He is excellent. He was wonderful. We got him from Angies list and we have been 1000% pleased with him, he was just great. He was out here recently to sign some paper work because we had a roof that was hail damaged and the ceiling got moist and he is going to replace that. He was out here to sign paper work for that for the insurance purposes. He came to do one specific job, but then we got to talking and this guy ended up painting more spaces and replaced the ceiling in a room. He ended up doing a lot of things and I have no idea how much we spent. We chose him in the beginning because of his recommendations on the list and we were looking at several contractors. His was the cost that came in the best, so we think he is well priced. He had come and done some exterior painting for us one year and we really liked the way he did things and he cleaned up so well. They kept good hours and they were so careful with their brush strokes and it was just beautiful. When the time came to do the interior work, we had some damaged that had to be repaired. We had some water leaks and had that patched up and also had some ceilings that needed to repainted and that was how that started doing interior work for us. Everything they have done has been top quality.

A very detailed estimate with explanations on how the various aspects of the job would be done. A start date was established that fit my schedule. The workers arrived on time to perform the work and conducted themselves in a very professional and courtious manner. All the work was done meticulously and with care not to damage any shrubs or other property. Cleanup after the project was very thorough.
A walk-around to inspect the final work found a couple minor things that were dealt with immediately.
I certainly recommend McLains for any painting or other projects in which they specialize.

No one showed up for the appointment to give me an estimate. I called nearly a week ahead and scheduled an appointment for Monday morning at 8 a.m. - at 8:20 a.m. I made my first phone call to the office. Very polite answering service said they would relay the message to the office and have someone call me. At 8:35 I called again, this time the phone was answered by the gentleman I had talked to when scheduling the appointment. I asked him if I had the right day/time because no one had called nor shown up. His response was he would call Mr. McClain and find out where he was and call me right back. At 8:45 I called the office again and told them to cancel the appointment because I needed to get to work.
I gave them several days to call me and I have heard nothing. They have been marked off of my list of possible service providers.

Everything went smoothly from start to finish. The owner and his employees were very responsive, friendly, reliable and trustworthy. They did an excellent job and showed up on time and worked very hard. The quality of their work was outstanding and they even cleaned up during the job (such as cleaning baseboards, etc.) and after the jobs were completed. I highly recommend McLain's Painting and plan to use them again in the future.

The experience was good and they did the job really well. The owner was extremely responsive; he was very friendly and informative. We had a very complicated house; the painter said that this was the most complicated house they have painted. It is because of our high roofline and the shape of the roofline. I already knew it was complicated so I wanted to find someone who was bonded and insured. I will use him again in the future.

Everything went smoothly from the estimate, to the contract, to the selection of colors with the color consultant. Charles notified me of the tentative start date and this was confirmed by Todd, the crew chief. The crew arrived punctually each day and got right to work. They did their job cheerfully and efficiently and cleaned up at the end of each day. They moved my furniture quickly and covered the floors and furniture left in the rooms. They had the proper equipment and were careful with the paint. Good job!

We had several different companies come out and give us estimates. Mclain's painting was the highest of all the bidders, but it was well worth the extra cost. The one thing that sold me on this company was when Charles Mclain said that every worker that he hires has a drug screen and back ground check. This especially made me feel good about his workers because I'm home with two small children most of the day while my husband is at work. Charles said that he wouldn't want his wife and children around people he didn't trust. Out of everyone I've had work for me in the past 6 years not one company has ever said that they screen their employees.
Once the work was started they were at the job site very early everyday trying to complete the job in a timely matter. They were also very respectful of my children and myself. Once they found out I worked night shift they would make sure they didn't bother me and tried to work around different areas of the exterior so I could sleep. They also worked around my child's nap time so that they didn't disturb her. Never has anyone I've hired cared about my sleep schedule. Also I left my house several times to take my children places and felt very comfortable about leaving my belongings unattended. They made sure my house was never left unattended while I was not at home when they needed the doors and windows unlocked.
Everything that is in the contract that Charles said he would do they have done. All the workers made sure I was happy with the work that was being done everyday asking me several times. That made me feel like they cared about their work. My house looks amazing now. I would recommend this company to everyone. They might be a higher price, but the quality of the work is just extraordinary.

