VERIZON

It didn't go well. We went through many iterations of restarting the modem, rebuilding the logons, testing speed, etc. In the end, the tested speed was only slightly better than when we began. The underlying problem, as I see it, is that Newport, RI and nearby communities are not deemed worthy to have FIOS, which would, according to Verizon's ads, work gloriously. I doubt that, but it would probably be better than the DSL I'm stuck with in order to save a few dollars over Cox Cable, which often had the same problem. I could try to blame it all on the lack of cooperation between Internet providers and Netflix, but I've also experienced the problem with Showtime On Demand, although there's a case to be made that that's also streaming.
I'm further irritated by these "bundles," which force me to use their phone service, which is expensive if I call out of my area. Really unacceptable. As soon as there's a viable alternative Internet provider, I'm jumping ship.
