They did an excellent job! They're very punctual. They're here at 7 o' clock in the morning everyday, sometimes at 6:30. They set up their job before they start with the materials and then they start their job, they tell you everyday what time they're going to be here. They're usually right on time because they live a couple of blocks away from me. They clean up. They come in with a dumpster. Their clean up is fabulous. They have a big magnet that goes over the ground with wheels and it picks up all the nails so you don't get no flat tires. They clean up everyday after their act. Their pricing is reasonable. Compared to when I got an estimate 10 years it was pretty reasonable. I imagine the prices went up. I got a price before like just for my one roof, main roof, and the siding was like $10000 but I have 3 roofs and they did my 3 roofs plus the siding for like 16 grands plus then they fixed part of the front roof that needed fixed. I think it was well worth the price considering what it was 10 years ago and I would only have got one roof fixed. I called them up and they told me that they would be here in a couple of days. They told me after lunch time and they were here about 12:30 and did an estimate. They're on time everyday!

AVOID Jand J ROOFING AT ALL COSTS!!!

From the very beginning - it was BAD. We signed the contract, and they were supposed to begin work within the week. The start date was pushed back two weeks, then two weeks again. They started work on the first week of November 2010. The first day, they removed all the old roof materials, and covered the roof in ice and water shield. Unfortunately, they failed to install a drip edge and it started raining. After three days of rain, we realized that there was water coming in on the floor of the second story - the whole front wall (30+ feet). Jason Fish - the owner - came out and installed drip edge, which prevented water from running down the roof, and behind the fascia metal which had not been removed. The second floor was still in the process of being renovated, so we only had to replace the bottom foot and a half of the fiberglass insulation and drywall. His insurance ultimately paid us for the damage, but the contractor stubbornly refused to take responsibility and blamed our windows (Pella, installed four months earlier with no trace of water in that time).

Three weeks later, the job was done and paid for. Unfortunately, the fun was just starting. After another several days of sustained rain, we discovered another leak next to a skylight. This damaged the ceiling in one of the bedrooms, and a portion of that front wall which had already been built and partly rebuilt within the last two months. After finally getting his insurance company to send another adjuster, they discovered inadequate flashing was the cause. His insurance again paid for the damages to the interior. However, the only thing done to address the cause at that time was to cover a portion of our roof with a tarp to cover the skylights to prevent further damage. The contractor said it was our windows which were causing the leaks again.

Six weeks later in mid January, the renovations to the second floor were complete, and we again found that water was soaking the floor on the second story. An examination in the attic showed that water was dripping inside the house from the roof – just inside the fascia board. This damaged the remaining areas of the front wall which had only been soaked once in November, and requiring the removal of brand new carpets (installed Dec 15). The insurance company sent a clown named Paul Burgunder to check things out. He was there for nearly five hours, and could not keep anything straight. Upon arrival, he was saying it was clear that the shingles were not installed correctly, and there were additional problems he could see from the attic. After he spoke to Jason Fish, the owner of Jand J Roofing, he was saying it was our windows. More tarps were installed.

The insurance company would not pay for the damages, even though we had photos of water coming in from the roof in the attic. They wanted us to tear out the exterior walls to find out if any water was coming in from the windows or the gutter. This in the middle of one of the coldest January’s in twenty five years. We declined their offer, and contacted the PA Attorney General.

In March, we discovered another leak on the other side of the house. Jand J Roofing came out and caulked something. The leak persisted over the following weeks and months. Jand J Roofing attempted to address this with more caulking, and offered to replace the roof section, along with the front section which had leaked. Unfortunately, the PA Attorney General only negotiated for the front section, and when we asked Jand J Roofing for what they intended to do in writing, they wrote it up as a contract which, if we had signed it, would have released them from all liability in future leaks – and it did not even mention their intent to replace the rear slope as discussed.

Since then, I have contacted the BBB, joined Angie’s List to write this so no one that is careful should ever have to deal with this company again.

Update - 10/2011 - Had an independent building envelope specialist come out and he wrote a six page report of what was wrong with the roof Jand J Roofing, Owner - Jason Fish installed. Jason Fish and his crew did not even bother trying to replace a lot of the flashing, and did not install most of the products to code or manufacturers instructions - in direct violation of the contract. Jand J did not replace the rotten wood sheathing either - again, in violation of the contract. Won our hearing against Jand J Roofing, but only for half the amount of the roof.

Take the above advice seriously, and just avoid the pain by avoiding Jand J Roofing at all costs. It only cost my wife and I about $22,000 dollars to replace the roof, pay experts, pay lawyers, repair damages, have another roofing company come out and replace the entire roof all over again. It's been raining a lot since they finished, and we have had no leaks! I will follow up with a report for the new roofing company. Cheers, Ron.

RESPONSE TO PROVIDER RESPONSE - Lies, lies, and more lies. Two years since the Jand J roof was replaced - we never did anything with any of the siding or windows in the multiple locations that Jand J said were at fault, and SURPRISE we have had not one leak. We have all of the documented evidence (photos, contracts, etc) to support all claims made on our side (and more importantly, a new roof not installed by Jand J which does not leak at all- see my other reviews and ask yourself if I am fair). Nothing said by the provider can be proved because it is all a fabrication. The reason there is no BBB entry on our behalf against Jand J Roofing is because the BBB will not get involved once litigation starts. Jand J Roofing has no honor, honesty, or skill. They will call me names, and cry foul for being held to any kind of standard, but it's simply a reflection of themselves.
