I called and traded messages with Sandy, who appears to own the company. When I finally got through to him he apologized for being hard to get to, and said he'd have one of his men call to set up an appointment to give me an estimate for a new pool. The guy never even called back. What a joke. Obviously in over their heads. On their website they have this lofty list of questions they say to ask other pool builders to see if they stack up to Ocean Quest. They should add one more question, and ask it of themselves: Do you even have what it takes to show up and perform a simple estimate? The answer appears to be a very solid "no". Must not want more business.

Stay away. This is the most unprofessionally run business I have ever dealt with. They don't return calls/emails. They are late to appointments or they don't show up at all. Their work is shoddy. The owner takes no responsibility whatsoever and will not return repeated phone calls. I feel sorry for Mel, who is the person who schedules appointments. She should go find another job with a reputable company.

They put me on hold as soon as explained my request, only to find out they do not service above ground pools. . . What's the difference anyway? I just needed it cleaned and proper chemicals added. There are no other pool companies listed for the area we need serviced on Angie's List. :(

On June 16 I called and talked with Jeremy and explained what I needed. He told me that he would have a salesmen call me ASAP. Never happened. Waited a month. Called back on July 18 and again talked to Jeremy. He assured me that he would have John call me right back. Never happened. Called back and talked with a young lady who again gave me a song and dance about why no one called me back. She did nothing. Note to the owner of this outfit, apparently you have all the business you need. I got the feeling I was talking to a bunch of kids who were more interested on what they were going to do this coming weekend. They had no interest in getting you a job than actually doing there job. Very poor communicating skills between salesperson, office staff and customer.

Ocean Quest installed our pool in 2007 and have serviced the pool since 2007.  As pool service goes, they have really done a very nice job.  Like most pool companies during the height of the recession they had some employee turnover, but they have always replaced any turnover with a capable, professional person. Most of our interaction is with the pool servicemen.  They are self-directed, professional, and do a good job.  We don't worry about the pool.  We have done business with Ocean Quest since 2007, they are always responsive to our calls.  If we have an equipment problem or issue with pool, they are on top of it promptly.  The serviceman promptly services the pool every week and always leaves a service report, what he did, the chemistry of the pool, any equipment issues or repairs needed. The service people and front office are always professional and courteous.  The service people are neat and always leave the pool area better than they found it.  They actually do most of the work while we are away. They have access to the pool at all times. Genuine A+ for the service people we have had experience with.

I have used their service for about 10 years. I am an out of state landlord of an Austin property and I have been a 10 year client of Ocean Quest Pools. I have been very satisfied with the care and attention that they give my pool when I am not there. They come out 2 times a month and my tenants love them too. They do a basic care, but they alert me if I need anything else done to the pool. They do a charge to my card and I definitely trust this company.

It was okay. We had some good parts and some bad parts. They had some contractors who were very slow and hard to work with. The good parts was they produced a great design for the pool. The equipment that they put in was top quality. The process though, I left like they didn't have much control on their vendors. We started breaking ground in May and we were not finished until July. Their stone guys, would just not show up for days. The owner of Ocean Quest Pools was just as frustrated as I was, but I could always reach Ocean Quest Pools if I needed them. The symmetry of the stone was key to the look of the pool and they did a great job at it. We now currently use Ocean Quest Pools for our service of our pool once a week and they are always on time and they do a good job.

They are fantastic. They come for me every week. They do cleaning for my pool. They sweep out my pool if I have leaves in it and they do backwash and all the chemicals. If there are any problems they let me know and they will repair it if I need them too. They have been great and have been awesome. One technician always comes out. If I ever have a big issue, I can call and let them know and they will always come before my scheduled time. I trust them with my animals and they are very friendly to them. The price vary, biased off if I supply them the chemicals and or if they have to use theirs. Every time that they come they leave a note letting me know what they have done. At the end of the month they email me the invoice. I wished Angie's List would let me give them an A+ for their quality.

1. Pre construction and construction: The pool design was very well done by Designer Terry Higgins. The construction process was supervised by company owner Sandy Vollentine. Sandy was fairly helpful and responsive during the construction phase, but the work was done by subcontractors who were somewhat undependable and the project completion was 6 weeks late.

