Best Austin Handyman & Remodeling

The Handyman jobs came first back in late February, and I sent pictures of ceiling stains and wall crack to the office and got an estimate of hours. As I saw what a good job they did, the jobs kept expanding. Charlie & Jasper worked quickly and efficiently, and knew exactly how to tackle these jobs. After seeing how effectively they completed the 'handyman' jobs, how well they worked together, and how well they cleaned up the area, I asked about some other things I'd been putting off in my 19-year-old house. The outdoor patio lighting fixtures needed replacing, along with an old track light in one room. Having a two-man crew here allowed Jasper to work on replacing lights, while Charlie worked on removing the bedroom wall and rerouting electrical, with help available from Jasper when he needed someone up in the attic. They seemed to have a good sense of scheduling their work, and I really appreciated having the same team here for all of this work. The final result looks great, and they even gave me the name of a carpet installer they've used to patch small areas like this--he was good too. They also had Kevin here for one day while they removed the 5 or 6-year-old, poorly constructed stone flowerbed walls, chipped off the old mortar, and carefully laid out the stones in the right order to be replaced. I gathered that this wasn't something they'd had much experience with, but they all did a great job and the end result looks much better. The only minor problem was with a mixup on scheduling one day, and 9 a.m. arrival times that were usually closer to 10. I do live a ways out of town, though, and they sometimes had to stop for supplies. Charlie finally started telling me they'd be here between 9 and 10--a much better answer. I've now purchased some additional indoor light fixtures, and will be calling tomorrow to see about scheduling installation with 'my' crew. They're great!

I purchased a deal through Angie's List for 2 hrs of handyman labor. I sent an email to the company and someone called to set the appointment and said I would get a call a few days before to go over materials and the project. The day before the appointment, I called to let them know I had questions and wanted a follow up call. I wanted to make sure I had the materials on hand so that my purchased time was not spent on supply runs. I did get a call back and my questions were answered but I found out that 2 men were coming to do the work and that meant 1 hour with 2 men instead of 2 hours with one for the price I had paid. The good news is that additional time was billed at the same rate and the strength of 2 men were actually needed to complete the project, so it all worked out.The first worker arrived 15 minutes early and the 2nd man was 15 minutes late and that's why I rated punctuality a B. The other B was for price which was probably fair, it just seemed a little high to me. But, then I've never used handyman services of any type before. Both handymen were polite, worked at a good and steady pace and checked in with me as things progressed to make sure I was satisfied with the work. They made french cleats to hang two heavy cabinets up high above my garage door tracks. They cut the wood cleats, installed them level in place and then hoisted the cabinet units up onto the cleats. They also installed two panels of slatwall. One had metal inserts, was about 8 feet tall and weighed over 80 lbs. The other was about 4 X 4 without inserts and still required more than one person to get it attached to the wall. The only thing they needed and did not bring was a stud finder. I offered mine for use and they made do, but the work could have progressed more quickly if they brought one they were familiar with. They ended up not billing for all of the time they were there working. Overall, I was pleased with their services and would use them again and recommend them to anyone looking for handymen.

I was very pleased with this company.

The handyman arrived almost on time. A few minutes he arrived, he told me he forgot to bring a stud finder that I particularly asked to bring in the email I sent them a few days earlier. Then, he asked me if I want to get one or I want him to get one. I told him that he's responsible to get one, but he needs to subtract the time he spends for the errand. He came back half an hour later. He started working on installing 2 rails of FASTTARACK and assembling a shelf for garage. When I checked 20 minutes later, I saw a little progress. At that point, I was kind of disappointed. HOWEVER, he got much faster and I found his work very detailed. After all, his work was beyond my expectations. I was very happy that I found them.

It went great. Two service folks were there which made it go faster. Very happy with the service.

They did a great job. I have no problems with what they did. What I liked is that when I called them, they came promptly. I had an issue one day with one of the workers, it wasn't a big issue. I called the boss and they fixed it right away. They were really good. I would recommend them.

Sean called me the night before the work to verify what he was going to be working on and remind me of the appointment time. He actually showed up early so that was great. He didn't just barrel through or rush the project he stopped and asked me questions when he was uncertain how I wanted things set up. He had to go get some screws at a nearby Lowes because he felt the ones that came with the fans were unsafe. He went back and quickly redid some of the ceiling fans that had the questionable screws. At the end of the job he took off 1/2 hour of work time for the quick trip to Lowes and redoing some of the screws on fans he had already done. I really appreciated Sean's concern with safety and quality of work. I would definitely hire Best Austin Handyman again and hopefully get Sean to come out. Keep up the great work guys!

I was happy with them. They came and did the work.

Derrik came out to do the estimate and was very knowledgeable and professional in giving the estimate. The company evidently has more than one crew. The man that came to do the fence was a bit scattered. I had to remind him of things he missed doing. He did a good job of what he did but required watching. The gentleman that did the power washing of the front of my house also did some mortar repair in places where the power washer knocked loose bits. He did a great job. The wooden box was not quite done to the standard I had hoped but done well enough. I am not sure who did that particular bit. Communication from the guy giving the estimate and the others seemed to be lacking but they did great work once they were all on the same page. Overall They did a good job.

very polite, nice guys. but wouldn't use them again. they didn't correctly assess the need for 2 workers to accomplish the ceiling light re-hang, so i ended up spending an extra $30 to have another of their employees come help the original guy. i also wasted about an hour of my time being the "second worker" until the actual second worker arrived. if they had correctly surmised at the beginning of the job that it would take two people, they could have finished it w/in the coupon's designated timeframe, and I wouldn't have had to pay an extra $30 probably.

