"We were contracted to paint both the full exterior and full interior of the customer's home. After completing the exterior work, the customer indicated satisfaction with the work performed. The full interior work (13 rooms)was to be performed following completion of extensive remodeling involving installation of new drywall in several rooms. We did not do the drywall installation which was not complete (including room 13) at the time of our original estimate for the work. The estimate assumed that all surfaces to be painted, i.e. walls, ceilings and trim would be in paint ready condition for the estimated price. As the work progressed, 12 of 13 rooms were painted without significant issues and for which the customer indicated satisfaction upon their completion. But during the painting of room 13, it was discovered the ceiling and some wall surfaces were not in paint ready condition and required significant surface smoothing. We told the customer we could perform this work but there would be extra charges. The customer chose to change contractors at that point. The customer withheld partial payment (30%) for the work completed on the total project (interior and exterior) to that point in time."
