I have used Bowne Electric for at least 15 years, in two different houses.  At my old home, they upgraded the outdoor electrical, installed ceiling fans, light fixtures, added outlets, installed GFCI circuits, etc.  I was very satisfied with the work, as I always have been.  Bowne staff are easy to work with, pleasant and professional.  Bowne was recommended to me by my contractor 15 years ago and I have never used another electrician since that time.

They are very reasonable and they were very fast.  I thought it was good because they went in got it done and got out.

We have used them many times in the past; they do the job and do it right. They solve our problems although they are not cheap. They are the only electricians we use and I will use them again in the future.

I called them for an estimate on installing two ventilating fans in both bathrooms.  They came out promptly, gave us a quote which we approved, and came out at our convenience to install them.  They had to cut a larger space in the ceiling in order to secure the fans properly.  Both the estimator and workers were efficient and professional and cleaned up the few bits of debris that fell down.

The canned lights in several rooms of the house were making a cracking noise. My house is 40 years old, and I knew there were still some traces of aluminum wiring. My husband called first thing in the morning, and a technician arrived before lunch. The technician found that I had the wrong kind of light bulbs in one room. He went up in the attic to check the wiring, and he found that the cans did have newer copper wiring. He also discovered extra insulation at the tops of many of the cans, causing them to heat up faster. He explained that the cans were metal, and the rims were metal. The cracking sound came from when they expanded and contracted. The technician was young, and when he had questions, he did not hesitate to call his supervisior.
I appreciated how he did not pretend to know everything and how he had such a good working relationship with his supervisor.
The technician replaced the light bulbs in the master bedroom and checked the rest of the cans in several rooms.
I was also concerned about two light switches. He checked both and replaced only the one that needed to be replaced.

We worked with Eric Zimmerman as Bowne's representative on our job, and he is a pleasure to work with, very reliable and very professional.  The electricians Eric sent our were always polite, friendly and competent.  Very importantly, Eric was proactive about schedules, he anticipated what needed to be doneand planned and executed so that everything happened on time.  We had two other companies involved in our remodel, a general contractor, Ferguson, and a cabinet supplier, KitchnCraft (we've reviewed both).  Eric worked with both of these companies to schedule work, pull permits and schedule inspections.   Eric was always reachable by both phone and email and was very prompt in his responses.  His written estimates were always clear, sufficiently detailed, and to the point.  We are very pleased with the work.

Representative called previous Friday to be sure there was no emergency. Once confirmed, advised would call and be here on Monday (24th). Called first and were right on time. Went through the list of items needing attention; went to work and completed entire list in about 2 hours or so. All completed and working well.

I called and set up an appointment to review my electrical problems and the call was handled throroughly and professionally. They called me before my appointment day to let me know they had an opening so I met them at my house 15 minutes later. The electricians interviewed me about the problems I was having which made me feel they were very thorough. They suggested a solution of replacing the breakers and said if that turns out to be unsuccessful, I may need to run another circuit. They replaced the breakers and completed the job start to finish in about 15 minutes. I have had no problems in the month since they performed the work. I felt the price was a little higher than other electricians (based on reviewing others on Angie's list) but it was worth it to me that they were nearby and very professional. I will hire them again for any electrical needs.

I needed a 100 amp feed run from my supply panel to a building about 100 feet away. I had the trenching done by another company so in theory the electricians just needed to run some conduit and wire and install a new panel on my building. They had given me an estimate which I thought was reasonable for the work. When they arrived and examined the trenching that had been done, they showed me a couple places where the depth was insufficient and others where the trench did not reach close enough to the building. One of the guys spent half the day with the jack hammer extending and widening the trenches. They put the conduit in, but the trenches had a couple bends that were sharper than we had planned for. They managed, with a lot of extra work, to get the cables pulled in spite of the less than optimum trenching. They got the panel installed and all of my circuits connected, and left around dark. I know they spent more time there than we had anticipated. Nonetheless, they held the price to the estimate they had given me. I would call them again.