2. Post construction: We were happy with the final product, but our opinion of the company changed when in May 2013 we attempted to have some follow-up work done during the warranty period. I left a voicemail for Sandy about some broken stonework, cracked pool deck , and the fact that the 10' overflow line was not installed per the contract (I hadn't discovered this error previously because there was not enough rainfall to require the overflow process). I understood that the stonework and decking were not under warranty, but I wanted his opinion on how to repair them. The overflow line was in the contract and therefore should have been under warranty.

Sandy called me back once and promised to come by in the next week to discuss the problems. He didn't show and did not respond to two additional voicemails I left him.

After several months I again tried to reach Sandy, but when I identified myself, I was told that he was 'out of the office'. I then asked for Construction Facilitator Michael Brown. He called me back and agreed to come by, which he did. He gave me conflicting explanations about why the overflow line was not installed, but did not offer to retrofit it. I had already paid for a private contractor to replace the broken stonework at my expense. Michael stated the he would call 'Rick' (apparently the decking rep) and have Rick call us to schedule the deck repair. That was on September 27, 2013 and we have never heard from either Michael or Rick. I am writing this review on October 25, 2013.

Update 11/7/13 - I received a call from Michael Brown late on 10/25/13 advising me that Ocean Quest would be willing to reimburse us for the cost of the stonework repair, provide us a new portable pool pump, and repair the cracked deck. The pump was delivered and the deck repaired on 11/1/13 and the reimbursement check arrived on 11/7/13. I have increased the Responsiveness rating from F to C.

The technician came to the house and was an hour late because he said he had written the address down wrong. It happens, so I was fine with it. He did a good job of explaining the things he would look for and spoke in terms I could understand as a new pool owner. He came out on a Monday at lunch time and said he would have the written report to me that afternoon. My option period on my home contract was to expire that Friday. When I still didn't have a report in hand Thursday morning I called and asked about it and he acted very put out by it and said that he hadn't been in the office much that week but would have it to me no later than Thursday night. Still didn't have it Thursday night but received it Friday morning. That typically would not have been a problem but he understood that my option period was over on Friday and I had to have that report in hand so that I knew whether or not I was going to include repairs in my contract. I think as far as knowing pools, they certainly do. But I did not feel that my time and urgency was valued as a customer. And I think that 5 days is more than enough time to write up a report, considering he initially said I would have it the same afternoon.

VERY VERY Disappointed. Communication is not their strong point. The owner Sandy obviously takes NO role in the business. After years as a customer My husband called on one of the many annoying weekly calls we have to make and Sandy had no idea who we were or the numerous problems we have had and continue to have. Really ? We have been more than patient over the last 3 years and sadly their service is only getting worse. The invoices are always incorrect and come to find out we have been charged for nearly 2 years for a service I and quot;thoughtand quot; I was getting and wasn't. We are constantly on the phone calling to find out why they haven't shown up at a scheduled day or time, why our pool constantly has algae etc ( up until recently when the finally hired someone who knows what they are doing) We have given them many many opportunities to rectify the problem and sadly they just don't care enough about us as customers or they have so much business they don't care whether they lose customers.


Whatever the problem is sadly I would NOT recommend this company unless you want to spend every week calling them to find out why you're service has not been completed or for that matter done at all. When we are away for weeks at a time and come home to algae infested half full pool/fountain and I'm told and quot;Oh yes the guys have been thereand quot; Ummm No you haven't ! (yes we have security cameras we know when they have been here and when they haven't) But they billed us for it. Hmmm ?


The only positive thing I can say about Ocean Quest is that with all the problems we have had with them dealing with Mel their service rep is the ONLY reason we have stayed as long as we have and Jeff but sadly he isn't there any longer. I hope for their sake they can get it together before they go out of business.

Sadly despite our loyalty and patience we don't expect any response from Ocean Quest or any attempt to rectify the situation. If we do I will be more than happy to update a more satisfactory report. I truly hope they will and prove us wrong.
