was good and the few concern spots and areas I was easily able to convey to the estimate over the phone and also at home at my convenience and were all quickly addressed before I paid a penny. Would use again.

Southern Painting was outstanding to work with. Very thorough with the explanation of every detail during the bid process. The spent a ton of time on prep (taping, draping) as there was almost no stray paint. Job was completed in 1.5 days without issue! They did such a good job, my neighbor used them the following week. I would use or recommend them in a heart beat. Not the cheapest in town but you often get what you pay for... these guys are experts, not day hires!

Crew was professional and thorough in their preparation and clean-up. Aside from a two-day delay on actual start date, they kept their commitments re: schedules and timelines. We had a small issue with a gutter being bent by a painter's ladder, and Southern sent out a gutter repair company to replace the damaged section. Could not ask for more!

Overall, this was a great experience. Jeff came out to give me a quote and spent a lot of time answering all my questions (and I do mean A LOT of questions). He was very responsive and helped walk me through the color palette to choose a color that would complement my home and update the look. As far as scheduling, Jeff was great about pushing my job back as I wanted to get my new front door installed prior to painting. The door arrived, but was damaged and we had to send it back.

Excellent. While they were more expensive than other bids, I could tell that it was immediately worth it. The estimator was extremely professional and timely and met all expectations. We had to request him to come back to look at a couple things and he was quick to respond to all questions. Very professional work and pleased with this group. Seems like they were in it for the long run, to build up a loyal customer base that would come back to them as well as ensure that they were satisfied enough to refer their friends. Will call on them again in the future as the need arises. Phil even helped my wife make sure and pick the right paint color options...while I was out of town, thanks Phil.

Very well. Southern Painting found that more extensive repairs needed to be done so they recommended a non-affiliated contractor. This contractor (Cornerstone Contracting) did not do all that they were supposed to do so Southern Painting provided the rest of the repairs at no additional charge. I am very pleased with the quality of the work and would definitely use them again.

I compared quotes and theirs was extremely competitive. I feel like I received a good price for the workmanship. They were thorough, explained everything. They gave me a detailed estimate for all the jobs I had, so I new the costs upfront. They were very professional. The painters were excellent and the work was done by hand. The foreman was doing what needed to be done and they were responsive to my requests. The owner even suggested some fiber board sealant. I upgraded to this based on his sample. They were here every step of the way, from the owner, salesman, foreman, to the crew. My front door now looks better than it did with the orignial stain. They cleaned up after themselves well, too.

The job was delayed by weather and the rotted column problem. After an unusual rain storm, SP arrived to wash the house. The next day had more rain, so carpentry and painting had to wait until thing dried out. On the first day of painting work, the crew removed the rotted trim and replaced it with new wood or Hardie Board. The next day they started painting the primer and some of the spray work over the primer. The third day of painting went long, but they finished all the trim work, most of which was done by hand using brushes. My house is two-story and approximately 2400 sq ft. It is a mix of brick and siding. The front is about 90% brick, the sides about 50% brick, and the back is 100% siding. The two-tone paint scheme was adjusted only a few times as it was applied. The painting, especially the hand work, was impressive. The crew could paint straighter with a brush than I could with masking with blue tape and a spray can. Because more wooden trim was replaced than was bid, the price went up $190.00. In a way, that shows how tight Jeff's original bid was. On the other hand, my roofer had "surprise" costs built into his bid; i.e., he replaced two sheets of decking and some boards at no extra cost. The finished paint job is very impressive. It definitely raised my home's curb appeal. I would trust all my painting jobs to Southern Painting.

Henry Johnson, the sales manager, responded quickly to come out to make an estimate and then answered my questions about the bid on a Saturday morning. I accepted their bid and they had an opening to start within two days. The first day the crew headed by Jose, actually chopped down some large plants in the way even though that was not their responsibility. They had the carpentry skills to replace all of the rotten wood. They pressure washed, then caulked and then painted for a day and a half. They arrived on time and left around 7 at night. The did a pretty good job of picking up after themselves and went the extra mile to come back and paint the front door again.

Jeff went out and gave me a detailed estimate. His price was a little higher than some but the attention to detail included in the estimate, along with the great communication swung the vote in his favor; I have no regrets. He was very easy to communicate with (the house is an investment property in Austin and I live in California) and even helped me pick colors. The crew did a great job. I've since received several comments on it. There was even a piece we had questions about, Jeff went back out to check it out, painted another layer on it and sent me pics of all the work. I would use this company again.

Jeff, the supervisor, was hostile when I called because I discovered my water had been turned off. I had to call the city to turn the water back on, which Jeff said he would pay for if I was charged. The siding that was cut was only removed half way, and I am concerned that there is more pipe damage behind the rest of the siding beyond the point that was exposed for inspection by a plumber. They completed the job when I was not home, so I have no way of knowing if there was any supervision, or if they even attempted to check for further damage. Also, he gave me a choice of 2 colors for the paint, and got quite upset when I questioned if the color was the right choice. He didn't seem to be concerned with inquiring about what I wanted. I don't feel like the plumbing issue has been resolved.
Response from Southern Painting - Austin North

"IN REPAIRING DECAYED SIDING, A SINGLE, ISOLATED PIPE THE BUILDER PLACED TOO CLOSE TO THE SIDING WAS NICKED. WATER SUPPLY WAS TURNED OFF AT THE STREET, THE PIPE WAS REPAIRED, AND THE SIDING REPAIRS COMPLETED. IN RESTORING SUPPLY, THE VALVE WAS APPARENTLY NOT OPENED FULLY, LEADING TO LOW WATER PRESSURE. THE CUSTOMER CALLED THE CITY AND THEY CORRECTED AT THE VALVE. AS THE CUSTOMER INDICATED, WE WILL COVER ANY CHARGE FOR THIS. TO ADDRESS HER CONCERNS ABOUT THE REPAIR, AN ANGIE’S LIST PLUMBER OF HER CHOOSING INSPECTED IT; WE PAID THE PLUMBER AT THE TIME OF THE INSPECTION. HE SAID THE REPAIR WAS DONE CORRECTLY AND ALSO REACHED UP UNDER THE SIDING TO FEEL THAT THERE WAS NO OTHER DAMAGE TO THE PIPE THAT WAS NOT VISIBLE. AT OUR INITIAL MEETING, THE CUSTOMER SPOKE OF CHANGING THE COLOR, AND I SUGGESTED TWO COLORS DESIGNERS OFTEN RECOMMEND TO COMPLEMENT THE ROCK ON HER HOUSE. PRIOR TO JOB START, THE CUSTOMER COULD HAVE CHOSEN ANY COLOR SHE WANTED. AT JOB START, THE CUSTOMER DID NOT MENTION ANY ALTERNATE COLORS, SO WAS AGAIN SHOWN THE PRIOR TWO, AND *SHE* MADE THE COLOR CHOICE. AFTER PAINTING, SHE APPEARED TO REGRET HER CHOICE. AS TENSIONS ESCALATED, MY TONE BECAME ASSERTIVE, NOT HOSTILE, IN RESPONSE TO THE CUSTOMER’S ESCALATING TONE. SOUTHERN PAINTING PRIDES ITSELF ON CUSTOMER SERVICE AND SATISFACTION AND WORK VERY HARD TO RESOLVE ISSUES THAT ARISE. ALL OF OUR CREWS HAVE A WORKING FOREMAN WITH THEM. PLEASE SEE COMMENTS FROM OTHER ANGIE’S LIST CUSTOMERS FOR A BALANCED VIEW."
