Through Angie's List, I made an apportionment with this contractor to come to my house and provide a quote for several projects. The time of the appointment came and went and he didn't show up. I called 30 minutes after our appointment time to see if he was running late or if he still intended on showing up. He answered the phone and told me he didn't have any record of us having set up an appointment (as I was looking at our conversation in the "messages" tool on the List). His general demeanor during our discussion about blowing off our appointment was completely dismissive. I understand that sometimes things can get missed but having revolved my morning, on a work day, around meeting with him, the expectation would be some recognition that the error was on his part. A simple "I'm sorry" would have gone a long way. If this is his attitude while trying to win business, how would I have any faith that he is going to show up and do good work? Surprised and disappointed at the lack of professionalism.

If a contractor knows that he/she will not be able to complete your job in a timely manner, THEY SHOULD BE HONEST. When they respond immediately to an advertisement, come to your home within days of answering your ad, and provide a quote 24 hours later, one would think the contractor was going to defy all odds and actually do what he/she said they would do. THIS IS ONE OF THE THINGS THAT GIVES CONTRACTOR'S A BAD NAME. I have been stepping around cabinets and hardware for 3 months - really? Very disappointing.

Unfortunately we needed the job completed sooner so we were unable to hire them but we would recommend them in the future.

The gentleman was very professional. It was a brief contact. We didn't even get to the stage of getting a price.

Contractor established an appointment with me and did not show up. When I called to inquire as to his whereabouts he had no idea who I was or that he had scheduled an appointment three days prior. Contractor stated that he must have forgotten to put me in his calendar. I unfortunately have very little free time and had rearranged my schedule to be available on his time table - then he does not show up or even have a recollection of the appointment. If reliability is important to you and time is your most limited commodity, choose someone else.

Stephan was very responsive from the very beginning. He came to perform an estimate and provided a quote shortly after I contacted him. He was very up front with his schedule and when they would be able to perform the work; it took a little bit (also because we waited long to reply to his proposal); but once he put us on the schedule he showed up and finished as described in his quote. His estimate was very close to what we expected to pay (i.e. in the past I had several people coming and giving us outrageous estimates); but he was also very flexible to provide ideas and alternatives according to our budget until we had something that met our needs. I decided to purchase most of the materials and whatever I missed he was prompt to provide at a competitive cost. His team was very polite, hard working, ingenious and knowledgeable to solve the unexpected issues with the structure and careful to maintain the surrounding areas as clean as possible. Once the job was done, there was a little adjustment that was needed in one of the bathrooms, he came immediately to fix it. I definitely recommend H.S. Remodeling and will use them in the future.

Stephan did an amazing job - very professional work performed. No one is able to even tell that there were issues prior to Stephan repairing. I will definitely utilize this company again in the future. :)

Stephan and Giovanni were very professional and very courteous.  I appreciated the fact that they were willing to listen to what we wanted and did their very best to make it happen.  In addition, I really appreciated the fact that they truly cared about the quality of their work which allowed me to relax knowing that it would be done correctly without my worrying about it.  The price was fair for the excellent quality of their work.  I most certainly would call Stephan for any other renovations that need to be done.  I would like to attach some pictures but not sure how the previous reviewer did it.

This was our first time using this company but read good reviews on Angie's List.  Stephan and his crew lived up to the reviews. They were very professional and respectful of our property during the remodeling. We also found the communications to be good which eliminated surprises. We're very happy with the job and intend to have them do more remodeling for us in the future.

It went very well. There was only a slight delay in the start time for the project. However, we were not pressed for time and there HAD been freezing temperature problems with many projects during the winter. Our job was delayed about one week in January. We were a little surprised that we only saw the owner of the company about 3 or 4 times over the several weeks of the project. However, the two brothers who worked for Stephan were there every day. They were punctual. They hardly took a lunch break. They cleaned up nicely every day. And the work they did was beautiful.

We asked the owner if his men could replace our home's other thermostats when they installed the new one in the bathroom. They did this. However, after we returned home from a weekend trip away, we discovered that one of the thermostats was not working. When we opened it up to investigate, we found the entire inside of the box was scorched. When we called the owner, he drove down to our place within the hour.  It seemed that a wire nut had not been tightened sufficiently allowing electricity to arch.  A serious, serious situation. The owner repaired the problem and double checked every other thermostat that his men had worked on.

Although I was very concerned by that problem, everything else had been done so well and in such a professional fashion, I could see us using them again. And it was for that reason that I gave the Quality Rating less than a perfect score.

a) Remove and dispose vanity, sink, Toilet, walls ceiling and flooring to studs. b) Extend shower approximately 1 foot into closet in hallway. c) Rough in plumbing for steam shower, mixing valve, vanity and toilet. d) Install new shower mixing valve . ( $200.00 allowance for mixing valve ) Install Kohler 9kw fast response steam generator 1733-NA including Kohler steam shower kit K1647. e) Install new exhaust fan / light combination.( allowance $150.00 ) f) Install two recessed lights to ceiling including switch. g) Install 1/2" cement board to walls and ceiling in shower area and 1/2" gypsum board in remaining bathroom. h) Install Schluter Kerdi shower system. System includes curb, shower pan, membrane and drain system. Schluter Kerdi is a polyethylene, waterproofing membrane, equipped with an anchoring fleece on both sides. It is suitable for waterproofing in conjunction with tiled surfaces on walls and floors. www.schluter.com i) Install Schluter Ditra system to subfloor. Ditra is an uncoupling membrane that allows the finished floors surface (tile, thin set, and grout) and the substrate (floor sheathing or floor slab) to move independently of each other. j) Install 110sq.ft of wall and floor tiles in shower area.( $2.50 sq.ft allowance for tiles ) k) Install 55sq.ft of floor tiles.( $2.50 sq.ft allowance for tiles ) l) Install a 48" vanity and vanity top including sink, drain system and water supply lines ( Allowance for vanity, vanity top and sink $1,500.00 ) m) Install toilet. ( allowance $300.00 ) n) Prime ceiling and walls and paint with two (2) coat of finish paint. o) Prime all woodwork and finish with two(2) coats of satin finish paint. p) Install shower door and bathroom accessories.( supplied by customer ) Total: $12,240.00 Exclusions This contract excludes: Replacement of any deteriorated structure; if any deterioration problem is found it will be replaced on a time & material basis. The above prices include materials, labor, and equipment necessary to complete this work. -------------------- Stephan was very professional and easy to work with. He readily accommodated, as best he could, our comments and requests as the work was progressing. Our only issue was that the job took about 7 weeks to complete versus the 3-4 weeks originally estimated. But in the end, the work turned out very well, and we would certainly talk to Stephan first about any future remodeling project.

He was scheduled to come to give me an estimate for replacement windows and remodel bathroom on 2/3/14 but didn't show and didn't call. When I called a couple days later to follow up he said he couldn't find my house (he said he had a different house number than the one I gave him) and he said he couldn't call me because he didn't have my number.
