John from Phillips has given us a quote for a number of miscellaneous repairs.  He carefully discussed options and the outcome we expected from the work.  Since our home will be put on the market shortly we want to optimize our costs.  We will certainly consider his company for this next project.

We also gave him half the cost of a new window, $1,400, which he was supposed to order. In the meantime, my husband died suddenly. Afterward, Mr. Phillips would not return my phone calls. I checked with the Chester County courts and was told that mine was not the only complaint. I filed a claim against him, but he was never found to be served with the papers. He apparently had nothing in his name and no valid address, and even his ex-wife claimed to not know where he lived despite the fact that he had/has children in the same area. The constable who reported this to me wasn't sure he believed that, but he couldn't prove anything. I doubt he's even operating/scamming in this area anymore. I used to get mass-mail flyers from him a couple of times per year, but I haven't had any for the past couple of years, so he's probably moved on by now. If so, I hope it's to a place where Angie's List is wildly popular and anyone who considers hiring him will check here first. Even though the statute of limitations for the theft is probably expired by now, I do still have the documentation of the lawsuit I filed against him.

Quality of work was excellent. Not very responsive (he said he was very busy). There was some confusion over the scope of the work. His estimate was very vague, and I interpreted things differently than he did. He did come back to meet my expectations though, so in the end I am quite happy.

KEVIN AND CREW DID AN A-1 JOB. KEVIN POSESSES ALL THE TOOLS, I.E., KNOW-HOW, EQUIPMENT, PERSONALITY. HE AND HIS CREW WERE A PLEASURE TO DEAL WITH. (THEY EVEN REPLACED A CRACKED BOARD ON THE DECK STEPS WITHOUT BEING ASKED AND AT NO ADDITIONAL CHARGE.) I WOULDN'T HESITATE TO HIRE KEVIN FOR ANY RESIDENTIAL BUILDING OR REMODELING JOB.
