Tom Wells is the most committed, skilled, and up-front-honest contractor we have ever hired. He's an Ivy Leaguer (a Penn grad), and was christened and quot;the preppy carpenterand quot; by one of my friends (who also hired him to finish an upstairs room). That's because Tom would typically arrive in a light blue button-down shirt and khaki pants. I've known him for nearly 25 years, so I may be a bit biased. As a Quaker, he is committed to comunity service, the greatest evidence of which is the covered structure he built in Yardley's Buttonwood Park, spending innumerable weekends doing and supervising the work. (Tom and his wife, Susan Snipes Wells, live in the boro.)
In more recent years, Tom has grown his firm and expanded into and quot;greenand quot; construction and energy efficiency modifications. (He is quite passionate about it.) But the speciality that has really proved popular is making and quot;aging-in-placeand quot; adjustments, additions, remodeling, etc., to homes to make it possible for older people to stay in and quot;my home foreverand quot; (as opposed to moving to an assisted care facility). At age 62, I haven't had the need to hire Tom for that yet. But when the time comes to install strategically placed grab bars, a zero-threshold shower, or a first-floor full bathroom, I don't think I'd turn to anybody else. His intelligence (never intimidating) and passion just win you over.
