This has been a ongoing issue with Lowe's. In general, I consider them nothing more than a supermarket for hardware. The majority of their sales people are inept and take no initiative. The general attitude in the store is the YOU (the person with several hundred dollars worth of merchandise in their cart) should stand in line to spend your money, as opposed to them tripping all over themselves to take your money. That is my first beef with them.Second, their personnel/sales people have an apathetic approach to their work. For the most part, they don't know what they have on the shelves. And have little interest in helping you find what you're looking for. There are very few exceptions to this. In the time I've been dealing with them, I've found two people who will actually go to the trouble of helping you out. Most recently, this past Friday (06 Apr. 2012) I was there with a shopping cart filled with over $300 worth of electrical merchandise, looking for a box/kit of 5/16th inch anchor screws (the kind that has the screws and the little plastic anchors). The sales person in the isle, an older man, was restocking the shelves. I came upon him and asked for help, described what I needed, was sent around to the next isle, looked there and found nothing. Came back to him, asked again with little or no response, and found something close to what I was looking for myself, without his help. The gentleman seemed too preoccupied with restocking the shelf to take the time to help. Three days earlier I was there, had a shopping cart filled with more than $400 worth of lights and electrical merchandise, things I found on my own, although I could've used help in locating the necessary items (I subsequently had to return somethings as they were the wrong items). I found no one there to assist me in the lighting department. Went to the paint department, had an apathetic female employee help me match a color and mixed the paint. As I was about to pay, the checker looked at my paint sample and the mixed paint, noticed that it was rather far from matching the sample I brought. I go back to the paint counter and stand there waiting for someone to come (there were two sales persons working in that dept. neither were around). I stood there, with a cart filled with $400 of merchandise, waiting for someone to come and mix me a new batch of paint, for nearly 10 minutes before someone in RETURNS noticed that I was standing there looking POed! Finally, someone comes and remixes new paint for a much closer match to my sample.Overall, as a store, they're a convenience hardware store to me. Nothing more. I will spend money online, in a local hardware store, or anywhere else before I will spend it at Lowe's. Often times I can find the same item online or locally for less. I've ordered items online with free shipping, for less than at Lowe's and had it delivered to my door by FedEx within 3 days! Their website is inept and not kept up to date. They don't know what's in their stores! You check online, the website says your local store doesn't have it, go there and it is on the shelves. I don't know what the point is of having barcoded mechandise, taking inventory and tracking sales, if it isn't to keep a constant count of what's on the shelves. Yet, their website doesn't reflect what they have on-hand and where it is!!! Overall, on a scale of 1-5, with 5 being excellent. I would rate Lowe's in Dickson a .05 (half of 1). Your money would be better spent elsewhere, supporting your local economy and your neighbors!!!
