I thought I did everything right. I got three estimates. Someone I knew recommended this company. I went with this company even though two companies told me I couldn?t put the water softener where he wanted to put it. I brought up to him what the other people had said, but he insisted on putting it next to an electrical box. He?d been in business for 40 years. He also told me he was raising the water pressure. One week later, a coupling between two pipes broke next to the conditioner. This caused a huge explosition of water everywhere. It flooded my basement. My plumbing worked fine for six years. He came in with his insurance adjuster and the adjuster agreed that this was just a coincidence. I have a $1,000 deductible that I have to pay and things in my basement were damaged. He?s denied he?s responsible. I went with him because he was local. I ended up getting burned by it. He denied working in the area where the two pipes came apart, but I saw him working right there with my own two eyes. The pipes were 14 inches from his tank. He came in with his grandson and one of his grandson?s friends. I don't know what they did to help, but they smoked outside my garage while standing around waiting for him. We don?t go in that room at all. The flood happened in the middle of the night when the water softener kicked in. I think his insurance company knows it was his fault. He denies any responsibilities. He put the tank right in front of an electrical box. An electrician and another plumber that came in told us I could have been electrocuted by what he did while we were standing in the water tying to hold the two pipes together to stop the flooding. We were standing in three to four inches of water. The water was spraying to the ceiling.
Description of Work: He installed a water conditioner for me.

Response from BUTLER COUNTY WATER CONDITIONING COMPANY
On 7/14/09 at 12:12pm there was a phone call on my answering machine from the member saying she wanted her water checked. On 7/17/09 at 3:17pm I called her and asked if she was going to be home and she said yes, I got there at 3:49pm and talked to her about the water problem. I told her she needed a big water softener because of the size of the house so she would not have any pressure loss (small units have to much of a pressure loss going from the cellar to the third floor). I told her the size fo the unit I was going to use would not give her any pressure loss and if there was we could adjust the pressure up from the existing cut in of which I observed on the gauge around 38# and cut out of existing cut out of around 57#, to cut in or 40# and cut out of 60#. (All pressure switches have a differential of 20#) after discussing the price and option to buy the system or rent it, I left. On 7/20/09 at 8:57am she called and said she wanted the water softener but wanted to rent it fro now. On 7/23/09 at 8:57am she called on machine. I returned the call at 4:27pm on my cell phone and told her we would be over on 7/31/09 (Friday) in the morning to install the unit. On 7/31/09 we got there at 9:45am and started the installation we finished it at 3:48pm. I told her I would be over in the morning on 8/01/09 and fill the salt tank up and have her sign the papers and she said ok. On 8/01/09 at 9:35am I went back over and put the salt in the brine tank and had her sign the rental papers. I started to explain how to set the timer in case they would have any power failures and she stated to me that she did not want to know how to set the timer or anything with it, I then said all you have to do is push the button to the correct time and she said again I do not want to know how to set the timer and I said then if you don’t have it at the correct time, it will regenerate possibly during the day and she stated again, I don’t want to know. I then showed her where to deep the salt lever in the brine tank and where to unplug the unit & I left at 10:25am. On 8/10/09 I talked to the member around 11:05am and she said a pipe broke on Saturday night/Sunday morning (8/09/09) and she had water on the floor and she said she tried calling ( there was not message on my answering machine or on my cell phone) Saturday night, Sunday morning or all day Sunday until Monday morning. I told her I was coming over to see what went on. She told me I could not because her brother said if you went in that room you could get electrocuted. I asked what she meant and she said there are bare wires in there. I said I am coming over. I got there at 11:43am and when I knocked on the door she let me in and the first words out of her mouth were (I’m sorry this happened but your insurance company will take care of this). I then walked further in the garage where I saw some fans and it looked like dryers in the garage. When I went to go into the room she stepped in front of me. I said why are those wires cut and spliced and where is the cover for the square O pressure switch? (That is what turns the water pump on and off). Then I looked up and said where is the cover for the pump switch? I then looked where the pipe had been broken and the new plastic pipe replacing it. I then told her to keep this broken pipe. After I examined this I looked to see if anything was wrong with my unit and it was ok. She then said to me again “your insurance company will take care of this” and then I said “why do you think my insurance company should pay for this” and then she said well you were in this room and I said yes I was but I did not touch or break that pipe and then I started walking out. I said my insurance company will be contacted. I then went back to the shop and called my agent and explained what I installed and what she claimed happened and they said they would be in touch. ON 8/17/09 the insurance adjuster called me and I gave him directions and he got there at 2:10pm. He looked everything over with the member there. I showed him what I installed and where I worked and he talked to her also. We left at 3:12pm. I did not talk to the adjuster anytime before this other than give him instructions how to get there. Either on 8/27 or 8/28/09 I was installing a unit and the member called me on my cell phone half screaming “you are going to get sued. You broke this and you know it. You’re not going to get away with this”, she was so loud I tried to say something and all I could get in was I did not do anything to your poipe that broke and then she hung up. On 9/16/09 I received a report from the Penn Clam Service that they denied this claim. This is the last I heard anything about this until now. Bottom line: I gave her a super good deal with quality workmanship and products and something went wrong and she wants me to pay for it. (I don’t think so). There was nothing on my installation of this unit that could have caused this problem.
