Lane Thompson Heating & Cooling

We were in such dread that our entire unit was fried - it's so old that anytime anything goes wrong we think it's the end.  Further, again because the unit is so old, we're always concerned that technicians will try to talk us into more work than is needed.  Tina, the tech from Lane Thompson, put our immediate fears to rest.  It turned out that an earwig had obstructed an electrical connection, which had disabled the unit; she removed the obstruction and got the unit working again.  She also added some coolant to the unit. 
While we were glad and relieved not to have to replace the unit immediately, Tina did give us a reminder of what we knew - that our unit would likely need to be replaced sooner rather than later.  Her confirmation of this concern will allow us to prepare for the expense, so we appreciated her comprehensive approach to the visit.

Turned on AC unit for first time this season on Sat with house guests coming on Sun; and lower/larger unit wouldn't work.  Phoned Franklin who came out that day and diagnosed a leak in copper pipe in outside compressor.  I forwent the additional $300 for weekend repair.  Tina came out Mon morning and completed repairs of copper, replacing gas and dryer.  Also diagnosed a problem with a fan relay that they replaced at no additional charge.  I'm very happy with their service.  Except for the (fair) costs involved with AC unit repairs, it's always a pleasant experience dealing with Franklin's company.

This was my first time using Lane Thompson.  I chose them because of the reviews on Angie's List.  I called at 8:00 am and left a message.  Franklin Lane called me back at 8:30.  He said he would stop by sometime that day.  He called back at 9:30 and came over. He found the problem and gave me a price.  We discussed the age of the unit (23 years) and the pros and cons of repairing versus replacing such an old unit.  I decided to repair at this time.  He pulled the fan, went and got the needed part and had it repaired before noon.  He also did an inspection of the outdoor unit to make sure it was operating properly.  To be honest, I was surprised that he got by and had if fixed so fast.  He was very professional.  I asked about a service contract and he was honest enough to tell me that with a unit that old, it would be a waste of money.  It could last a year or two or it could go out before he got down the road.  
When the time comes to replace the unit, and I know it is coming, I will definitely use Lane Thompson.  We bought the house knowing we would have to replace it soon.  I think Franklin Lane bought us a little time before having to take that step.

Mr. Lane was prompt and willing to answer any questions I had.  He was very thorough as he determined why the heat pump was not cooling.  He gave me options and recommendations for servicing the unit.  I chose to add freon, and he weighed the tank with digital scales before and after adding coolant.  He checked temperature readings both inside and outside the house to make sure the unit was cooling properly.  He took the time to answer any questions I had about my current system and provided information for system replacement for the future.  I will definitely call him for any future needs as he was honest, professional, and skilled in his work.

Used Lane Thompson several years ago in Kingsport and was very pleased.  Moved back to the area and had two issues, one inside leak and one outside leak, that I couldn't fix, myself.  L-T actually called to say they'd finished a job earlier than expected and would it be okay if they came to my house early.  Of course it was.  Looked at both issues and explained what he'd do if it was "his" house - neither were the most expensive option.  I accepted advice and both leaks were fixed in under two hours - including a trip to the local hardware store to buy a replacement inside valve.  As of two weeks later, no issues.

Technician was on time, very professional, and knew what he was doing. Fixed my heat pump in no time.

ANOTHER SATISFIED CUSTOMER!  Lane Thompson was one of three companies I called for heat pump estimates.  Of the sales representatives I talked to, Franklin Lane set himself apart from the others.  During the "interview" he was the only one that asked if there were any problems we were having with our existing system.  One of the biggest issues was our living/dining area was hotter or colder than the rest of the house.  He looked at the configuration of the registers and recommended we add one in the great room and close off one in the master bedroom.  He also indicated the addition of dampers would allow the system to be "balanced" to provide more consistent airflow.  Throughout the entire process he communicated with us on a regular basis making sure we were keep up to date on what was going on.  His installation crew was equally informative.  The bottom line is this company is a group of professional individuals who care about their reputation, do high quality work, and look to develop long term business relationships.  They have earned my highest possible recommendation.

A/C unit was not cooling, needed help ASAP.  After checking Angies List I called Lane Thompson and talked to Franklin.  He was at my door in 20 minutes.  He gave a thorough check of the unit and found a Freon leak.  I was given a number of options with no pressure to do anything. The unit was cleaned and charged and my house was cooling in about 30 minutes.  I would highly recommend this company for its prompt and professional service.  I will definitely call them for any future needs. 

Selected this company based on Angies list recommendations and was not disappointed in the result.  Franklin Lane lived up to the reviews.  He was prompt, efficient, and thorough.  I've dealt with a multitude of A/C companies in past decades and would not recommend a single one of them to someone else, almost exclusively due to the strong gut feeling that I was being taken for repairs that were not needed.  I didn't have that intuition with Franklin.  He was quick to recommend the modifications I could do myself that would prolong the life and efficiency of the systems without angling to increase his work or fees.  I was impressed with the thoroughness of his inspections and gladdened by the ultimate prognosis of a serviceable system in need of only small alterations.  I will call him again when my system ultimately succumbs to age and needs repair or replacement.

My air conditioning stopped putting out cold air in the middle of 100 F heat. Being new to the area I found Lane Thompson at the top of Angie's list. I can see why. I called them early on a weekend morning and as promised Franklin arrived early afternoon. After a few minutes he determined the problem and had the unit running . He proceeded to check the system out and while doing so gave me tips on maintaining the the system. The visit was thorough, prompt, professional and a high quality job. Franklin was pleasant, personable and great to deal with. The cost was obviously higher than if it were a scheduled visit on a weekday but considering the circumstances it was well worth it. He left tell us how best to get a hold of him and he made it a point to tell us he was available when ever we needed him. "just keep calling". I now have someone I can count on to service my heating and cooling system. Great experience!

They are honest. They come when they say they are going to. They do a good work.

He was efficent and completed the job in a timely manner. He had to figure out how to repair our faucet since it was an off brand that he was not familar with. He figured it out and was repaired good as new. Very professional.

It was ok. I had some questions for him, which he couldn't really answer. He suggested that I replace a part, which is an auxillary part that the previous owner had. When I looked this up, I couldn't find any information that this was useful. I didn't buy it.

The service was wonderful. They were on time and did excellent work. They had great professionalism too.

After diagnosing the problem, Franklin located the part from the supplier and installed it within an hour. The furnace works great!

Well, overall it went fine. Right now they don't have email or web presence (which I hope they will change, soon) but, they will come out on holidays, weekends and the middle of the night. Whatever you need for an emergency. If it's routine work, they will be there when they say they will be there so you don't have to wait around and miss an entire day of work.
