"As a 4th generation owner of my families business we take great pride in our work. I do not understand how we can be graded as a D based on what is perceived as a high estimate. No work was even completed for this homeowner and we receive a D on quality? Steven DeSteffano 4th Generation Owner (215)884-3280"
"We had (removed member name) scheduled for an estimate on Friday May 8th. We cannot and do not book jobs until we have competed an in-home estimate. In between scheduling his estimate and when we were supposed to meet we met our capacity limit. We do not overbook dates and we informed (removed member name) of this fact. How is this bait and switch? My family has owned and operated Mooney's for 96 years and I believe this review is a completely inacurate portrayal of my company."
We had used Mooney's for our last move and had a great experience. Unfortunately that was not the case this time around. The owner came out to our house to give us a quote. We were moving out of a 2 bed, 2 bath townhouse with a loft and unfinished basement. He quoted us 2 men and a supervisor for right around $1200. We thought that was more than reasonable and again based on our previous experience went ahead a booked the for our move.
Moving day came and they were right on time and were personable. Two of the guys came into the house to take a look at what they were dealing with and immediately began to complain about how there should have been four guys quoted for the job, which set the tone for the whole day basically.
They got right to work and everything seemed to be going smoothly until they got to the basement and saw that there were some "loose items" (and by loose I mean things in a large Rubbermaid containers without a lid) and a generator. They said they couldn't move "stuff like that" and that we would have to do it ourselves. My boyfriend called the owner who had given us the quote and explained that he had been out and saw what was to be moved and made no mention of any of it and also that the movers had complained that there should have been a fourth guy. The owner seemed disinterested and reluctantly offered to call the supervisor, which he didn't do. Since were moving out of the area and it was, you know, moving day we basically bribed them with $100 each to move the "stuff like that." I had also bought bed bags for all three mattress sets and they didn't bother to put them on as asked.
Took about 4 hours to load up and about 1 hour to get where we were going. We were moving into a brand new place and I thought they might put plastic of something down to protect the new carpet like last time, but no such luck. That was just the beginning of it. They took no care moving our things and no care with the actual house (did I mention it was brand new?). There are so many dings and digs in the walls we are going to have to spend half a day repairing them. The 60 inch television was run right into the ceiling over the entry stairs and I only realized it when I looked at the corner of the TV and it was covered in paint and drywall. The spot where they hit the ceiling has a nice 1/2 inch divot out of it. They brought in a dresser and didn't secure the drawers so when they brought it upstairs the drawers all slide out right into the wall causing all sorts of digs and marks. The dining room table is all scratched and dinged now and then they stacked three heavy kitchen boxes on a hand truck and the hand truck went of the side of the ramp from the truck and crashed into the pavement. They were nonchalant about it and probably wouldn't have said a word if we hadn't seen it happen.
It is also interesting to me that they ask you where you want things and yet just put them where they wanted to anyway. All sorts of things wound up in the basement naturally because it was on the first floor. I mean kitchen items, clothes, bathroom stuff all in the basement and the kicker is not only were they directed where to put literally every single thing (my boyfriend directed the from garage and I was in the living room), but I went through the hassle of buying those stickers you put on the boxes to identify what room they went in and apparently that was a complete waste of time.
So in conclusion DO NOT hire these movers! They won't treat your things or your home with respect.
"As the 4th generation of my family to own & operate Mooney’s I find this review to be disheartening. I would also like to provide more information than [member name removed] has provided. The actual charges were in fact $152.00 more than the estimate. While I understand this is not ideal I also do not find the one hour additional required to compete the move anything excessive. The $120.00 included for tip to the movers was at the sole discretion of the customer for quality service. I personally explained the liability coverage to [member name removed] prior to the move. She elected for the basic valuation coverage of $0.60 per pound per article. This level of coverage is mandated by the Pennsylvania Utility Commission and is the same for every moving company in Pennsylvania. Upgraded coverage is available however it was declined by [member name removed]. The box in question was neither dropped, physically crushed nor professionally packed by anyone at Mooney’s. I am sorry this matter has become public but I am unwilling to as [member name removed] wanted “pay her to make this go away.” If anyone has further questions I can be personally contacted via email [email protected] or (215)884-3280."