Overall it was a good experience. They did an excellent job on painting the exterior of the house and it is beautiful. We wanted a different trim around the door than the rest of the house and they didn't have any problem with that. Our decks are very large. We have two decks that run the whole length of the house so they are gigantic. They got them sealed. The only complaint we had with them is that our upper deck doesn't have a stairway and the only way you can access it is to go through the house. They talked us into allowing them to use a bleach wash on the deck before they sealed it. It is common but we were hesitant because we have a lot of plants and bird feeders. Apparently they use a dry bleach kind of product and while they were very careful carrying it through the house and were very careful to wipe their feet off, some small little dry dots of that bleach must have flown off onto the carpeting. They had to go through the house to do the work but I have some small bleach spots on my carpet. They did try desperately to resolve this issue. They had a carpet company come over and work on it like six different times but the dyes wouldn't take on the carpet. At some point I got tired of them coming over to try to fix it. Because the carpet is 7 years old I didn't want to push for them to replace the carpet so I let it go. With that being said, they did do a good job and they did try to resolve the issue. I am thinking about rehiring them to paint the ceilings on the inside of my house and see if they will cut me a little slack on the price since the carpet still has spots on it. The price was very reasonable for the amount of work they had to do. I stood there and watched them wipe their feet off but apparently there were bits of bleach because I don’t use bleach at home.

They seem to be very easy to work with. They are responsive to what I am asking them to do. The quote process has gone fine with them and they have bent over backwards because I'm having problems with another contractor so I've had to put them off for a bit.

We spent probably $5000 on that service. They were really neat and they covered the bases. It looked like a brand new house when they were finished and they were probably the best interior painters we have ever had. There are no issues with the work they did and they also said that they would come back if there was a problem. We have actually used them three times already.

Charles McLain treated the exterior of my house when it was brand new, before I bought it. When the house was a couple of years old, I bought it, and by the time the house was 3 years old, the exterior needed repainting! This is an unreasonably short time for an exterior job to last, of course, but I had to protect my home, so I started interviewing painters and, by chance, he was one of the people I interviewed (I'd never heard his name before) It would've been ironic; if I'd hired him, since I would've been paying min to fix his own blunder. So interviewed 3 painters and got estimates, and he gave a quote that seemed like the best deal. I hired him, and the other painters went off to do other work. After 2 days, McLain announced that he'd "make a terrible mistake in his estimate" and would be unwilling to complete the job without a substantial increase in price, else "he'd be forced to walk away from the job". Of course, this is illegal, not to mention very unfair to the other, honest bidders, so I told him to go. It wasn't till later, when I happened to bump into the original owners, that I learned he'd been the original painter who'd bungled the job in the first place! I believe he's willing to say absolutely anything to get as many dimes out of your pocket and into his. I'd recommend him to no one.

I do not recall [this member] as a client nor do we have her in our data base. We strive to treat our customer’s home just like it is our own, by protecting their investment with only quality paint that will last longer than three years. They job went very well. They helped us select paint colors. Very professional work and there was no pushback on repairs or touch up. Very neat with little damage to plantings and few drips. The extra work (repairs and second coat on gutters) was reasonably priced. Painters were polite, responsive and kept us in the loop on progress or questions. The job took a bit longer than they anticipated, but they spent the time to make sure we were happy. McLain's was the lowest price of 4 bidders. We were very pleased with the work and felt we got good value for the price.

He came out for an estimate. The $5000 asking price was more than double what it cost 3 years ago for one coat from Master Piece painters on the same house. I realize I need 2 coats to change the color but the previous contractor did it for less than $2000 for one coat and that included repairs to the window framing. A second coat at the most should be $500 for paint and maybe $1000 for labor making about $3000 to $3500 a fair bid. Not some $5000 price gouging. Also, that $5000 did not include wood repair. What a waste of my time.

His team arrived professionally attired in McLain white tshirts and power washed the house. Two people were to have come back the next day to wipe down the gutters and to begin painting 2 coats on the painted areas. Only one worker showed up, but did a great job and began the painting. The next day, the second person still did not show up, but the one worker continued to do a great job and eventually finished it up on her own, with a bit of help on the last day. My only complaint (minimal) is that the job took longer than planned. But McLain's schedule also got backed up due to the heavy rains we had just experienced. Overall: a great job.

I got a prompt estimate and an accurate start date (in spite of wet weather). Other estimaters told us we would need only one coat of paint, but we were sure that the south side would need a second coat. Charles was the only one who provided an estimate that included a second coat on the south--which it did need. Power washing was done quickly and carefully. I have lots of landscaping near the house and the workers were careful to avoid major damage. One painter arrived shortly after the power washing was done; the other arrived a day or so later (he was finishing up another job delayed by rain). Painters were careful; we can't find any sloppy drips or spills. We were very satisfied with the repair and refinishing done on our front door--work that had previously been botched by the contractor. Workers cleaned up each night and left no mess. Charles came around several times to check on progress. The price was a little higher than that of some other estimates, but the quality of work described in the estimate was not just a quick fix up, but a long lasting quality job. Charles McLain has built a fine business. He manages his crews with careful attention to detail and works to ensure that they do a careful job. We are perfectionists, and Charles comes through very well with respect to attention to detail. His work comes with a warranty which he honors.