Setting up the appointment went exceedingly well. We called in mid-afternoon and were delighted to be told that an electrician could come and do the work the following morning. The office kept us informed of the electrician's estimated arrival time, giving us approximately 30-45 minutes' notice. Unfortunately, the electrician who did the work apparently has an extreme aversion to reading installation directions. The fan we purchased is a high-end model with numerous decorative pieces and a sophistocated remote control system. Instead of consulting the directions, which clearly laid out which pieces went where in step-by-step fashion, the electrician first hung the fan motor without installing either the upper, lighted glass shade or the remote control transmitter. When my husband and I (who were looking at the picture of our fan and eyeballing the number of unused pieces still lying on the counter) pointed out the discrepancies, he essentially had to un-do all his previous work and start over. Even more discouraging was that he made another time-consuming mistake for the exact same reason while installing the light kit. On the upside, we're pretty sure we were cut a break on the billing. (He was here an awfully long time for what we ended up being charged.) And we have a beautiful new, flawlessly operating fan.
Response from Bowne Electric Inc

"We agree that the electrician that performed the work at this customer's home should have handled the installation of her fan more efficiently. We sincerely regret that this customer's experience with our electrician was less than satisfactory but appreciate this customer's feedback. We hope that in the future we are afforded the opportunity to provide this customer with the kind of quality work that our company's reputation has been built upon."

The technician arrived. He took his boots off so not to track dirt on the carpet. He determined that the outlet should be replaced. We told him that we had already replaced the outlet on our own and that it was something else. He was able to determine it was a short. He had a tough time fishing wire down the wall. You could tell it was frustrating him; or maybe it was the fact the job was going to take longer than he originally thought. He wasn't overly personable, but the job seems to have been done correctly. There is now a hole in the dry wall where he cut in to fish wire, but this is SOP for all electricians I'm told. We will need to patch it on our own. He had to make phone calls a couple of times to ask questions on what to do for the next part of the job. If the technician was more personable and knowledgeable, we would have scored Bowne an A for overall experience.

Came out promptly when called. Provided an estimate quickly. Did the work when scheduled and at the estimated prices. The manager/detailer is really a nice guy, professional, not a hard sale guy. The workers were pleasant, clean and cleaned up after themselves. I had a great experience with this company and will use them again if I have electrical needs.

Eric did a thorough evaluation of the job before giving a proposal. Examined attic clearances, existing switching, etc. Way more thorough than two other proposals I received. The other bidders did not even go in the attic or remove any switch plates to see what they were dealing with. The other bidders told me that the cost would have to be adjusted if there was not enough room for a wire here, or a switch there. Eric determined everything up front. The electricians who performed the work were John and Ruth. They arrived on time and did a fantastic job in exactly the amount of time proposed. They were very professional and treated my family and my house with courtesy and respect. I would recommend them without hesitation. I will definitely use Browne again.

I called to make an appointment. After explaining my problem, the man on the phone helped me fix it. There was a problem with a cord I had plugged in to an outside outlet. I didn't actually use them for service, but they were so helpful on the phone I will definitely call back.

Brock and his helper Ben arrived a few minutes before our scheduled start time. The first task was to determine if the exhaust fan install was even possible (another electrician gave up on it because of the cramped attic configuration). We came up with a plan and they went to work. It took two to fish the flex-duct through the tight space in the attic. After that, Brock did most of the fan work and Ben worked on the plugs and lights. They worked steadily, completed the work and cleaned up in less than 3.5 hours.

Bowne was very responsive when I called them and set up an appointment a few days after the call. The electrician showed up exactly at the designated time. The work was to put in an outlet box after some inept contractor had removed an older box and then could not figure how to put it back on when he found an extra wire was attached that he didn't expect. The electrician from Bowne (didn't catch his name, it was early) quickly figured out which wires were needed and which were not and put in a new box. The box didn't fit the hole in the tile so he chipped a tiny bit of tile out to make the newer box fit to replace the old box which was 50 years old. He was very resourceful to figure it all out and get it replaced in a short amount of time. He also fixed the back porch light by just straightening some tabs inside the outlet that had gotten bent back and did not charge for that. The new outlet looks good like it has always been there and he cleaned up the dirt that came off the old wires and fell on our counter. It was good to have this gaping hole in our counter with exposed wires finally fixed in a professional manner.

Our heat/vent/light unit in our master bath stopped working. So we contacted Bowne Electric from Angie's List. JD performed the work. The work was done great! JD showed up on time and completed the work in just over an hour. He also cleaned up after he was done. We've had no problems with the unit ever since.