It was A+. They were very professional, did fantastic work, did a lot of the work without me being there. They were on time and I would use them again.

the main guy spent a lot of time telling me why they couldn't do one thing after another.

I was really happy with the quality of the work, the people were excellent, pricing was reasonable.

He was pleasant and got right to the work. But it took him quite a bit of time to hang the Afican items.

I purchased an Angie's list deal for 2 hours of work for $75.00. A description of the work requested and photos were emailed to Dan of Best Austin Handyman for some rotted siding repair and/or rotted baseboard and trim repair and painting. Sean Henry completed the work, and he called me the night before the job to go over the prospective work. He also gave me his email address and I sent him the photos. He showed up on time the next morning, and he was friendly and knowledgeable. We went over the places that needed work. I was sure that some rotted siding would need to be replaced over the garage, but he told me that it was due to squirrels rather than water rot and there was also an option to patch the slight damage with wood putty and repaint. This was great news since it would cost less for this repair. I asked Sean's advice regarding a wider baseboard, and he thoroughly and patiently answered all of my questions, and explained the options I had for the repair work and preventative steps that I could take to prevent further damage after the repairs were done. We went to the store, and purchased the supplies very quickly. He also went above the call of duty in repairing a flat to my car that happened along the way, rather than using my roadside assistance service. Sean was awesome, and I am very happy with the work performed that day.

I knew that they charged by the hour so I had purchased the fence posts and 100 pounds of cement. I then emailed them to confirm that I had sufficient supplies. They emailed me to tell me who was assigned to the job, and they would call me ahead of time to confirm what was needed for the job....they never called, but did show up at the scheduled time. When they dug out the first two posts they found out the hard way that the old concrete had been poured over the irrigation pipes. The pipe was broken and they had turn the water main off to stop the flood. Then they had to go out and buy parts to fix the pipe. I don't blame them for this, and expected a couple of extra hours added to the job. What I didn't expect was that they would be so unprepared and inefficient. They wasted more time when they couldn't get they cement out of the ground and had to go somewhere to get a jackhammer. They were not prepared for rocks? In Austin? Come on! The billing also included approximately $90 in supplies. When I asked to see the receipt, they could only find one for $60 but assured me it was legitimate billing....and then I saw a Red Bull was also on the receipt. Small thing,yes, but goes to the lack of integrity. These guys worked all day Thursday and then had to come back Friday to finish the job...all for 4 fence posts. There's more to the story, but I think you have the idea. Lastly, when I complained to the main office/guy he assured me he would find out what was going on and let me know what they could do to remedy this. I have never head back from him. Needless to say, I don't recommend these guys.

Excellent experience. Because of Angie's List special I received a discount on the bill. This saved us quite a bit of money. The appointment was set up via phone after reading reviews on Angie's List and they call to reconfirm the day before. The handymen arrived as scheduled and started to work. Shortly after a supervisor came by to check with me on how things were going, etc. The old attic ladder was removed and new one installed with no problem. Both handymen did an excellent, professional job. The area was cleaned up after completion and we are completely satisfied with all aspects of using Best Austin Handyman. We will definitely use them again.

He came on time and reap aired the fence and stained my garage door. It came out very well. He purchased the stain for me and I decided to have him stain my porch and shutters as well. He did a good job.

When I spoke to one of their reps over the phone, he said he would send a subcontractor over to give me a bid. The electrician never came. When I called them again, they said they had no record of speaking with me, had no idea who I was, and complained that I didn’t call them on the day of the appointment to complain about the fact that the electrician didn’t show up. I called Angie's List back to verify this is the same company I scheduled the appointment with and from their website it appears to be the correct one.

They were fine but a little pricey.

I expected the crew at 9A, but they arrived at 10A. The person that scheduled the job called and apologized about the scheduling mistake. After that, it was smooth sailing. Jared, John and Kyle arrived. We walked through the house and discussed the areas to be repaired. We also discussed other areas of the house needing repairs for which I wanted an estimate. I liked that they offered several suggestions for fixes which allowed me to make well-informed decisions. They came up with a list of items I needed to purchase at Home Depot. Jared went over the pricing with me and left shortly afterwards. John and Kyle prepped while I went to Home Depot. I returned and they kept plugging along. John and Kyle were very friendly and approachable. They did break for lunch and finished about 2 hours after that. They were careful and cleaned all the areas where they worked. completing the job before 4P. I'm satisfied with the work that was done. I will definitely use them again.

I had them fix a leaking toilet. Initially, I wasn’t happy with work they did since the toilet started leaking again pretty quickly. I gave them a call back and they sent someone new out who fixed the leak and didn’t charge anything extra.

Shawn came as promised. He is *very* friendly, knowledgeable, and professional. I would definitely hire him again! He repaired damages made by an uninvited house guest (possum), using higher grade material. He surveyed the damages and went to the store to get the materials. He called me with choices, once he found out what the options were for materials. He was diligent in his work and seemed not to mind the weather (cold and wet), and he worked through lunch.
