Overall, the project did not go well. Mr Fulton never did produce a contract. I couldn't throw him out because he had my $4,000.00 and was getting work done. I had previously had Mr fulton install a light fixture in my kitchen. He was a bit sloppy in that, but ok. Then I had him come over and install 4 electrical lines, 1 of which was for a new water heater and 3 for extra lines for future use. Previously I had 2 other "future use" lines installed and had used one for a 220 line for an air condioner which now, with the 3 new ones, ment that I would have 4 extra lines for any future purchases that would require speial wireing. Mr. Fulton's work day begins no earlier than 10:00 and he works, sometimes, until 4:00. He began work on March 24th and by Wednesday, April 20th he had only 74 hours in and told me he wanted an advance. He had already received $4000.00 which is 2/3 of the total job, which conforms with Pennsylvania law (I'm told). At this point he wasn't getting the work done in an acceptable fashion and I wasn't about to give him more money. So I told him no, wire didn't cost that much. To which he replied that the $4,000 was for labor and material. I still told him no, that the final $2,000.00 would be paid on compltion of the job. The next morning he didn't show up until 11:00 and left at 2:45. A bit of explination for what happened next: [I have a fridge without a freezer, on purpose. My freezer is where I make my ice cubes. When we bought our house we had a new line put in for the freezer. Mr. Fulton was aware of the new line to the freezer and the breaker box was clearly marked. He had no reason to touch that line.] When Mr. Futon left, at 2:45 on Thursday, he had to walk past the breaker box, as always. He threw the switch to my freezer on his way out the door. Within 10 o 15 minues I was aware of what he had done because I needed ice cubes for my drink! Mr. Fulton did not come back until Monday! During the 3 days that Mr. Fulton was not here I took the time to check his work. Two rooms would reqire a new paint job, due to sloppy patch work he had done and another would require the removal of te patchwork, a backing installed, re-patch and hopefully I can match the paint in that room, as it was re-painted just a year earlier. MISSING: The 4 extra electrcal lines! There was nothing in the electrical box marked extra, and were it had said extra it had been rubbed out. On Monday, April 23rd, I asked Mr. Fulton about the missing lines. He said "They're stil down there". Again on Wednesday the 25th I questioned him. He then admitted he had used the "3" extra lines he had charged me o install. By Friday, the 27th he aditted he had sed all 4 extra lines. I told him he would have to leave me 4 extra lines bcaus I would need them in the future. After all, he had told me he was going to move to Virginia this fall. So when I called in a new electrician, next year, to hook up something new I'd look like a fool. Yes, Mr new electrician, there are 4 spae lines in the basement, just use one of those. Then the new electrician would come up and tell me there were no spare lines! Mr. Fulton kept insisting I did not need the 4 spare lines and finally said he'd replace them but I'd have to pay for them! (The final bill came to me as a T & M with no detail, not the bid he had given me. I paid him his final $2,000.00, per the bid.) It was not a good experience. When he informed me he was done, he had not finished the job. Later I found out he had another job to go to, so he just left mine, unfinished. Fixtures were missing, items I had specifically old him to leave were gone. Two recessed lights do not work. I tried to get ahold of Mr. Fulton but he did not return my calls. I called another electrician to see if they could fix the 2 lights and was told to throw the breaker to that line, as it was a fire hazard. He told me it would cost between 100 to 200 dollars to try to fix whatever Mr. Fulton had done. Because Mr. Fulton lied to me and refused to answer my calls I will not have him back in my house. The things he took and the painting and repairs I will have to make could be overlooked, but I cannot abide someone who looks me in the eye and outright lies to me.
Description of Work: Mr. Fulton quoted me 6,000.00 to re-wire my house & garage. The time frame was to be one month to complete the job. We went over everything that was to be done, making a detailed drawing, showing placement of all oulets and fixtures to be either re-wired, changed or new installations. Mr. Fulton instructed me to take blue painter's tape and mark the walls, in addition to the detailed plan. I hired him to do the work, based on the amount and the fact that I knew his wife. His wife is a wonderful, honest and reliable person. Because we had the drawing outlining what needed to be done and knowig his wife, I was willing to give him his down payment. Foolish me. The first day of work I asked him where the "contract" was. His reply was that he had forgotten it. He would bring it the next day.
