They really did a pretty good job as far as the actual work,

My experience with Hot Tar this time around was much different from my first.
(1) Mr. Green intended to coat my metal roof without priming it first.
(When he gave me the price, it was so low that I asked if it included primer, and he said he never uses primer. Maybe it's not really necessary, but every DIY article I found recommends it, and the manufacturers of the roof coatings say to use it, also. I called Mule Hide, the manufacturer of the coating he intended to use, to double-check.)
(2) They primed the roof with the wrong primer, and were about to coat it with the wrong coating when I caught the mistake.
(Rather than the Mule Hide primer we agreed on, they used some other company's product, and instead of the fibrated aluminum coating, they were about to apply NON-fibrated aluminum. Mr. Green said that the store didn't give him what he'd ordered.)
(3) The workers put the buckets of primer and coating directly on the ground, without any cardboard or anything under them, spilling chemicals on the lawn.
My wife was planning on gardening there in the future, but now there are potential toxins to deal with.
(4) They didn't put any drop cloths around the perimeter of the house to catch the drips from the roof. (Any good painter would lay out drop cloths.)
(5) The workers treated our place like a trash can, throwing their cigarette butts on the lawn, even though there was a trash can available.
(6) The next day when I told Mr. Green that I was disappointed that his workers treated our yard like a trash can, not putting cardboard under the buckets, and throwing their cigarette butts on the ground, he said only, "Sorry about that," and walked off. I was kind of shocked at the brevity, and frankly it's what caused me to decide to write this review.
Overall, I still think Mr. Green's company does good work and the prices can't be beat. I just advise paying close attention to some of the details if you're concerned with them.

Fixed the problems caused by the last guy at half the cost of the bid I got from another Angie's List A-rated company (Wilson). Seriously, Wilson bid $3575 vs. Hot Tar's $1700, but I couldn't be more pleased with Hot Tar's work. After accepting their bid they started the work the very next day, ripping out the work done improperly by a previous contractor, and installing the new roof. The skill employed by the workers is visible in the final product -- it's not just installed properly to prevent water infiltration, but it's actually beautiful as well. That might not matter much since nobody is going to be looking at my flat roof, but it gives me a lot of peace of mind, especially after my bad experience with the previous contractor. I wish I'd hired them first.

They are fantastic. I will definitely use them again in the future if I have a need.

They came out right away. They were able fix the issue. It went very well.
