We have a 25+ year unit. Our pilot light went out approx. 20 years ago. The unit had rusted and was a mess. To replace the unit it would cost over $10,000, which was completely out of the question!!! Found Joe online, walked us through cleaning and painting the unit (also called my fears of painting it on SEVERAL occasions). Came out told me exactly what pieces I needed to order and once recieved returned to install. Joe was very personable, respectful, and prompt. PLEASE DO NOT HAVE ANY DOUBTS ABOUT USING JOE TO FIX YOUR UNIT INSTEAD OF PAYING $10000 for a new!! From start to finish pleased with our repair!!!

Joe just came out and fixed our fireplace. The pilot light went out years ago, and we were told we'd have to pay over 10k for a new unit, and it'd destroy our mantel. We found Joe on Angi and set up an appointment within a week. He came out this afternoon, and within an hour our decades-old fireplace was up and running! He cleaned everything, and now it works better than ever. We are so grateful, and excited to have our fireplace for the winter! We definitely recommend Joe O'Neill of O'Neill's Gas Services.

Joe did a great job on repairing my gas fireplace. My pilot light would stay on but my logs would not fire up. Joe called the afternoon before and gave me an approximate time for the next day visit. He call again the morning of and said he was at a site and would be at my home afterward and the time depended on the previous job. He estimated an additional hour to arrive, and he did come on time. After the initial cleaning he tested the fire and it came on but would not stay lit. He diagnosed the wall switch might be bad and it was so he replaced it. Cleaning the glass was needed and appreciated. All is good and working fine. His rate was fair and I enjoyed his customer service. He's a good fellow.

We always had great luck with the vendors we hired through Home Advisor so I did not hesitate to hire Joe based on prior experiences. During my initial conversation with Joe, I had explained my gas fireplace required annual maintenance and that the flame was flickering on and off. When I asked him to confirm the cost prior to setting up an appointment, he quoted $220.00 based on what I had shared with him. I asked if that included repairing the amp if needed and he gave the impression that it was not an issue. First the pros Joe responded quickly to my initial call and was available to service the fireplace in a timely manner. Not really a pro, but will mention that although he was an hour late, he did contact me and let me know what time he would arrive. I had asked what his protocol was for wearing a mask and he said he would wear one if needed. I also offered to provide one for him. I understand others have had issues with this but I will say that he wore it the entire time without my having to remind him to do so. Now the cons - As other reviewers have indicated, he did not bring towels or cleaning supplies so I had to provide them which I found to be odd. I even cleaned the glass screen of the fireplace myself when he placed the dirty screen on my kitchen counter and told me to get some Windex; also strange but I rolled with it and joked that he was putting me to work; no response. He mentioned that he had been in my housing development previously. When I asked which of my neighbors he provided service for he did not respond which was a red flag. I noticed he never vacuumed any debris from the fireplace which I also found odd. After completing the job, he charged $384.00. He never let me know there was an issue and took it upon himself to replace the ignition module without consulting with me first. When I expressed my concern he offered to remove the part he had replaced and suggested I have somebody else come out and evaluate it. Seriously?! I also asked for a warranty for the part he replaced and he said he would give me a year. Upon his departure, he did not provide a receipt, but I managed to catch him before his departure while he was sitting in my driveway eating lunch in his unmarked minivan. A day later, there was a significant delay in the fireplace starting when I turned it on and there was still some intermittent flickering. We contacted Joe and let him know we were dealing with the same issues to which he responded I would probably now need a pilot assembly and that he would provide the part information so I could price it out on line to get the best pricing. When I asked for the information, he explained Electronic ignition issues can take SEVERAL visits and that I should check the manual for the necessary information. The fireplace now turns on for only a few minutes and then completely shuts down. So, basically the part and service I paid for was useless. Unethical and unprofessional is what you will get should you decide to go with Joes service.

"Terry was very cordial in our initial encounter when I shared with her the approximate service fee and appointment timeline. Generally, a 2 to 3-hour window, with a call when on route to the customers property. Please be advised that if the customer does not have any supplies that are needed I provide them. This helps keep the charges down. If parts are needed at times I provide opportunities for the customer to save money. There are a number of times that the customer stays with me as work is performed and she was one of them. Terry was anxious to help me although it is best if not. This was the case as determined right after I presented her with the bill. Terry was upset and turned very hostile in the blink of an eye. She stated she preferred to shop around for a better price for the part, as that is her nature. Terry wanted me to diagnose the problem so she could control the transaction. As much as I tried to do everything possible to accommodate Terry, including reinstalling the defective part with no charge. No luck, as she left no option for me but to leave the property. After leaving the unit in good working order as witnessed by her, I got a call almost a week later stating the unit was acting up again. I explained to her again that I do not just change parts at random unless they fail at the time of my visit. So I offered to put the current defective part in at no charge and gave her the pathway to obtaining the part at a discounted price. Every year there is someone that is not happy with the price of doing business and wants to dictate what they believe is a fair price not knowing anything about the fireplace industry and it is many potential perils. This is that scenario. The price for services rendered given by her testimony was inflated. It is difficult to convey an accurate assessment of the chain of events when someone is angry and has no regard for good faith. Let me wish everyone a happy and healthy 2022 ...and especially Terry. Joe called me right away after I enter my request and then arrived within 2 hours to do the job. He quickly cleaned and got one gas log fireplace working and told me the other needed to be replaced. He suggested the type of replacement I needed and then confirmed it tags right set by email. He was courteous and professional and knowledgeable.

Joe O'Neill, owner and operator, entered our home without wearing a mask in January 2021 - the height of daily deaths by covid-19. When we asked him to put on a mask he made a sarcastic comment. When we asked him to wear his mask properly to cover his nose which was hanging out, he claimed we harassed him. He asked us to provide our own floor covering and did not cover his shoes. Further, he asked us to clean the fireplace glass covering and do the research on the fireplace model and parts. Do not know what actual service this belligerent contractor provided, despite the fact we paid him to go away. This is likely why he was available on short notice. We do not recommend hiring him.

"There is great division in our country today over many political and medical issues. As a senior citizen ..I will wear a mask when required, it becomes difficult for me to breath properly and can become faint. Before a medical event occurs with a mask zealot , I would prefer to leave the property rather than create conflict . Out in his driveway I made sure he understood the problem and how to fix it. As he had a deadline to meet and could not get anyone to visit property until the end of March. I immediately responded on Saturday 01/16/2021. This attempt to discredit my stellar performance and vast experience in the fireplace industry, will not discourage those who have understanding . Best regards to all ....God bless... and stay healthy"

Joe ONeill was able to fix the fire place and was prompt in returning my call. I was surprised that he did not provide own materials: drop cloth and vacuum. Also surprised that he did not wear a mask when entering my home.

He knew what he was doing but what I didn't like was 1) he was about 3 hours late and the moment he got in he was rushing to leave because I was out of his area. He did apologize for being late but always mention I was from his area. aside from that the work was done and he took the time to show me what was wrong. If he would be will to expand his territory I would recommend him to others
