Mays Paving did poor work on a driveway repair on March 25, promised to fix it on March 27 or 28, and still has not shown up to do the work (it is now May 16). My husband was fed up and apparently made the receptionist angry--she hung up on him. I tried giving the office a call, hoping that maybe I could de-escalate the situation and make some sense of this runaround we are getting, because at this point I would actually prefer to just get a refund and hire a more reliable company to do the work. However, the receptionist was on the warpath with me once she figured out who I was. She was very articulate about letting me know that my husband was "very rude" to her and "hurt her feelings" and then she tried to school me on how to get things done. Apparently you get things done by "working with people and not tearing them down." It was like a time warp to citizenship training in elementary school, but with a person who isn't very knowledgeable and who clearly is really emotionally bent out of shape. It was hilarious to be told that we should "work with people" when we have been WAITING for them to just show up and correctly do the small patch job that they totally botched nearly two months ago. It was interesting, though, when she mentioned, "I deal with this all the time." I think that's a key issue here, perhaps if she is having to deal with this all the time then there is something wrong with the way business is being done in this company--because there is really no excuse for this. That must be an unpleasant working situation for her, but it doesn't sound like she has much of a job anyway because she says that "All I do is sit here and answer the phone"--so I guess she's got time to deal with disgruntled customers. During her lecture about her disapproval of my husband's behavior and demeanor in their prior conversation, I did try to ask about a refund but apparently the only way to get that is to talk to "the estimator" or "her boss" who are never in the office and have been supposed to contact us since March 27 and haven't. At this point, we are going to work on disputing the charge with the credit card company, because this is fraud.

The paving job was great, but they graded the driveway wrong. About a month after the job was completed, we had a rainstorm that flooded our house due to the run off. I contacted Bill Mayes about the problem and they came out and dug a french drain between the house and driveway, but left without completing the drain. They never came back and after trying to contact them multiple times, I had to complete the job myself.

After getting 3 estimates, we hired Mays because their response was prompt, their price landed in the middle, and their proposal listed the tasks they'd perform to patch the two holes in our driveway from a sewer line replacement. After accepting, it took them at least two weeks to put us on their schedule. When they arrived, the crew acted confused about whether they were supposed to repave or patch the driveway. They patched the holes but didn't cut the existing asphalt into an even rectangle per the proposal. Instead of fitting neatly inside the hole, the patch lays two inches above the existing driveway and is crumbly on the edges, leading us to wonder if it's sealed properly. Their asphalt machine also left several oil stains in our driveway. Mays knocked $100 off the price because they "did us a favor" and didn't cut holes in the driveway, but I believe this was a cover for their mistake. The largest hole has since caved in, revealing no gravel inside. Very disappointing.

They were efficient, and they didn't tear up the rest of the yard. They did a really great job and the price was a blessing. They showed up on time, and they paved the garage floor in a timely manner.

I think this company was very good. They did my driveway with ease. The workers were very polite they asked me exactly what I wanted done to make sure they did the right thing. They had good customer service.
