Ron Barber was knowledgeable, professional, and methodical from the original estimate phase through completion of the job and explaining the system to us. Our old 1930s home had electric basement registers (they were "sparking'!) from the 1960s. We had Barber Mechanicals estimate the job for putting in a heat pump central heat/air conditioning for the small, brick home. His estimating and discussions with us were very thorough, so when we decided to go with Barber Mechanicals, the prep work was done. We were especially impressed with the thought he put into what was best for the house, and why....and his ability to explain that to us. Great thought was put into the unit selection, location of ductwork, the outside unit, etc. Once we signed the estimate, I think it was about two weeks or so (not very long!) to get on the schedule to get it done. Ron called about a week before with an estimated start date, then called again shortly before to confirm the project start. He was also able to give us a end date, and was clear about what he needed from us to get the job done. Communication was proactive, and professional throughout the project. Although it sounds strange to call the project "beautiful", it surely was. Ron is very methodical with how he works (careful design, careful execution). So there wasn't any mess left at all. The outside unit was neat and professional looking, as was the ductwork in our basement. When Ron completed the project, he gave us information on what he saw as he worked, so many house "mysteries" were solved. For example, old wiring/hoses that were in the basement, and why. The electrical panel was nice and neat, because he cleanly disconnected more electric basement units than what he needed on the panel. He mentioned a well pump problem that he noticed while he was working. How's that for service?! Ron Barber did the work himself, with a helper for the heavy stuff. We like the idea of a small business (the estimator did the work!), where the owner himself does the work, and takes pride in a job well done. We feel confident he will service the system after the sale, especially because he let us know what time he'd be at the house to start work and that sometimes included making an emergency service call for someone first. Everything worked out great!, with two added bonuses (1) we didn't expect it all to look so "beautiful", and (2) Ron had suggestions and was generous with sharing what he figured out while working here. Although Ron wasn't our lowest estimate, we are extremely pleased with the value. His pricing was very competitive, probably due to the good thought he put into the design. It was a first class job from start to finish, and we're confident that Barber Mechanicals will maintain/service in the years to come. We've already talked to Ron about a couple of other jobs...at other houses. Ron was recommended to us by a general contractor that is looking at doing some major remodeling for us.
