We gave them a $600 pet deposit. However they took all that and $325 more for 8 $15 shades that had minor damage from our kittens. Also they took the same picture of one shade and duplicated it 2 more times so that one damaged shade resulted in 3 for their pictures. Even though we have now moved out, our furniture, bedding and clothes have smoke residue on them. Our son's allergies were so affected that he has nose bleeds and had to go on medication. So with the attorney fees, doctor bills and cleaning bills we are out alot more money than what they took from us and yet all we can do is report them here.
Description of Work: The Goose Creek Property Manager hid the cigarette smoke residue in the rental home located in Goose Creek, SC and then lied about it. They placed an air freshener on the main air filter to the air circulation unit and turned off the air. I discovered this when I replaced the air filter. I told them they either covered up the smell and/or the fact the air conditioner was not running prevented me from detecting the smell. They stated no one was complaining other than me, no one else commented on the poor air quality including construction workers who replaced the carpet, added a wood floor and painted the complete house. They stated they were in the house and never smelled cigarette smoke. The previous owner smoked a lot of cigarettes including smoking in the garage. We parked our car in the garage and I drove my wife's car and stated this car smells like cigarettes. That was because the car was parked in the garage. We asked to be released from the lease and the property manager. stated the lease was binding and that I would have to pay the rent after moving out until a new tenant was leasing the property. This is when we had to hire an attorney and write a formal complaint to the urban league I complained about spiders that were in the house and outside the house. They called an exterminator and stated he is complaining about spiders as if I was lying about it. The exterminator came and confirmed the peresence of spiders. They made me pay $60.00 for an exterminator when I moved out of the property less than 3 months into the lease. My wife went to the doctor and had 53% lung capacity. She then went back 2 weeks after we moved out and her lung capacity was 77% without any medication. It was just because we moved out of the smoke house. Our clothes and furniture smelled like smoke. Our bedding and beds smelled like smoke. I had air purifiers going in every room in the house and they still did not reduce the cigarette residue in the house. The property manager told my wife on the phone that 2nd hand smoke was not a health concern or problem and then she stated "I do not have to speak to you as you did not sign the lease, your husband did." I plugged the refridgerator in the ac wall outlet when I moved in and it did not work. I called the property manager and they stated the lease states repairs would not be made to appliances. I had to argue with them stating that the refridgerator did not break and that it was broken from the beginning and the owner had to know this. The property mgr. and the home owner were basically in agreement in regards to trying to get the person renting the house to buy a new refridgerator when the owner knew the refridgerator was broken. The Goose Creek Property Management was dishonest and fabricted damage to the house to deduct money from my deposit. Some of the issues in the report could have been present when I rented the home. They took photos of the window shades and charged me for 8 blinds. 3 of the photos look like the same blind. Some of the blinds were older than others when I moved in. You could tell this by the tint from the cigarette smoke. The new blinds were white and the older blinds were not. I am out over $1000.00 because they did not disclose the fact the previous owner smoked cigarettes and to make a statement that second cigarette smoke is not harmful was a lie as everyone knows including the government that 2nd hand smoke causes health problems including lung problems and headaches.
