TV Repair
Weeks went by and no word. Dad called the shop and they told him they would get right back to him. OL called a few days later and said the power supply needed to be replaced and gave Dad a ~$250 estimate. Dad told them to go ahead with repairs. Another week went by and no word from OL. Dad called back and OL said they would have to order a power supply for the TV and they didn't know when it would be in. Said they would call when it came in. Again after a week or two, no word. Dad called again and OL said they were waiting for the part. The owner was not happy that Dad was inquiring about status of repairs and made this known on the phone. When Dad asked for any replaced parts back, the owner told him he wouldn't give them back because "he had to make a little money". OL finally called mid December and said the TV was ready to pick up. When Dad went to pick it up, the owner told him "I don't want to see you arond here anymore". Incredible! By the way, they don't take credit cards either, only cash and checks. Dad took the TV home and hooked it up; same problem existed. Repairs had a 30 day warranty. Waited about a week to verify problem still was there and then called OL to report; TV was now about 14 days into the warranty period. OL said to bring it back in. This is when I got more involved. I checked the price of the power supply by model number on-line and the on-line price was the same as they charged Dad originally. It was available in-stock from multiple electronic parts supply businesses with two day shipping for a nominal fee. I went over to Dad's and helped check all connections to ensure there wasn't another explanation for the continued problems. Nothing we did made any difference; same problem with the picture. Almost as if they hadn't done any repairs. Took videos of the picture problems to document and called OL to tell them we were bringing back in. They said they would make it right. Got there and they were as nice as could be. We could barely find a place to put the TV in the shop because of what looked to be 50 or 60 TVs, stereos, computers, etc. taking up every inch of floor and shelf space. OL rep (not owner) said they would "give the repairs top priority because we take re-work very seriously and want our customers to be happy with our service". OL mentioned that the replacement power supply they had installed previously was re-manufactured vs. new. Ya think? We asked that they call Dad when it was ready and they agreed. So we left feeling a bit better. Over the next month, same song and dance from OL. Dad would call; they would tell them they were on it. Then said they were waiting for a new power supply. OL finally called in early Feb. to say it was ready. I asked them to hook it up and show us the picture when we got there. They assured us they had run the TV for hours and it was OK. I insisted they show us the picture when we got there. The owner was angry and said "I guess I can re-arrange my whole shop so I can get to a connection to show this picture to you." Anyway got there and they had to move several TVs around to get to a connection; picture looked good as new. Took it to Dad's and hooked up; still looks good today. Bottom line: don't waste your time with OL. They're slow, rude; over promise and under perform. When you have to inquire multiple times about status, they're verbally aggressive and insulting, bordering on threatening. Their shop is a complete mess and it appears they take in more work than they can accomplish expeditiously and correctly. You can't put repairs on a credit card, so you're stuck with having to take poor work back to them vs. canceling charges on your card and taking your business elsewhere. The price for service and parts was fair and they apparently didn't charge for shipping the repair parts.
