Our projects were in the open garage space below our house. We had only one two-receptacle outlet on a beam to serve the entire garage, where we have a TV, small refrigerator, fan and charger for a leaf blower. Our tankless hot-water heater had been installed earlier and connected to that outlet with an extension cord. So that left one receptacle for an extension cord to serve all those other appliances. That meant unplugging it whenever I needed to use the shop vac. It was unsightly and probably dangerous.
We asked Mike for his advice, and he decided to hard-wire the hot-water heater into its own receptacle, add more outlets on the beam, plus add an outlet to one wall, to serve the "man cave," and another on the other side of the wall.
We were extremely pleased with Mike's friendly manner and professionalism. We'd use him again, in a minute, and I highly recommend him.
I have to encourage others to be patient with him. I called, after seeing his ratings on Angie's List. He was quite busy, quickly took my name and said he'd be back in touch. We didn't hear for weeks. Most of the time, I would not call back a professional who had not returned my call. But something told me to give Mike a second chance. I called him and he apologized profusely. He had lost his notebook with all the names and numbers of people he was supposed to get back with. So he had no way of knowing my name and number. He came out almost immediately to size up the situation and said he'd give us an estimate. We didn't get that for a while, only to learn that his computer had had problems. I think his business has grown exponentially because of favorable ratings on Angie's List, and he probably needs an office manager to handle his appointments and schedule.
But, as mentioned earlier, he will now be our go-to electrician. Professional, friendly, dependable, easy to work with.
He and his assistant Brandon were very low-key and efficient and a pleasure to have working in our home. Mike was clear even before he came out to us about what his charges would be so there were no surprises. He is a great problem-solver and I was happy with how he resolved each of the issues I'd asked about. And, his work looks great and works perfectly. Also, both Mike and Brandon were very neat and cleaned up after they were done. Mike documented his jobs completely so that both he and I would have an easy reference for the work he'd done on each of the two visits. He is very thorough and I appreciated his professionalism.
I'm very happy with Mike's work and would definitely have him back.
Being an Angies List member, my first thought was to search here for someone who could fix this problem. So I found a company named Miscellaneous Electrical Services. Not only is "Miscellaneous" an Angies List Super Service Award winner for 2013, but going all the way back to 2009 as well. Not THAT sounds like the place I want to turn to for help. I figured, hey, I'll call now and leave a message, and wait til the morning.
Well, as it turns out, the man behind Miscellaneous Electrical -- Mike-- answers his phone. At two in the morning. On Christmas Eve. What is more, he not only had a detailed and thoroughly professional conversation about a problem which plainly had scared the heck out of my wife and I, but he agreed to come down that very morning and take a look. Again, can I repeat myself: this was Christmas Eve we're talking about.
Later that same morning, as promised, Mike rolled up in his truck, introduced himself, and went right to work diagnosing the problem. In less than 30 minutes, he had isolated the problem and had carefully dug up the ground where the ground wires went from the meter to where the grounding rod was buried. As he explained, those two items are supposed to be clamped together but they were not. This was the cause for all the mysterious -- and scary -- events which we had experienced. Mike made his repairs, carefully replaced the soil, then had me test it out by turning on everything in our house at once. Presto! it worked. everything worked... no dimming, no flickering, no low powering, none of it.
Afterwards, Mike wrote up as part of his invoice a very detailed description of all the steps he had taken, including our initial phone conversation. He was polite, friendly and 100% professional throughout.
Based on my experience, if you need electrical work done swiftly and efficiently by a man who clearly loves helping people as much as he enjoys his work, save yourself some time: call Miscellaneous!
