They removed the existing tile and replaced it with laminate flooring in our kitchen in 2 days. I was very happy with the work that was completed and how quickly they were able to complete the job. This was quality work and I would recommend them to anyone. I would certainly use Nation Hardwood Floors again.

I have never worked with a contractor that changed the price so many times. The contractor came to the house and gave me a written estimate. When I was ready to book the job, the contractor said he forgot to add the stairs so he increased the price by $4000. I had a hard time understanding this when he had already come to the home and seen what the job required. I initially refused to do the job. He lowered the price by $2000 but this was still $2000 higher than the original estimate. For the increased price, he agreed to paint the baseboards. We went on vacation for a week since we had to move all the furniture. After the first day of work, he called and said that he locked the key inside the house. I had to drive back from vacation to get the key out of the house. A few nights later I came to check on the job. After he had left for the day, the lights were left on in several of the rooms and our garage door was left open for any one to get into our garage. After he called to tell me that the job was complete, I arrived and the baseboards had not been painted, as he promised. As of today (2 weeks later) and after I paid him, the baseboards are still not painted. The contractor promised to return to do hardwood floors on our 3rd floor. When I texted him to book the dates, he said I can't do the job for the price I quoted because I'm gonna have to take money from my pocket. This was the 2nd time that he had increased the price on me after given a written proposal. Luckily, I had not paid the contractor anything to do the third floors yet. Finally, most professional contractors will only require payment after a client is satisfied with the work done. He requires 50% up front and payment immediately on the same day the job is done. Instead of waiting for me to return his call, I received 3 phone calls within 2 hours while trying to see patients when my bank wanted to confirm whether or not they should cash my check. The contractor is a nice guy but I can't figure out why prices were constantly changing after giving written estimates.
Response from Nation Hardwood Floors

"The first quote that I sent you was without the stairs because you said you not going to do the stairs you gonna leave as it is in carpet. Than when I was about to order the wood you changed your mind and decide you wanted to add the stairs . So I sent you another quote with the stairs included, and thats where the additional $4000 came in because the material for the stairs cost alot. stairs also take alot of time to do and work. And you agreed with the cost. I moved all the furniture on the 2nd floor removed the carpet installed and refinish the floor. You take a look at the floor and you were happy with it no complaints. I moved all the furniture back to the place that was before and got the second floor completely done ! After that, I was gonna start the third floor in the next day and, the third floor was about 300 sqft, so I ask you if you can make me the payment for the second floor, before I start the third and you agree on it . So I got paid for the second floor .The next day I got there first thing in the morning to do the third floor , when I got there you told me that you find another contractor that can do the third floor for you $2000 dollars cheaper than I, so i didnt agree with the price and you told me that your not gonna do the job with me anymore . As you can see most of my reviews are 5 star rating that means I take care about my job and company name . And sorry if you not happy with the price that I gave you, my mission it's make all my clients happy and delivery the best work ..."

I hire him over the phone. I was explain to him up front this is a hard wood floor that need to be stapled down, I offer him to come down and look at it and he declined he said he has the pictures. When he showed up he said he did not realize it needs to be nailed down and he ask for more money. The young man that install the floor did a great job, but the 2nd employee that came to finish it slopped thru it and I had to do many repairs on it myself.

The installers did a terrible job on the installation of my 3/4 solid unfinished hardwood floors. They obviously did not cull through the wood and throw out the splintered pieces. I still had 3 stacks of hardwood floor (~72 square feet) left over after they were done with the installation and they chose to use about 5-6 splintered pieces of wood that easily stood out to the naked eye in the home. If I could post pictures of some of the pieces that were used and the size of the gaps I would. I will admit that Nunes went back and pulled up two pieces that were chipped/splintered and nailed them down at the top, but not all of them were able to be pulled out and nailed back down so I am stuck with them. When I approached Nunes about the gaps throughout the house between the boards he mentioned that it was the quality of my wood, but it would all be fixed once they were done. However. after it was sanded and finished there were still gaps and when I approached Nunes again he mentioned that it was dry in the house and once the summer came that it would swell together and the gaps would go away and not return. I was not satisfied and told him as much and he said there was not anything he could do. I had a separate wood floor company come in and give me their thoughts and they believed it to be an installation problem, but recommended that I call a hardwood floor inspector to be sure. So I paid $200 for an NWFA certified hardwood floor inspector to come and do an inspection and he found multiple problems that were all a result of the installation- short nailing, poor selection of wood in certain spots, and not even leaving enough room for expansion along the walls. Some of the boards butted right up against my drywall along the walls and according to the inspector and NWFA certification there should be a minimum of 1/2 - 3/4 space to allow for expansion. Nunes then agreed to try and fix these problems as best he could with the floors being finished essentially at this point. So they came in and filled the gaps with wood filler and put another coat of finish down on the floors, but I have wood filled gaps throughout the floors now. However, I still had to have the gaps for expansion along the walls fixed myself after Nunes attempted to fix them at the end. Overall, Nunes was a nice guy and the sand and finish crew did a good job, but all of my problems resulted from poor installation and once they nailed the boards down they were not going to go back and properly fix them at that point. So I had to spend more money than what it should have cost to have them fixed instead of having them done properly the first time. Needless to say, I do not plan on using this company in the future.

"First of all, I would say sorry if the work did not come up the way you want to, my prior is to make my clients happy and satisfied. But in your specific case the work did not go the way you like it because you bought a cheep wood from internet, I gave you the number of a seller which have good quality of wood and you did not go with it, you prefer to go with some wood that you did not know anything about it, how they acclimated the wood if the wood was inside the store and also was number 2 quality I did the best with the material that I have in hands."

These guys are great! Very committed to building a reputation on quality. They were skilled beyond their years. Our project was pretty large scale-included raising the entire subfloor, installing hardwood throughout our second floor, installing stair landings to match our stair treads. They moved furniture all over the house-to include helping with a couple new pieces-no upcharge. We paid what we agreed, with no hidden additions-they completed the work right on schedule-took about 3 1/2 days. Even dusted the furniture during cleanup. Take a chance on them for sure. We threw a lot of complexity at them and they handled with ease. Our install looks seamless with the rest of the wood installed during the initial build. I cannot say enough about them. 5 star rating is not high enough.
