I have never had an experience worse than the one I had with Diamondback Renovations & Painting LLC. My husband and I hired the company in late June of this year on the personal recommendation of our realtor as we were closing on our first home. Sherif Ghaly, the owner of Diamondback Renovations, agreed to do approximately $4000 worth of repairs that had been mentioned in the inspection report we’d received before buying the house. After accepting the funds in escrow, the company began delaying the start date for nearly two months, typically asking for a week or two more each time. Finally, in late August, I met with Mr. Ghaly for our first walkthrough of the house. Although I was frustrated at the delays up until this point, Mr. Ghaly was very friendly when we did our initial walkthrough of the house and said he didn’t have any questions about the work. He assured me he’d be there on September 1st. On that day, Mr. Ghaly texted to let me know that he was running late and would be by at noon, which was frustrating because in person, he’d suggested that he’d be by closer to ten. When noon came around, he called and told me he wouldn’t be coming over because a family member was giving birth. Still, he assured me, his workers would be by without him the following day. No one came at all that week. No one communicated with us that week in any capacity until Sunday the following week, when our realtor got involved. Work was set to start that Tuesday. He did come by on that day with his men. After doing a quick walkthrough with his workers, Mr. Ghaly informed me that they would be running to Home Depot to pick up some supplies, after which work would begin. Although there is a Home Depot within two miles of my house, Mr. Ghaly and his men were gone for nearly five and a half hours. When I texted to ask what was taking so long, Mr. Ghaly sent me a picture of him driving toward my house from the opposite south of the river (we live near 290). He and his men did approximately two hours of work that day. At one point, Mr. Ghaly and his men knocked out the electricity in our living room and kitchen while installing outlets. They did not tell us about this. When we asked, they assured us that they’d handle it. We did not have electricity in those two rooms for nearly a week. When they sent us the invoice, we realized that they had charged us $950 for their blunder. I’m still not sure what that amount went toward. What amounted to three days of work was not completed until September 29th. Sherif never apologized for any of the missed dates. He missed more than half, typically without any kind of warning beforehand. It took him an additional two weeks to send the invoice, which indicated that there was a remaining balance of $220 left over from the original amount we’d paid him. He did not return any funds for another three weeks. In fact, after sending us the invoice, Mr. Ghaly did not communicate with us in any capacity, only sending us a settlement via Venmo when we threatened to sue. In some ways, this experience is the fault of two inexperienced buyers, but rest assured we have learned our lesson. Our hope is that you might learn from it too: This man and his company will not respect your time, your energy, or your home. He will not communicate with you if he disappoints you in some way, which he assuredly will, and he might take money from less savvy buyers. Avoid him at all costs.
